The Moxy was one of the cheapest Motorola radios ever made. Surely you
can trade them for a Micor.

The CXB series are RSS programmable, while the CLB
series require the suitcase programmer. Make yourself
a programming cable with the instructions on Batlabs;
said cable plugs into the front panel connector but
the other end does NOT go directly to the computer (it
requires a RIB).

According to my MSF5000 service manual (very large and
very heavy), the model you have is good for 146-172 TX
and RX, so it may or may not work that low.

It's worth a try, but my experience with relatively
recent Motorola equipment has proven to be so-so at
best when it comes to moving it very far outside the
design frequency limits, especially on stations. The
TX side *might* work OK since it's less than 1 MHz
away from the design limits, but the RX side being 1.5
MHz away might be pushing it.

It's also possible that the RSS won't even let you
enter an out of band frequency. If it doesn't, try
hitting Shift+Enter instead of just Enter. If that
doesn't work you're outta luck.

I have a UHF MSF-5000 with an ACC RC-85 controller
interfaced to it using the instructions on Batlabs.
Works like a champ and has dyn-o-mite audio. Pix of
the machine are at http://www.wa8pyr.net and click the
Ham Radio link on the left side of the screen.

Tubes! Real rigs glow in the dark, etc, etc

Well, the tubes in themselves don't discourage me, but if you said it
would be one spurious, drifty, cantankerous dog to operate, then that
would discourage me. What would you take to shoot me a copy of the
paperwork? Thanks a lot.

To the group,

This is my first post but have been a member for a while.

I managed to get a hold of couple of motorola moxys uhf I think.

Is it possiable to convert them to 440 and using both set them up as
a repeater. I know I would need some type of controller, this my first
venture into repeater setup so my question to the group.

Is this a worthwhile endeavor or will I be spinning my wheels?

Thanks in advance for your help.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: MSF5000 Questions

2005-07-16 Thread Rob Odell
MSF5000's with "CLB" in the model number are programmed via EEPROM
with the R-1801 suitcase programmer and some other stuff (the
suitcase only does some of the PROMS). Those with "CXB" in their
model number are programmed with the MSF RSS.

You can convert between the two by changing the controller and
making a couple of jumps to supply voltage to the newer controller.

To the earlier question, the C73CXB-7106BT is a RSS programmable,
VHF 90-110 watt unit. It will tune the 2m ham bands.

Yes, I most likely have the manual.
