Re: [Repeater-Builder] a little help
For the bux the hustler g-6 family has been doing pretty well, just make sure to sweep it before you mount it as there have been some really crazy uhf splits mixed up lately. Re: [Repeater-Builder] a little help
Not to mention a WHOLE LOT longer If you end up going with a fiberglass stick, you should seriously consider side mounting it with a top support. Look at www.repeater-builder.com, then click on the Antenna Systems Information page and read the article titled "Help!! I have a crackling noise in my repeater". In fact you just might want to read several of the articles on that page. Mike WA6ILQ At 09:22 AM 3/28/04 -0500, you wrote: >The G-7-220 is a fine omni for the price. Best Ham grade omni. Re: [Repeater-Builder] a little help
Donnie, I view "good" to mean commercial-grade. Reliable, high-performance antennas are available for the 220 band from RFS/Celwave, Decibel Products, and Sinclair. They're not cheap, and a good antenna will cost between 500 and 800 bucks. Depending upon your repeater location relative to the desired coverage area, it might be wise to use an offset dipole antenna instead of a vertical omnidirectional fiberglass antenna. Whichever antenna design you choose, consider using a top support to keep it from waving in the wind. 73, Eric Lemmon WB6FLY Donnie Q wrote: > I am putting a 220 machine on the air in Michigan... does anyone have any ideas of a good antenna...? Cook Towers is a great place to start. Large stock . They also discount to the Ham's. So make sure you tell them you are a Ham. There Toll FREE number is 877-992-2665 there e-mail is [EMAIL PROTECTED] Many of us on the list have used then and they speak Ham Radio. One of the owners is Kathy, AB2LF. She gives great prices. We have bought piles of stuff for the Metro-Comm. repeater system from them. Also way great to deal with and will not rush you off there toll free line like some. They are also in the QST in the classifieds. They have two adds this month. Good luck and 73, Russ, W3CH Trustee, W3PS repeater network. - Original Message - From: "W8RIF" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Sunday, March 28, 2004 6:13 AM Subject: Re: [Repeater-Builder] a little help > where do I find the Commercial antennas? that is the way I am kind of > leaning. not sure I am new to this so bear with me please. > > W8RIF > > > > > > > > > Yahoo! Re: [Repeater-Builder] a little help
The G-7-220 is a fine omni for the price. Best Ham grade omni. BUT if you install a DB-224 or an RFS PD-220 it will work a whole lot better. 73 Russ, W3CH - Original Message - From: "N6KYD" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Sunday, March 28, 2004 1:52 AM Subject: Re: [Repeater-Builder] a little help > I have used the Hustler G7-220 for many years in a high wind area and it has > held up very well. Two that we use on Metro-comm are the DB-224 or RFS (Celwave) PD-220 Both work very well. Re: [Repeater-Builder] a little help
I don't think the AFM-24DA is made anymore. That was the 220 four pole antenna made by Cushcraft. The G7-220 is still available for a little under $200. Some of the commercial antennas should still be available, too, since they make them for 220-222 MHz. No retuning should be needed. Joe M. Re: [Repeater-Builder] a little help
I have used the Hustler G7-220 for many years in a high wind area and it has held up very well. No snap crackle or pop through the repeater during wind. There is no ice or snow here in So. Cal. so others may want to comment on their experiences with this antenna in harsh environments. The Cuscraft 220 four pole is another good antenna. I don't know if they are still being manufactured. http://www.wb0w.com/hustler/g7220.htm http://www.wiscointl.com/hustler/amateur/g7220.htm http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/1752 Mike N6KYD www.docsradioden.com - Original Message - From: "Donnie Q" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Saturday, March 27, 2004 7:10 PM Subject: [Repeater-Builder] a little help > I am putting a 220 machine on the air in Michigan, all ready have > the pair. but my question is does anyone have any ideas of a good > antenna, or a web site were I can search. if so email me please. > > W8RIF > > > > > > > > Yahoo!
