[Rife-users] How to use Rife with Eclipse WTP

2006-09-29 Thread ying lcs
Hi,I am new to Rife. I would like to know how to use Rife with Eclipse WTP. My understanding is Rife needs a specified directory hierarchy. But that is different from WTP generated. So what is the best way to start Rife with Eclipse WTP.
Thank you.

rife does not need a specific directory hierarchy; the important thing
is that your web.xml file is setup to point to your participants
(http://blog.ox.cx/archives/169-RIFEs-Participants-Easier-than-you-think.html),
and maybe the engine classloader.

apart from that, it's the usual stuff you have to deal with, with an
apps classpath.

So what is the best way to start Rife with Eclipse WTP.

what has been easier for most people is to download the rife jumpstart
(check the downloads section http://rifers.org/downloads) which gives
you a structure (with web.xml setup) that runs out of the box. then
you can feel your way around until you are comofortable to use
whatever structure best suites you.

cheers,
Emml

Hi Yinglcs,

Emmanuel is totally right, just a minor clarification. RIFE looks
everything up through the classpath. The hierarchy you see in the
Jumpstart is just setup for clarity and will actually change for the
next release. The paths are then simply added to the application's
classpath. There are a few prefix paths that you can use to separate
out file types if you use one root classpath: sites, implementations,
elements, templates. RIFE will try to add these paths when it's
looking for a file and can't find it immediately in the classpath.

Hope this helps,

Geert

PS.: if your element java sources are in the classpath, RIFE is able
to auto compile and recompile your elements after a change, without
you having to restart the servlet container
