Re: [Repeater-Builder] Repeater whit portable

2005-04-25 Thread Michael Shaffer

I'd go with a Harris, They are already full duplex
and come with duplexers. Change the freqs hook it up
to a controller and an antenna and your on the air.
Mine(450a) is rated rated at 20 watts continous, you
could always set the power down.

You will have a hard time beating a Micor receiver, however, I can
tell you that the Motorola Quantar makes an outstanding ham repeater.
Used ones are becoming affordable but give consideration to the
maintenance. These units are FRU based and exchange assemblies are
expensive.

The IF and demodulation is all done in DSP in the Quantar. The
squelch action is even better than the Micor chip. Interfacing is a
snap - assuming you have the wireline board which hosts the wildcard +
E&M I/O.

12 dB SINAD: 0.35 uV / 0.25 uV

I am pondering replacing a Micor (146 mhz} ham repeater with a more

excellent. Could some one dust off a Micor maintenance manual and get
the receiver specs for me. For that matter does anyone have experience

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Micor repeater power supply

2005-04-25 Thread Maire Company

there is a power supply that Motorola made for the Micor that will charge
the battery (12V) and them run the repeater when needed.

The last I knew a new one from Motorola was about $400. as I got one for a
job and still in stock. Also they may be got at a ham fest as I got a Micor
(working) with the power supply for $600.00 at one time.

If you can't find one let me know and I will see how many I have.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Kenwood TKR-850 repeater questions---Update

2005-04-25 Thread Paul Finch

Bob,

One thing I will tell you is that while I was replacing all the PA's on my
850's I left the final transistor spring "not soldered", it did not make
rated power. After I soldered the spring/shield or whatever it is (they
call it a spring) it went up to 40 watts so it's telling me it's actually
acting as more than just a spring.

I have to tell you, Kenwood acted very responsibly on the matter with the
speed and cost of these upgrades. I was impressed.

I'm going to go against the flow here & say no, don't retune. Instead,
check to see where the notches are exactly. If there is a significant
difference in isolation between where they are now & where they need to be,
go ahead & touch up the NOTCH adjustments only. The pass will be broad
enough such that 15 kHz won't be noticeable.

Checking performance is a lot easier that a full-blown retune. Could save
you a lot of unnecessary work.
