If the isolator is driven far below it's rating, it may not go nonlinear. We once tested an EMR Corp. 220 MHz isolator being driven with ~90 watts. The output spectrum from our RFPA was no different with the isolator in line (no increase or decrease in harmonic content). If you have a power attenuator handy, it might be worth actually looking at the harmonic levels coming out of your isolator with a spectrum analyzer. You can't use a coupler for this test because it's frequency response will taint the measurement. Bob NO6B Yahoo! Groups Links Yahoo! [Repeater-Builder] SWR at Isolator-input
I'm trying to install a repeater and have encountered a puzzlement. I re-tuned a Telewave dual-isolator down from 452.xxx to 443.55 MHz for installation on a new GE M-II 100W UHF repeater. At the site, I connected the xmtr's coax cable to the the isolator's input (yes, it was the Input port). I connected the isolator's output to the duplexer's xmtr-side port. I used only RG-214 coax cable. I put a 10-watt load resistor. on the LOAD port nearest the transmitter and a 100W load on the LOAD position next/nearest to the isolator's output. Then I inserted a BIRD wattmeter between the Xmtr output coax and the isolator's INPUT port and keyed the transmitter, I read 110W fwd and 2W rev. OK! But after 45 seconds of continuous transmission, the reflected power had risen to 7.5 watts and was rising. I unkeyed the xmtr. I am puzzled. I expected the isolator to behave constantly: X watts fwd; and Y watts refl. This variability I'm seeing makes me think that I have a changing impedance inside the isolator . The 100 watt load was beginning to warm up in the 45 seconds duration of my test. I swept the duplexer with my IFR to see if the rcv/xmt ports were labeled wrong. Nothing unusual here . I put the GE's transmitter direct to the antenna through the wattmeter and got 110W fwd and 1.5 watts reflected What is going on with this isolator? Should I be concerned? and what do I do about it?. [Repeater-Builder] GE M2 UHF 40Watt PA section question
I am putting together a UHF repeater on 443.775 (+) and acquired a 40 watt (Intermediate) PA deck from an unknown source and started to visually check it out versus the schematic diagram. Now, the GE manual (LBI30201) identifies my pa deck as 19D321347G5 Rev N. This matches the yellow label on the IPA deck. So far so good. However, the G5 board is listed in the manual as 402-420 and also lists G9 for 420-450 MHz - the same part number except its a group 9 rather than a group 5 and a different part of the band. Hmmm. Will I get my 40 watts from this group 5 deck on 443.775?? On the same page of the manual, there is a components change table listed by frequency band (LL=406-450, L=450-470, M=470-494, H=494-512). Whoa there! the (G)roups are 406-420, and 420-450, but the components don't change between 406 and450?? I scanned the detailed parts list and found nothing that indicates a difference in parts between the 406-420 and 420-450 band. The only discrepancy that I found is that C257 is not installed on my PA deck and the components table says it should be there. I checked with my source and all of his 411 MHz PA decks (40 and 100 watt) do not have C257 installed. I'ts a bear to get at the spot on the PWB for C257. It's right above the black test socket J5. The big question is" What am I missing here? What makes UHF 40-watt G5 PAs different that G9's?
