[Repeater-Builder] Re: Talking clock has failed on our RC-85 V5.2 FW.
Join the Yahoo ACC Controller Group (one of at least two). http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ACC/ Look in the group's files section for the clock reset secret password information. You'll need to reset your clock chip (if it still works) to the proper date time (a few decades subtracted from the date) and then enter in a reset password. It works, it's well known... If not, you can describe the problem with a post to the group and we'll tell you a similar answer back via our posts to the group. cheers, s. wa6mha_glen wa6...@... wrote: I've searched the forum and the internet for info on the talking clock option on our rc-85 w/ v 5.2 firmware but found nothing so far. Our rc-85 is still in use at 4000 ft so I'm collecting data before we visit the site. Our manual and upgrade data was not been kept up to date over the last 20+ years so I'm starting from scratch. The paperwork I do have shows an upgrade to v5.2 firmware but no date. It mentions 2 IC's were installed. One I'm sure was a new EPROM and the other mentions a battery backed up clock chip if I read it right. Is it possible the Y2K issue kicked in, or that the battery backup on the clock chip has failed? Everything I can find about the clock is how to add a RS talking Clock, not much about the onboard option? We will go to the site and document the current chipset on our rc-85 when time permits. It can be sent out for repairs but we don't have a spare controller so the machine would be down during that time, something we're trying to avoid. I did get the feeling that this may be a warning sign that the EPROM's may be failing and this is only the start. A newer replacement may be the way to go as a last resort! Thank you for any help you can give us. Are there any groups dedicated to ACC Controllers? Glen wa6mha

Thanks for the link Skip. I just joined. I thought I had searched the groups for ACC info but must have missed it. [Repeater-Builder] Re: Talking Clock
I use ECHOTIME/ECHOLINK AND I run software that updates my computer from NIST (WWV) every hour. The time is never more than a few milliseconds off. Simple. --- In Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com, Eric Lemmon [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Don, I have a software-based clock in a Pacific Research repeater controller that I finally had to disable because it couldn't keep time. A common problem with software clocks is that they gain or lose time depending upon the amount of activity. In my opinion, that lack of accuracy is unacceptable. One solution is to use the hourly 1400 Hz tone burst from WWV to reset a software clock every hour, so that any accumulated error is corrected before it becomes significant. That's one of my back-burner projects that may yet see the light of day! 73, Eric Lemmon WB6FLY KA9QJG wrote: Can anyone tell Me of A Software Talking Clock program , I had a old radio Shack one that I had modified yrs ago on the repeater and it went bad and it is no longer made. Or you can install IRLP and then add one of the speaking clock scripts available.
