[Repeater-Builder] portable antenna suggestions

2006-03-05 Thread CHRIS ELEYETTE

hey all,
I'm looking for suggestion on a gmrs
portable field antenna that can be used for field sar
operations. Everyone has thier gmrs license and the
repeater is approved for gmrs.So I'm thinking of
using two antennas instead of a duplexer. Any
thoughts?

thanks,

chris

Yeah, but they got a couple million of homeland
 security money for it.

I say the same thing about those stick on cellular
 antennas.
They work perfectly well for their intended
 function.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Low Band Repeaters

2004-09-20 Thread CHRIS ELEYETTE
here is a stupid question, Can public service
agencies still get license for low band repeaters?

It's a private party and the tower is only 300' on a
 pretty average
hill, not really what you'd call a hill top site by
 any stretch. I
don't know how long the license has been in effect,
 but yes, there are
still 330 watt licenses. We service two Sheriff
 Offices on high band
with those original GE Mastr's that were put in
 throughout the state
back in the early 70's. Also, have another customer
 on low band simplex
with a 330 Watt Micor. It's in my territory and
 runs along at 250 Watts
 (easier on the finals).

We just took a 330 Watt Low Band Repeater off
 the air and sold the
company trunking radios with AVL equipment.
 Repeater worked great
and probably had a 90 mile radius of 95%
 coverage here in Central
Texas. It took six trunking sites to cover
 the same territory on
UHF if that's any comparison of coverage.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] GMRS Repeater Info Wanted

2004-07-13 Thread CHRIS ELEYETTE
hey, I see where there is a fixed base repeater and
mobile repeater difference. What are the limits on
the mobile. If I have like a mobile repeater can I
loan to Emeregency Services Units for like a
search/resuce scene?

thanks

  Mathew,

Before you can put a GMRS repeater on the air, you
 must have a GMRS
license. You also need to read and understand the
 applicable FCC Rules
in Title 47 USC Part 95. The current edition of
 Part 95 is dated
  October 1, 2003.

A GMRS repeater should be FCC Type-Accepted for
 Part 95 operation, but
you can use a repeater that is Type-Accepted for
 Part 90. This
requirement rules out any repeaters built from
 parts. Some repeaters
that are relatively inexpensive include the Yaesu
 VXR-7000, the Kenwood
TKR-850, and the Motorola GR1225 or RKR1225. The
 important features to
have are a built-in ID-er and the capability to
 decode CTCSS or CDCSS.
You will quickly learn that a good antenna,
 duplexer, and feedline cost
  more than the repeater.

Also adding an aftermarket tone panel (like the
 Com-Spec TP-3200) is OK.

Although the Part 95 Rules limit GMRS power to 50
 watts, there are some
  high-powered pirate stations operated by
 unlicensed individuals who
ignore all of the rules. I suggest that you not
 seek advice from such
  people!

  73, Eric Lemmon WB6FLY (and GMRS KAF4211)

Just for the record, there probably still are some
 older 'grandfathered'
licenses for 100W, and I know for certain that
 there are a number of
businesses still legally licensed. They are not
 allowed to make any
major mods to their licenses, like freq, power,
 location, profile, etc.
However, they are probably somewhat rare. And yes,
 there's a LOT of
not-so-legit stuff on the air, too...
