They will provide services to support the physical and virtual servers needed to support software applications and application development at the NCI. CBIIT currently has more than 200 physical servers and runs a highly virtualized environment with more than 800 virtual computers. NCI currently supports primarily HP ProLiant rack mount and blade servers with a few Sun SPARC and x86 servers; however, the Linux Administrator will have a broad capability to support servers from multiple vendors.
