[Repeater-Builder] Woohoo! The rocks are IN! Completely Different System Part II

2006-01-27 Thread Paul Finch
Hello,

I just finished the first conversion to a repeater using the ICS controllers
I recently purchased. The repeater is now on 442.150 TX and the receiver is
447.150 with CTCSS of 110.9 Hz.

Interesting little board, it works well and is VERY cost effective. While
this board is obviously built for Motorola's and GE's it fit really well
into the Johnson 559. The only problem I had was getting the levels down
low enough where it would not overdrive the Johnson Microphone circuit. So
far I have had to make these mods to every controller I have installed in
the Johnson equipment. The Johnson Mic circuit takes very little audio to
drive it.

The mod consists of taking both the RX input and TX output audio amplifier
IC's out of circuit, they are in the same package. It's fairly easy mod to
do, just remove the IC and bend the correct leads out enough so they don't
make contact in the IC socket then jumper the board on the bottom so the
audio is passed through as a passive circuit.

The receive audio is taken off of the high side of the volume control which
is more than enough to drive the transmit microphone circuit. The only down
side is the output level is now a series control and does not have full
control of the transmitted audio but it does work well working the level
between the RX level pot and the TX level pot.

For around 40 bucks it's not a bad little controller!

Now on to the 220 repeater, GE 800 to 900 MHz mod and the 6 and 10 meter
repeaters. Hey, I don't smoke, drink or gamble, what else am I to do on
these warm winter nights? By the way, while doing the repeaters I am also
working on a 1976 Fiat to get it back on the road.

Paul
