[Repeater-Builder] Re: CommScope Heliax 1994
Hello Joe, I'll be back at the site and take a more direct look at the cable. Its smooth black jacket and the sheild is smooth alum., then a form insulator with a solid copper clad center conductor. Thanks for your reply, I'll udate this post after I return from the site. --- In Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com, Joe [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The outside dimension of 1/2 hardline is about 5/8, including the insulation. Is the cable smooth or does it have ripples on the surface? Is the outer conductor aluminum or copper? My first guess is that you have CATV (cable TV) hardline and the production number, or date of manufacture, for it was 1994. If this is true, the cable will probably be 75 ohm and not 50 ohm hardline. Joe Gary wrote: That was it my friend. I make an adapter for the CATV hardline out of the screw on sleeve from a standard PL-259 connector. The hardline center conductor is the same size as a PL-259 pin, and the inside diameter of the hardline shield fits the outside of the PL-259 sleeve. With a hose clamp gripping the outside of the hardline to the sleeve, it makes a usable connector. I insert a UHF coupler and tape the whole thing up and it is suitable to plug in a standard PL-259. I use a router bit in my Dremel Tool to remove the hardline dialectric so the PL-259 sleeve will fit up inside the hardline shield. Some of the inside of the shield gets removed by the router bit also, but this is a good thing as it does not fit unless some material is removed from inside the hardline shield. 73 - Jim W5ZIT --- On Sat, 11/1/08, Gary [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: Gary [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Re: CommScope Heliax 1994 To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com Date: Saturday, November 1, 2008, 11:47 AM Hello Joe, I'll be back at the site and take a more direct look at the cable.
