[Repeater-Builder] EF Johnson CR1010 Help

2005-02-08 Thread kg4ogn

  Hello,
I am looking to convert an EF Johnson CR1010 for Amateur use.
Currently the repeater is set up in the UHF commerical range and I am
looking to put it on the 440 Ham range. I called EF Johnson and the
lady I talked with said I would have to change out some Caps but that
it should work. I was wondering if anyone has played with a CR1010
and if I could get some information from that person. If you have
played with a CR1010 I would love to hear from you, thanks.

The more logical source would be an amplifier not protected
by a circulator or isolator. The list would include other
repeater rfamplifiers at the same or adjacent site.

[Repeater-Builder] Power supply and Amplifier Information for MSF5000 requested

2005-02-08 Thread Ken

Hi, I would like to know if it is possible to swap a Analog UHF 450-
470 MSF5000's power supply to a digital unit?
I found a Power supply with battery backup option. However, it is
made for a analog unit. My unit is a digital station. Does it
require alot of work or is it just a swap out?

Second question,
I have a 110 watt amplifier for the analog station, can I also just
swap it out and use it on the digital station? are the exciter power
requirements the same?

Thanx for reading,

Ken

I fail to see any logic or value in this statement.

Yes, but that does not explain the varying levels of IMD over time. I know
of many on-site IMD problems that were DF'd down to passives such as those
listed above.

That's ok ... many people think they can get by at
busy repeater sites without circulators or isolators.
Repeater operation without the proper protection can
be sourced technical ignorance (the first time).

When the site owner or other involved parties have to
spend time tracing back IMD problems to transmitters
lacking proper protection, it really looks bad and
costs mucho $$

Preventable interference has been a reason for Hams
getting kicked out of Commercial, Private and Goverment
Radio Sites

I also know of many IMD problems traced back to preamps
and rf power amps. "One" possible reason for varying levels
of IMD is related to the actual operation of the non linear
section of the (potential) problematic amplifier stages.

Each problem is unique...

You are good to go here.

The power supply will be a direct fit. The PA's are virtually
identical electrically, but they did change the mounting brackets a
little so you may have a small issue to overcome there.

My opening statement was a bit misleading. It was made under the
assumption that the usual "proper protection" was already in place on all
TXs. Isolators & pass cavities were required equipment on every TX at my
primary site, at least until Pinnacle took over :( Now we do have some
hams who are "cutting corners"; every time an IMD problem pops up we check
those TXs first.

I bet it works just fine.

The transmitters are 4.75 or 5.25 Mhz away from the receivers and on
separate antennas?

I don't see why that would be a problem at all.

Well, aren't older hams dropping like flies? Sorry to be blunt, but I've
been reading of a lot of hams passing away lately. I keep on finding
folks I haven't talked with since some Dayton in the 80's or so, and
feeling sad about them Friends I'm not going to see again.

So why should this not be real? Don't forget, there is fraud
EVERYWHERE. The best fraud looks the most polished of all.
