[Repeater-Builder] Motorola GM300 vs SM120??

2008-07-06 Thread mbloom0947
I am running a UHF repeater using two Motorola GM300s and a RICK.
Would it be worthwhile changing to two Motorola SM120s? We operate it
at a broadcast site with lots of high RF fields. Is there a concensus
on which repeater, commercial or amateur has the best receiver?

Sincerely,
Michael Bloom W7RAT

[Repeater-Builder] Choosing Commercial UHF Repeater

2005-02-21 Thread mbloom0947

I suspect that many of the participants here have had experience
selecting UHF repeaters for high-RF applications such as at
broadcasting sites. Which would you buy and why? Yaesu/Vertex,
ICOM, Kenwood, or some Motorola type? At present I am using a pair
of Moto GM300s with a RICK controller.

[Repeater-Builder] Moto GM300 - Deviation Control vs Limiting

2004-12-25 Thread mbloom0947

The Moto GM300 has a software programmable deviation level with the
software setting from 0 to 55 on an arbitrary scale. I thought that
by lowering the deviation level I would see limiting in the deviation
level given the same microphone input. Instead I see the deviation
level responding to the setting but no peak limiting. Am I doing
something wrong? Or are my expectations wrong?

re[4]: [Repeater-Builder] HELP: 2 meter repeater intermod problem from pager tr

2004-12-22 Thread mbloom0947

Dear John,

Thank you for the helpful feedback. I can be a bit pig-headed at
times. I really wasn't sure exactly what deviation to set. I did
monitor other repeaters and they are as wide as I mentioned. Having
said that, I will adjust the deviation back to 5 KHz max if that is
best practice.

[Repeater-Builder] Motorola GM300 Power-up Question

2004-12-21 Thread mbloom0947

Subject: Motorola GM300 Model M34GMC29C3A UHF 16-channel Radio

The radio was powering on and off ok using front panel volume control-
switch. When I plugged a Motorola RIB into it for programming the
power blinked off and I can't turn it on. Any suggestions?

2004-12-21 Thread mbloom0947

John,

Since I am the guy running the IRLP node you refer to, I thought I
might take a moment to reply.

The equipment now consists solely of Motorola GM300's, not amateur
grade equipment. For the last six months or more both the 2m and
440 transmitters have had large cavity filters in place. I believe
you may still be thinking of the original experimental equipment used
for proof of concept. The 2m cavity is a Sinclair 10 diameter
unit. As for the deviation I have measured it with a Motorola Model
2600 service monitor at 6 KHz, about the same as other repeaters in
this area. The node can be heard 100 miles away in some directions
by mobiles and those same mobiles running 75 watts, about the same as
the node transmitter output, can be heard as well. As for the
frequency, I'm running a SIMPLEX node on a SIMPLEX frequency.

I just thought I'd bring you up to date and suggest that you check
your facts next time.

Sincerely,
Michael Bloom W7RAT

[Repeater-Builder] Operating Manual for Motorola R2200/R2400 Service Monitor

2004-12-15 Thread mbloom0947

I've been fortunate enough to obtain a Motorola R-2400 Service
Monitor (thanks Ebay!). It came with the Service Manual but no
Operating Manual. Does anyone have an operating manual that I can
buy or copy? Also, anyone in the Portland/Vancouver area who has
need to use a service monitor, I'd be willing to help out with this
one.
