[Repeater-Builder] Re: GE MASTR Professional Equipment
To ALL; If you have never tuned one of these receivers up, you should get one and DO IT! Tweaking the helical front end is amazing! It's so intuitive and something that will be LOST forever in the digital age. They won't be around forever. I even have a VHF MastrPro mobile NEW IN THE BOX!! I scrapped lots of the tube transmitters and mobile power supplies,,, but I did KEEP the receivers!... [Repeater-Builder] Re: Motorola Maxtrac for cw beacon
I understand it that modulated FM is not acceptable in the Non-voice sub-band. And there are power limitations for beacons. WoW! Nicely done project! Nice pics too! I will program it into the Maratrac for the next band opening. How do you expect the wide temperature extremes to affect the duplexer tuning?? [Repeater-Builder] 10 meter Repeater bandplan, National Coordination, 100KHz splits etc
Since I instigated it, I thought I would start a new thread. There seems to be a lot of interest in this, but lets keep it calm and POSITIVE, and if a moderator wants to shut it down, fine. 1. I just remember how much fun it was when the band was open working numerous FM repeaters at the same time to make many contacts!! This was ruined by the repeaters that were running CARRIER squelch and had LONG hang times or remote bases with POOR (or no) receivers!!! 2. I would like to see more repeater pairs and wider splits, BUT I THINK WE NEED TO CLEAN UP THE CURRENT REPEATERS FIRST to prove it can work! 3. I think there needs to be National coordination and enforcement. As an OO, I would like to give some positive encouragement to those that need to clean up their repeaters! So there seem to be 2 "national coordinators"; http://www.arrl.org/nfcc/ http://www.thenfcc.org/ Do they care about 10m repeaters? Should I email ALL of them? Would OO cards stating "good engineering practice" help? ... or give up and enjoy the Magic Band!! ... Keith WE6R 51.76 (51.26 in) PL 114.8 encode AND decode!!

I believe the Maxtrac noise blanker is a pulse type vs one that is tuned to a nearby freq, but we can certainly disable it and give it a try (push and hold monitor button until 3 beeps). ...Keith --- In Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com, "Al Wolfe" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Keith, > Some of the local guys here had a similar problem and setup as you on > ten meters. [Repeater-Builder] Re: 10 meter desense help, split site, high noise floor.
Thanks, yes, the split is too close to do much! I recently had both sites equipment here to check it out, everything looks good and plays (individualy) here with no problems. With the transmitter turned off, weak signals can get in and sound great on the UHF link. I just learned that there is a CAR TYPE BATTERY CHARGER across a battery at the receive site. aAARRRGGHH!! I don't know why the noise appears only when the transmitter (miles away) comes up though, but the first order of business is to pull the plug on that thing and see what happens. (maybe it is playing havok with the Maxtac's noise blanker?) Why oh why did they pick 100KHz??? The 10m band is HUGE with no activity (even when the band is open, there should be plenty of room for a better repeater plan). [Repeater-Builder] 10 meter desense help, split site, high noise floor.
I need ideas to cure desense on a 10 meter repeater. Details; 1. 100KHz split, (29.66 out 29.56 in) 2. Maxtracs on both ends, UHF link 3. Several miles of separation 4. Sometimes it works OK with no desense, but usually when the tx comes up, a buzzing type of noise wipes out most signals, even ones that were full quieting before. 5. The buzzing sounds like powerline noise. 6. There is some kind of wireless node nearby. What other types of noise generators could be exagerated by the additon of the 10m transmitter? Is it possible to make a notch filter out of big hardline at 100KHz with acceptable insertion loss? Would a window filter (DCI type) help with that type of noise? ...Keith WE6R
[Repeater-Builder] Re: Receiver overload
I think your title says it, overload. Parelectronics makes a little 3 pole filter, is that the one you tried? You can tweak all 3 poles to 104.9 for about 50 db attnuation. http://www.parelectronics.com/vhf-fm.htm A shorted stub would be easy to try too, there are several designs. Since the FM freq is so far away, try putting a T in line and a half wave (at 104.9) length of coax (times the velocity factor) on the T. Start long and work your way along the coax from the end with a pin and stick it in and short the coax while watching the FM signal on the spec anyl. Find the best null, then cut and solder and check the insertion loss at your 900 freq. ... [Repeater-Builder] Re: Data Signal,Inc. CWID-70 Manual needed.
I was able to obtain a manual. Data Signal became Game Country, Inc. and they still have some old manuals left. Their address is; Game Country, Inc. 2403 Commerce Lane Albany, GA 31707 Here is the email I received from them; We did go by the name Data Signal quite a few years ago. We got out of that business when cell phones took off and eliminated about 80 % of our product line. Fortunately, we do still have some of the old product manuals available. We have a CWID 70 DC version that you can purchase for $10.00. It has all the information that you need. Schematics, theory, installation and so on. One thing you do need to know is that coding of the prom is no longer possible by us. If you need to change the code, then you will have to go elsewhere. To get the manual send a check along with your complete mailing address. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Have a nice day.
