Re: [RDD] New Installation - Audio distorts after about 2 Seconds
Hi, I've had this happen on a number of occasions on all sorts of different hardware (I normally use MAudio but have used some motherboard sound cards too). Most reliably if I run Riv in a VM but usually rebooting fixes it. As for real work stations, I just assumed I'd messed something up, reformatted and reinstalled and it was fine. Its one of those things where its 15 minutes to flatten and reinstall so I never bothered to try and figure it out. Installation was no problem. Followed instructions from http://rivendell.tryphon.org/wiki/Debian-Ubuntu_packages. However, I seem to have a problem with initial testing. When playing the tone file that is included by default, the audio is fine for the first two seconds, then spikes into distortion for the remainder of the cut. Even the displayed levels jump. The result is a severely distorted tone. I tried downloading the three sample files from rivendell.org http://rivendell.org. Again, after importing them into the library, after about two seconds the audio level skyrockets. However, unlike the tone, the audio goes into digital distortion (white noise). For initial testing, I am playing audio out of the sound card on my laptop. Normally now a problem, but the behavior of Rivendell is something completely new. Any thoughts? [RDD] Log transition issue
Coming from a RCS Master Control background, its impossible to have that system auto load the wrong days log. The on air playout module will by design only automatically air a log for January 15 on January 15. You can manually force it to load a log for a non-current day, but these are opened in a special browse only' mode that will not automatically automate the log. In the rare event we have not had enough content in the last hour of the day, it will sit and wait, (emergency backup tape kicks in 15s later and sends us alarm alerts) and then RCS will load/execute the new days log at midnight, which will always be the correct log for that day. That has been the perfect behavior for us, and would be ideal RD behavior for us. Repeating part of a day, or worse still executing the wrong days log (with no silence alerts to tell us this was happening) would be a disaster. While ensuring sufficient content in a RD log running up to or past midnight may prevent the issue, I believe it is desirable that RD by design never fails to load a log at the end of the day and has optional protection against ever playing the wrong days log. Perhaps a simple RDAdmin option to auto restrict a log generated for day xx to day xx would achieve this? ___ Rivendell-dev mailing list Rivendell-dev@lists.rivendellaudio.org http://caspian.paravelsystems.com/mailman/listinfo/rivendell-dev
[RDD] Feature Request (Low Priority)
+1 Hi James. Perhaps a new RML or just by expanding RML PL! PL mach line! As an example, where line value can be; +5 [jumps 5 lines ahead of current position on log] title=End Live Sports [plays next event on log with a title filed match] cart=12345 [plays next event on log with a cart number field match] this would add welcome flexibility we could use. ___ Rivendell-dev mailing list Rivendell-dev@lists.rivendellaudio.org http://caspian.paravelsystems.com/mailman/listinfo/rivendell-dev
Re: [RDD] Log transition issue
It's extremely hard to do this with Rivendell, or any other system, short of force feeding a command to do so... I'm still trying to figure out what happened here, as it's not normal... I can force that change, but not without specific commands... [RDD] Voice Tracking
I have posed this question before and received a couple of responses but to no avail and I appreciate the responses I have received. I am trying to figure out the voice tracking. I get into the voice track screen and as I understand it I should be able to click the play button just down from the top of the screen and on the extreme left side and the cuts just above the button should play. And as I understand it, if I then select a position in the log and click Insert Track, the track is inserted and I should be able to record a track and see the VU meters function. Everything seems to work except when I click the play button to the left of the VU meter to listen I get no audio. When I click to record I get no VU meter or recording. There was a suggestion that the sound card needed to be setup. The sound works everywhere except in the voice tracking. I am using the system on the air at this time and all is working perfectly. I can record carts, re-record, carts, playback on any screen, except from the voice tracking dialog box. Does anyone have an idea what I am missing. I appreciate your help. Coming from a RCS Master Control background, its impossible to have that system auto load the wrong days log. The on air playout module will by design only automatically air a log for January 15 on January 15. Having also worked with RCS Master Control and Selector, I agree that this is one of the features of that system which works nicely and also allows for the appearance of having one big long log without having to load a new log each day at midnight. While I admit that I have not looked into its database structure to see how it does this, I suspect that it has a date field as a part of its database structure for storing logs. I'm not sure if this would be possible to do within Rivendell's current structure. ___ Rivendell-dev mailing list Rivendell-dev@lists.rivendellaudio.org http://caspian.paravelsystems.com/mailman/listinfo/rivendell-dev
