[Repeater-Builder] Re: First repeater?

2007-06-25 Thread George Sintchak
I remember reading an article about a repeater in the late 40's or
early 50's that was on a mountain top in Arizona. It was AM mode,
repeated from 28 MHz (I think) to 50 or 144 Mhz, or maybe it was
split site. To be legal, all was logged on a very slow tape recorder.
That's about all I can remember - do a search on that. There might be
an article on it in the QST archives.

Found once source:

But it doesn't say where the first modern (automatic retransmitting)
repeater was... or whose callsign.

2007-06-25 Thread mch
Thanks again, Ken. That is exactly what I was looking for.

I believe there are some other folks who lay claim to the 'father of
repeaters', too.

In all honesty, it looks like it happened in steps - with Art being the
first (perhaps) to put up the first fully automatic repeater. Even that
article quotes him as knowing of another system which was automatic but
manned.

The first amateur repeater in Canada was VE3RPT in 1965, which is still
on the air but now in its forth (soon to be fifth) incarnation. We got
a lot of help from the folks in the BARRA group in Buffalo NY, so they

Actually that is what I want to use it for, is a RPU link.

Also, I thought about using one for 12 meter FM, with reduced deviation of

There were some special built Mitreks in really odd non-standard us
bands/ranges not to mention one 25MHz made for the gov/military. And
of course the same chassis Motrek, which was a Mitreck with parts
pulled until it quit working... then put the last part back in. Truely
a no-frills Mitrek chassis.

low band (25-50 MHz). There's a list of model numbers

[Repeater-Builder] MSF5000 codeplug

2007-06-25 Thread kc8lts
I have a MSF 5000 900 MHz trunking repeater that I am converting to a
conventional repeater and I am in need of a conventional 900 MHz MSF
5000 codeplug to make this work properly. I have the repeater working
and tuned up right, it receives and transmits just fine, but does not
repeat the signal coming in. It's must be looking for the right
signals coming in and doesn't see them to key the station on it's own.
The other reason is that I can't change the options in the codeplug
to allow me to use PL or DPL tones, it wants to see the "connect
tones" for trunking, which is not what I want to use. So if someone
has a blank codeplug for a high power conventional MSF 5000 900 MHz
repeater I could use a copy. The model number for that codeplug would
be C85GFB7206AT. The trunking one I have now is a C85GFB7203AT.

Thanks, T.J. (KC8LTS)

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Looking for SpectraTAC items

2007-06-25 Thread Bob M.
Well, I purchased a set of standard Molex pins and
connectors, but the plastic connectors do NOT fit and
are slightly different design. I never got past that
point. If Mouser has them, that's obviously the place
to get them from. Motorola wants $37 for a line cord.
Ridiculous, unless it's made from 24k gold.
