MOTOROLA MSF-5000 UHF CXB 75wt

Does anybody have an idea how much these units are bringing on the used
market. I have a unit that is in mint like condition and wanted to sell it to replace
it with a smaller rack mount unit due to space. It is currently up and operational
and yes in the ham band 441.650 ctcss 77.0

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Repeater Controllers

2004-12-25 Thread Mike Mullarkey

I have tried most of the controller on the market and you may find a unit to
program easer than another but you are forgetting one important thing. When
that easy controller decides to give you a problem and lock up or reset by
it self or even reset when the timeout timer gets used. Then all your
programming is all messed up. You get to take a drive to the hill or in a
lot of cases take a snow cat trip to the hill. $

I just went from an RLC2 controller to a CAT1000B controller and is much
easier to program. There is a windows software that you can purchase for
the controller, makes setting it up much easier. I had the RLC3 and found
that one to be very easy to work with, easier than the RLC2 is now. But
remember, each controller is going to have limits and will need to be
programmed. Even with the Cat, I had to ask for some advise and help

[Repeater-Builder] IFR 1500 manual

2004-12-25 Thread albemarle7

Hi and season greetings to all.question:
In need of an operating and/or service manual for an IFR 1500 service monitor.  If someone here would have one for sale, or would take one to Kinko's, Staples, or wherever and have it copied for me, I would greatly appreciate and be happy to pay for their trouble.  Normal search channels have been fruitless. Hint- Might be a way for someone who happens to have one make a few extra bucks by having their manual duplicated and offered for sale. (hoping this is legal).
Thank you,

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Repeater Controllers

2004-12-25 Thread Richard

I'm not sure why it would take you "hours" to load and download the info -
what do you mean by that? I program several RLC4s and an RLC3 and yes, there
is a learning curve, but if you sit down for an hour or so with the manual
it isn't really all that bad.

The files I use to program the controllers contain anywhere from 10-30
macros, plus all the timers, IDs, command prefix, and the other stuff I put
in it, and it only takes three or four minutes to transfer it to the
controller.

Personally, I think the RLC controllers are extremely versatile and fairly
easy to program once you get the hang of it.

If you want, I can provide you with more assistance and some examples of
macro files that I have written.

Most radios will require an audio signal into the mike
jack that is very loud, usually 10-20 dB above normal.
While introducing this tone, the clipper should be in
full clipping. At this point, the deviation control
should be set for maximum desired deviation (usually
plus or minus 5 KHz, or slightly less).

A very loud whistle can substitute for the tone, the
main thing is that you want to be able to see that the
deviation is limiting at some point. After the
deviation is properly set, the audio into the mike
jack can be set for proper audio. Anything lower than
the max deviation level should go through relatively
unchanged, only loud peaks should be clipped.

2004-12-25 Thread skipp025

9600..?

It would be an interesting project... I would imagine
the receiver might need serious modifications for
the higher speed. You'd have to see how the IF and
detection sections handle the higher baud rate.

Once you have the manuals, you can use some of
the paging functions to disable the pl.

I use "Speaking Clock" with Win 2000 pro without any problems. Set to

Version 2.01 is what I have in use here (current version is 2.5). I can
send you the zip of the older version if you want it (822k).

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Help: GE M2 PL decode dropout on voice peaks and IDA control shelf

2004-12-25 Thread Steve Bosshard \(NU5D\)

Merry Christmas Ralph and the List,

Sounds more like a repeater trouble than a subscriber unit trouble. The 200
Hz. Tone level is probably a little too light. Most mfg specs call for +/-
750 hz CG deviation and between 500 and 750 seems to work pretty well. Less
tone will probably chop with full modulation.

I would make sure the repeater receiver was properly aligned and make sure
the IF was centered. Distortion or compression might make the tones
difficult to decode. Power supplies and working voltages are a must.

Keep up posted, Santa,

Of course, this is an incorrect statement.

To answer Mathew's question: the coverage would depend greatly on your
terrian & foliage density (lots of trees?). However, my guess is that
a base station 20 miles away should be able to access your repeater
provided there isn't a hill directly in the way.

You might want to download "Radio Mobile" from

coverage.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Help: GE M2 PL decode dropout on voice peaks and IDA control shelf

2004-12-25 Thread Ralph Hogan

Thanks guys for all the comments.

Yes, the one ht I normally use on the bench may be a little hot on PL (er I
mean CG hihi) Dev and voice dev, but not way out of bounds. Kind of one of
the reasons I use that one, is it's on the edge as a user radio might be.

The point is, it's never done that with any other GE M2 on the bench before.
Thus my questioning of the hardware under test.

As for quality and standardization of radios, I agree. They are all over the
place audio wise. Sure I could crack open this particular HT and turn it
down to 200 Hz pl deviation and 4 KHz peak voice dev. I know if I put the
repeater up on the mtn site today, some of my users will talk it off too. It
would be hard to bench calibrate all the users radios out there. Again, I
just think there is something in the hardware I'm missing.

I did grab two other ht's as stated earlier and they created the same
problem. One HT was a moto saber btw, so hopefully they did their homework
correctly on PL injection into the transmitter audio chain. I dont remember
the exact particulars on the Saber, but I remember it does have a lower PL
dev and much lower audio dev. Still shuts the PL decoder down.

I looked at the audio levels going into the pl deck. Didn't look out of
whack.

I'll try changing the PL tone from 127.3 to something lower that I normally
use. That was a good suggestion and easy to try. Maybe I have one of those
voices for 127.3.

Someone mentioned supply voltages. The 12 VDC supply is the bench supply
right now. I adjusted the 10 VDC a long time back when first starting with
this 'new' repeater station. But, will recheck the 10 VDC, just in case.

Well its getting late and Santa is near (for the kids). Thanks again guys,
you given me some things to think about.

best holiday wishes,

Ralph W4XE

I was looking at a mobile micor pa and a compa station pa.
has anyone tried to take the 100w working pa out of a mobile and mount it on
the compa station heat sink?

[Repeater-Builder] Moto GM300 - Deviation Control vs Limiting

2004-12-25 Thread mbloom0947

The Moto GM300 has a software programmable deviation level with the
software setting from 0 to 55 on an arbitrary scale. I thought that
by lowering the deviation level I would see limiting in the deviation
level given the same microphone input. Instead I see the deviation
level responding to the setting but no peak limiting. Am I doing
something wrong? Or are my expectations wrong?

That will work. I have done it on UHF, I think VHF is
the same, too.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Iso Tee Help again

2004-12-25 Thread John J. Riddell

"Find Stuff in the carpet":

A lady here lost her contact lens in the carpet and looked for it for three
days.
I suggested she take a flash light and shine it horizontally just above the
carpet.
The missing items will stand right up in the light beam.

She phoned back in ten minutes to say "It worked"..

I use this method all the time to locate small parts that drop below my work
bench.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Help: GE M2 PL decode dropout on voice peaks and IDA control shelf

2004-12-25 Thread Joe

I looked at one of the PL decoder manuals and it says the input requirement
is 45mv RMS minimum. I would start here and see if the input is in spec.

The obvious place to look is the IF being out of alignment, but you changed
that board.

Did you check the 12VDC and 10VDC levels?
