Re: mark-tubes
Hi Hilgenberg GmBh appears to be the major supplier of glass capillaries. There are some companies purchasing form Hilgenberg in great quantities (so to benefit of a light discount) and reselling them in 25 piece units...but at the end the original supplier is the same. Regarding properties, you can find absorption coefficients and softening temperatures of each of your mentioned glass in http://www.hilgenberg-gmbh.de/en/products/test-tubes/sample-tubes. Quartz tubes are more expensive and are generally used for high temperatures. Then at RT there is the possibility to use Kapton tubes but hey do not have funnels which is very convenient for filling. Please feedback to the community if you discover an alternative supplier. Re: Cyberstar hot air blowers
Hi Complaining about the cost of small French companies (or even large international companies :-) is not appropriate on the Rietveld list. in particular in this case since the air blower designed by the "small" french company can only be purchased through the 'big" company which got the license Dr. FAUTH Francois Experiments Division CELLS - ALBAhttp://www.cells.es Carretera BP 1413 Km 3.3 08290 Cerdanyola del Vallès, Barcelona (Spain) Phone/Fax +34 93 592 4325 / +34 93 592 4301 On 7/3/2015 11:17 AM, Alan Hewat wrote: I think Simon is simply asking for recommendations of hot air blowers. Re: Intensity issue with synchrotron data
Dear Marco Two possible origins to your problems 1- the data format of the input file your are using for your refinement does not allow counts more than 10^6, This is typically the case with GSAS input file format Here at ALBA, as you suggested, we divide all the intensities by factor 10 2- as previously suggested, you might have a problem of detection non linearity and/or saturation. But since you measured at SLS liklely using the MYTHEN detector able to accept extremely high count rates , I do not think this is the problem Francois Dr. FAUTH Francois Experiments Division CELLS - ALBAhttp://www.cells.es Carretera BP 1413 Km 3.3 08290 Cerdanyola del Vallès, Barcelona (Spain) Phone/Fax +34 93 592 4325 / +34 93 592 4301 On 1/15/2015 8:49 AM, Marco Taddei wrote: Dear Rietvelders, Yesterday I was dealing with the refinement of silicon collected with synchrotron radiation at the MS beamline at SLS. The intensity of many reflections exceeds 10^6 counts, in some cases even reaching almost 10^7 counts. I noticed that the peaks exceeding 10^6 counts were kind of truncated, with the consequence that the pattern looked quite different from what it was supposed to be. Since I always treated data from home diffractometers so far, I never came across such an issue. My idea was to just divide all of the intensities by 10, so as to preserve the relative intensities and the signal/background ratio, is this a possible solution to the issue? Or there are maybe some other ways to deal with it? Thanks in advance. Re: fit2d calibration
Dear John, Not really Rietveld related but well ;-) Since you used Silver Behenate, you have to create a "Calibration file"containing the d-spacing (in Agstroem) of the rings you will use for calibration. Assume you have collected the 3 first rings of Silver Behenate, you will create a file containing the three following lines, 58.380 29.190 19.40 Let's name this file AgBeh_1-3.cal Then when launching Fit2d, you choose first the "Powder Diffraction"menu, Load your file using the "Input" button, then go to "Calibrant" menu, Choose the "User Defined"option. There you select your file AgBeh_1-3.cal (check that the directory is properly given). At this stage, you will reach a menu where you give the pixel size of your detector, the wavelength, and starting values for the refined parameters (sample to detector distance, tilts angles), and the parameters you want to refined. Then you have to "click" some points on the first ring of your data (by first, I mean the ring corresponding to the fisrt d-spacing given in your Calibrant file) If everything was OK (not too bad starting values), you should get good refined values : generally sample to detector distance, beam center values and, if you have choosen this option - tilt values. This is these values which will be used to further process you SAXS data. Hope it helps. Do not hesistate to contact me dircetly if you need further help.
