Re: [RDD] Feature Request: make the Scheduler codes mandatory, in some groups

2012-01-16 Thread Lorne Tyndale
Hi,

Using the scheduler codes as a filter is now possible in RDLogEdit (and
RDAirplay) as of Version 2.1.1.

When you select to add a new cart within RDLogEdit, you now have a
pull-down filter you can use to select a scheduler code. It works quite
well and is a very welcomed feature (Thanks Fred!)

iirc, the suggestion was to make this an option on setting up a drop
box or on setting up a group. Probably the group. So if a group was to
be forced to have a code, (or the droppbox) then you would need such a
file, if not, you would not. Does that work?

Re: [RDD] Will it ever be possible to voicetrack in RDAirPlay?

2012-01-16 Thread Marius Radiokæll Qtronix
Agreed! This would be a very useful feature indeed!

I still wish the logs were split into hours instead of days too.
This way rdairplay wouldn't have to reload the whole day's log but only
the loaded one (if the loaded one was the one being modified). Else, it
wouldn't have to do anything but load the next hour (modified or not). :)

Not really a must, but it'd be useful in my opinion. :)

Re: [RDD] Will it ever be possible to voicetrack in RDAirPlay?

2012-01-16 Thread ltyndale
Hi,

I could be incorrect, but I think part of the request is to be able to access
the voicetracking module/capability
directly from RDAirplay's log editor.

One commercial system that I work with (I won't mention which one) has this
ability - to voicetrack directly from the
log editor which is displayed in the on-air room while the on-air playout
engine keeps going. In fact it uses the same
log editor whether you're at the on-air location or somewhere else. You just
scroll down in the log, highlite / click
on the voicetrack entry you want to record, and hit the Record button. It'll
let you do your voicetrack. Since
voicetracking is a part of the log editor, and the same log editor is used for
both the on-air system and elsewhere, it
makes it very easy for someone to do both a live and a voicetracked shift at
the same time. I've seen jocks do a live
break, then while music plays scroll down in the log and record 2 - 3
voicetracks which are scheduled for later in the
day, then come back and do another live break without any need to switchfrom
one application to another - all within the
same log editor.

With Rivendell the closest you currently can get is to open up the log editor
alongside RDAirplay. This isn't
impossible, but does create an extra step and has the potential to cause
confusion.

I'm not sure what would be involved, but perhaps an idea to look at would be
adding a "Voicetrack" button into
RDAirplay's log editor which could call up the VT module. Just a thought.

My approach to voice-tracking a "live" show is to incoporate tracks into
the schedule with predictable cart numbers. The first two digits denote
the day of the week: 91 = Monday; 92 = Tuesday; 93 = Wednesday; etc. The
next two digits specify the hour of the day, and the last two digits are
the number of the track in each hour.

Thus, the sixth track in the 9 PM hour on Wednesday is cart number 932106.
The tracks are pre-inserted in all the daily logs; some may be skipped by
rdairplay if they're not used. But the log never has to be refreshed; if a
track is recorded or imported, it will play automatically where it is
called for in the log.

[RDD] Will it ever be possible to voicetrack in RDAirPlay?

2012-01-16 Thread Morten Krarup Nielsen
Hi.

Our morning-show is almost live - the hosts always makes the next couple of
speaks as voicetracks, so they have more time to find the latest show-prep. In
our current radio automation that is no problem, but I've played around with
Rivendell, and this looks more complicated when it comes to voicetracking a
"live" show. I can't make the hosts run the show in RDAirPlay while
voicetracking in log-edit, and then always refresh the log.

So my simple question is: Will it ever be possible to voicetrack in RDAirPlay?

Besides from this voicetracking issue, Rivendell looks promising.

Thank you!

Kind regards,

Morten Nielsen

You can create a scheduler code called "Unclassified" and make it the
default scheduler code for the new imported carts then you can use
Rdlibrary to select all the carts with the "Unclassified" scheduler code
and classify them.

Re: [RDD] Feature Request: make the Scheduler codes mandatory in some groups

2012-01-16 Thread sfijn
I do not want to create a filename.sc when I do a mass-import of songs. I
rather use RDLibrary to listen to the songs and classify it. So make it
optional, not mandatory.
A visual indication (color/marker) that a song does not have a schedule
code would make this easier.
On a side note: I would really like to be able to use the schedule-codes
in RDLogedit (as a filter).

[RDD] Clarify behaviour between NFS sharing and Apache2 service

2012-01-16 Thread Alessio Elmi
Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out how to setup properly two machines running
RDD 2.1.2 (taken from Ubuntu binaries).
We'd like to have:
A) Main computer: it is responsible to play the radio, store the
music... it has everything to run the complete radio station.
B) Service computer: it has a daily/weekly backup of A:/var/snd into
B:/backup/var/snd and mysql backup. It should be used to update music
(import music, set start/talk markers and so on).
Question is... Does computer B need to have write permission on
A:/var/snd (via NFS) or Apache service would be enough? And how Xport
service should set in Menage Host (localhost or MainComputer)?
If something is not clear I will explain in details what misses...
Thank you all in advance.

A cool feature is the ability to associate a value with a scheduler code
For example the code "energy" could have the values 1,2, or 3 (as in

1. have the code configurable per dropbox?
2. require the creation of a filename.sc to go in alongside of
filename.wav/mp3 in and dropbox set to import to groups with forced
scheduler codes. pullt the code from the matching filename.sc file?
3. ???
4. Profit.

So what happens for carts that are created automatically (e.g. via dropbox)
when this attribute is enabled? A default scheduler code?

Cheers!

Re: [RDD] Is this a bug? User can save a log even if not authorized

Not a bug (a user without the 'Create log' attribute is unable to do just
that), but arguably a useful feature. How about a separate 'Save log'
attribute?

Cheers!

Re: [RDD] Can Import Everything Except MP3

There are three libraries that RD uses for 'MPEG support'. Specifically:

Lame - MPEG Layer 3 (aka 'mp3') exports

TwoLame - MPEG Layer 2 (aka 'mp2') exports, as well as L2 capture on ALSA and
JACK. L2 captures on HPI setups use the onboard hardware codec

LibMad - MPEG Layer 2 and 3 imports, as well as L2 playout on ALSA and JACK.
L2 playouts on HPI setups use the onboard hardware codec

Just because RD has been built with MPEG support doesn't necessarily mean that
it will work at runtime -- the relevant libraries have to be available. When
caed(8) is started, it will list what libraries have been detected in the
syslog (LogInfo priority). Generally, that should be the first place to look
when having problems with getting MPEG to work.

Cheers!

Fixed in CVS-Head. Thanks!
