scr from them. I was hoping to identify the manufacture and obtain a spec
sheet off the internet but so far no joy. I'll check with RF Parts for
that as well.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Quick GMRS repeater w/ Radius m10 and RICK

2006-05-27 Thread Dick
Jan:

You program the radios as conventional units. The RICK will do
the repeater chores. I have a couple of UHF GR300 rptrs. They
each use a GM300 mobile, a RICK and a power supply. Each radio
is programmed as a conventional and both have the rptr XMT and RCV
freqs programmed in. That way, I can swap the radios if one of them fails.
For instance, if the XMT radio's XMTR fails, I can move it to the RCV
task and vice versa.

It is not unusual for the part numbers and components
to change over the years in electronics. Many
noncritical parts will be bought in quantities and
when they are used up the next batch may be obsolete
or a beter price may be had for another part number.
All that is needed for the scr is for it to be rated
at the needed voltage and current and for the gate to
trigger about the same. There are probably 25 to 50
devices that will make that rating, the same with many
of the parts in the Astron.

1190 total radios with Part 95 listing. Neat listing. I asked for this
info 4 times on the GMRS list before and no one could or would mention
this. Thanks!

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Power Supply

2006-05-27 Thread Glenn Little WB4UIV
Google shows that Richardson Electronics has the SO565J SCR. Further Google
shows that this is a 50V 65Amp non sensitive gate SCR.

Any device that meets these specs would work. Astron possibly changed part
numbers with production runs as different parts were available and the cost
of these parts may have changed. I would use what ever is available at the
time of manufacture that was available and fit my budget. The different
part values may reflect these changes with production changes.

2006-05-27 Thread Kevin King

The technical requirements for a transmitter useable for GMRS service ARE:

1. FCC part 95 type acceptance.
2. Transmitter frequency stability of .00025%

To check if the equipment you want to use meets the technical specifications
for use as a GMRS repeater transmitter. Use the FCC ID number on the
transmitter equipment and search at this link:
https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/cf/eas/reports/GenericSearch.cfm?calledFr

The information on how to setup the Rick and the radios can be found on the
repeater builder web site, possibly the batwings site, And most assuredly
someone on this list that has set one up will respond with helpful
information. I have not used a Rick but have built and serviced may GMRS
repeaters. I wanted to make the original poster had the proper information
regarding the equipment he wanted to use.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Power Supply

2006-05-27 Thread Bob M.
My RS35M supply schematic says it's an MCR225 SCR. I
suspect that any SCR capable of dealing with the
current rating of the supply will work just fine.

My schematic was dated Jan 2000 as well, and it came
with a new supply that I bought around 2002.

I suspect that all the component differences are due
to product improvement (aka bug fixes in the original
design). In this regard, they seem to have unique
schematics for each model year (almost like Motorola).

RM-series is the rack mount version of the RS-series.
Add the letter "M" and you have meters. Change the
first letter from R to V and you have one with front
panel adjustment pots (V=variable). SS-series are
switching power supplies. I don't recall if they come
in rack-mount versions.

[Repeater-Builder] Using Mitrek Channel Element to Miniaturize Repeater Receiver

2006-05-27 Thread ve3iny
I am currently running a 6 meter repeater using a Midland 70-055C
transceiver as a receiver.

Anyone familiar with this transceiver will know that the receiver
requires a LO signal (approx 62 mhz) from the main VCO. The main VCO
is located on the transmitter board (which is fairly large board in
comparison to the receiver board).

I would like to eliminate the neccesity of have to use the transmitter
board altogether, and need to come up with a simple crystal oscillator
circuit to generate the 62 mhz LO.

It just so happens that a Motorola Mitrek VHF receive channel element
will work within the 62 mhz range. So I have decided simply to install
my LO crystal inside the element, and connect the output of the element
directly to the Midland receiver board (eliminating the need for the
transmitter board).

But I can't seem to make the Mitrek channel element to work "stand-
alone". I've gounded Pin 1, and applied 9 volts to Pin 3, and I've
brought Pin 4 low (ground)to enable the element. But with a scope
connected to Pin 2, I see no output ?

Can anyone shed light onto this for me ? Do I need to add a tank
circuit at Pin 2 ? Or do I have the pin-out all wrong ? Is there some
secret I'm missing ?

I've tried multiple elements (just in case I had a defective one) to no
avail.

Thanks in advance ...
