Here is a decoder from Computer Automation- Not sure how good it is,
but I thought I would throw it out there.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Weather Radios

2004-06-07 Thread KC1RM
When I was playing with SAME weather radios a couple of years back, I
called the local NWS weather office and found out what time they were
going to conduct their test. I then set up a timer on a cassette recorder to
record the broadcast.

I guess you could use this as the audio source for a service monitor, but
what I did was just inject the audio into the weather radio at the volume
control. In my case I wasn't going to use the RF section of the weather
radio as it got clobbered by all the RF on the hill I was on. I think I used
a GE Phoenix as the receiver, and then coupled the audio to the weather
radio so I could use it's SAME detector. I just injected the audio where
I was going to inject the receive audio. It worked just fine.

I also think that NWS performs weekly tests of SAME transmissions on
Wednesdays between and 11-1PM. Check with NWS in your area and
you may not have to wait until the next storm.

interconect duplexer to repeater.
now i am building an vhf repeater, i need to make the jumper cables to
interconect duplexer to repeater,
the question is:
is rg142 cable good too in vhf systems?
any opinion apreciated!
thanks.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: 2 Delta S's as a UHF repeater

2004-05-19 Thread KC1RM
You can use an S or SX for the transmitter, but the receiver definitely needs
to be
the S. The helicals in the S make the difference. I think the S has about 2-3
MHz
of bandwidth on receive, while the SX has close to 20 MHz.

I have also used GE Phoenix S UHF radios for a repeater as well. Picked up a
couple
of narrowband units a while ago for $10 each. As longs as I keep the power
down,
seems to work pretty well.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Jim

I have done this on both 2 meters and 70cm with no problems. In fact, if you
set the radios up identically, you can 'flip' them if either a transmitter or
receiver
fails.

equipment? Planning on purchasing a service monitor and would
rather purchase something from a reputable shop instead of taking
a chance on Ebay.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: WTB 440 Mhz Receiver with COR

If you put a diode in the COR line with the cathode toward the tap point,
doesn't this raise the voltage?

I think the voltage on the anode would be 0.5 plus the diode drop-

2004-03-27 Thread KC1RM
FYI, this is not a project for the faint at heart-

I performed this mod on my Ranger pickup. The only way to gain access
to the sending unit was to remove the box and access the tank from the
top. The newer Fords use nylon gas line with somewhat delicate fittings.
If you break one of the fittings, it is not an easy task to replace.
