Re: [Repeater-Builder] Help on Arcom RC-110
Hi Jim Sorry but I never saw an email from you (we are quite good at providing timely responses when we're aware of a question!). My apologies for your request not being answered up to this point. I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. Are you saying you're having problems with NetMedia's program (the BasicX program) or with being able to actually upload the firmware to the controller? Ken Ken, the program referenced in the manual to download (the basicx program) downloads all OK, but it has a checksum error (it is a zipped file). I don't think it is an error in the download, as I have transferred it several times on two different computers and even had a buddy transfer it with the same checksum error. So I have not been able to even attempt to upload the new firmware to the RC-110. I emailed you hoping you had an alternate place to download the basicx program, or had a copy there that I could download. I must be on your spam list, as I have emailed you several times over the last two years and only had one response last winter. My request for the above was last week. The 3.1 firmware will reboot the controller at random intervals when entering a command via TT, and will fail to turn on the audio gate to the repeater or remote base occasionally so just get a dead carrier. Has the Yahoo group been de-activated for the RC-110? I get no response from the moderator. Thanks 73 - Jim [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo! [Repeater-Builder] Re: MSR-2000 RX Problem
atms169 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Well my Motorola Mitrek radio's PA finally went. So I invested a heafty penny in the MSR-2000 VHF system. Nice, if you set it up right the unit will give you decades of reliable service. A couple of things I am having problems with, number one is I can only get a max of 20 Watts out. First check the range and size of the PA. Is it the 110 watt pa or the Canadian 40 watt PA? You'd figure the PA size and type out by looking up the Model numbers in the green trim book. If you're short on manuals I could probably tell you a lot about it if you sent me a picture of the pa circuit board. I have played with the PA and Exciter and can't get anymore than that. No playing with an MSR exciter. You must preset all the coil heights per the manual chart and start the initial alignment as if it were a new un-tuned unit. No sense being lazy when the right initial adjustments are not that hard. No fudge on the alignment, do it exactly as described in the manual. You can measure the exciter output into a proper termination to see if your continued problem is the PA or the Transmitter. Do you know about the power, voltage and current control pots in the pa control box? ... and do you know how they work? Don't just go in and start cranking pots until you understand what they do... and why. My second issue is with my older radio I was always having an RX problem. If it was a weak station it would sound like static or a lose ground on the antenna. Now that I have the same crystals (Elements) in the MSR-2000 I still have that same RX problem. Could there be something wrong with the RX Element? If so, is there a way to fix it or should I just order some new ones? Does the static happen with low level signals from a service monitor? You first need to isolate where the problem is comming from ... ie antenna system or the repeater. Then chase down why you're having the problem(s). So if anyone knows how to get a little more power out on my repeater and or fix the RX problem that would be most helpful. Thanks VA6AE Read what I mention above and make up a check list of what you have and have not done. Not a problem to help you chase down the gremlins and send them off to someone else's system. cheers, skipp Yahoo! Re: [Repeater-Builder] Digest Number 3764
Skipp, Once I get the pattern I can use RM to calculate all the other stuff I need to know so the height, terain and other info you request is irrelevant to my current task: plot the antenna pattern as installed on the tower. Last time I looked in the catalog Stationmaster type antennas are omni when mounted in free space. However when mounted offset on the side of a tower taint necessarily so. Hence my querry. So far Adam responded with a program that might help. I need to determine if it (the program) can take the tower surface area into account to let me factor in the rather oddball tower we're on. Then, having the apparent patterns, I can use RM to do LR plots and perhaps see why we're having unexpected dead spots and play cut and try on alternative tower locations. Unfortunately we can't top this tower as the tower owner is already using that spot. I want to calculate the apparent pattern and, in turn, load that data into RM and see just how bad the nulls are and what the effect would be of moving it up another 45', to the opposite side and 6' off that corner. Since we must have an insured pro do all climbing the try it and see approach isn't an option. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Simple PIC Repeater Controller
At 10:13 AM 5/12/2006, you wrote: I am in need of a simple controller, with which I can hook a repeater to a link system. With zero programming skills though this has mainly been a thought or a dream waiting to get done by someone :) 1 radio port and 1 link port; Both radio and link ports are fullduplex ports, and the linking between ports need to be three-phase, so that the radio port can be hooked to link both ways, or only to monitor link traffic or be disconnected from link. The requirement to have the link port operate full-duplex will limit your choices quite a bit. Controllers that use a single audio bus have to introduce some kind of limitation to deal with the case when a signal is being received from the repeater receiver and the link receiver at the same time. That is because you want the repeater transmitter to get a mix of both audio signals, while the link transmitter should get audio only from the repeater receiver. With a single audio bus, that isn't possible. Most people use simplex links and therefore don't run into that limitation. One simple controller that has a true audio crosspoint (which will handle the above scenario correctly) is the RLC-1 http://link-comm.com/controllers/rlc1.htm (disclaimer: I work for Link Communications). Controller needs to be steerable with DTMF from both radio and link ports, with a site prefixed commands through the link port only (to enable remote command from any of the sites) Are you looking for a site prefix similar to what the Palomar controllers use? If so, you can order the RLC-1 with a special EPROM that will work that way (we call it preaccess, because you have to enter the access code before the command). Our larger controllers have that option built into the standard firmware. Erik OH2LAK If you have any questions, please give me a call. Bob NO6B Bob, I downloaded the file you indicated above and the update for the RC-110 to ver 4.0 worked like a charm. Thanks a bunch for the correct upload file name. My manual for the RC-110 shows that I needed to download: http://www.basicx.com/beta/bx_setup_210b2.zip This file has the checksum error and is where I have been getting stuck for a year or so. If I had been given the correct file to download I would have been in good shape. Arcom never would respond with the information on which file I should use in place of the one they give in the 110 manual they supplied. I don't find an updated RC-110 manual at the Arcom site either, so I was stuck Thanks again to the group, and to you Bob for the specific info I needed. 73 - Jim W5ZIT Yahoo!
