Jerry, I've modified a couple by changing the connectors and had no 
problems. I'm traveling right now and will not be back home for another 
month. If you can wait, I can provide the correct part numbers for the 
connectors and a source of supply (not Motorola). I just don't have the 
info with me.

As an alternative you could use a Micor Squelch Gate Module 
by changing the end connector/plug.
