Re: [RDD] CentOS 7 to CentOS 8

2020-03-21 Thread Bob Reite
I just built a new Rivendell machine. Rather than deal with possible
dependency issues, I simply installed CentOS 7 on a virgin hard drive,
then installed the appliance from Paravel. CentOS is still available
and will remain supported until 30 June 2024.

Agreed. I have a client running a Dell. I got him back on the air by
putting in a standard ATX power supply with the DVD drive disconnected

Re: [RDD] RD Appliance - what's the latest?

2013-11-15 Thread Bob Reite
I tried the version 2.1.2 on a test machine and had problems getting it
to recognize my ASI6044 card. So I reverted to the Paravel 1.0.0
version, which worked perfectly with the ASI6044 card out of the box.

Another distribution to consider if you are going to try and "get by"
with the sound card built onto the motherboard is the Ubuntu 10.04 based
RRAbuntu (http://rrabuntu.sorceforge.net) This one came right up with a
test log installed. It would not work with the AudioScience card
without installing the drivers.

The Appliance offered on Paravel's site claims to be version 1.0.0 (not sure
how that correlates to the Rivendell version within). I know there are
third-party releases as well, but I don't have a grasp on what's what.

For my boxes, I've normally built Rivendell from source on top of whatever
version of SuSE was current. But this is for a prospective new user, so I want
to put them on the best possible (most hassle-free) path.

Re: [RDD] Scott Studios Wave Format

2011-11-27 Thread Bob Reite
One of my biggest gripes about Scott Studios is that it doesn't play MP3
files, they have to be converted into something else first. Maybe not a
big deal if it's just 60 sec spots, but one of the stations that I take
care of gets hour long programs as MP3 files that have to be converted
in TLC. I haven't found a command line utility yet for doing that.

Try creating a test file with rdlibrary and see if the SS-32 machine
will play it properly. If that works, I believe there are ways to
invoke rdlibrary from a command line or batch file.

Re: [RDD] Scott Studios Wave Format

2011-11-27 Thread Bob Reite
As I recall Scott Studios puts the metadata at the beginning of the
file. Cart Chunk may be placed at the end of the file.

If you already have SS-32, you should have the TLC utility for creating
audio files for the system. Use TLC to import audio into Scott Studios,
and then when you are ready to switch to Rivendell, use the rdimport
utility to migrate your audio files into Rivendell.

I took this approach when building a backup automation system for a
client. They aren't ready yet to part with their main SS-32 system, but
because of too frequent T-1 outages, they needed backup audio at the
transmitter site. The import worked well.

You can also try creating an audio file in rdlibrary, then see if your
SS-32 system will read it.

[RDD] Fallback or "Emergency" log for RDAirPlay in case of missing log?

2011-11-11 Thread Bob Reite
Is there any way to make RDAirPlay load and play a "default" or
"fallback" log in case the next days log is missing? As it stands now
the system simply quits if the log being chained to is missing.

Other automation systems such as Scott Studios let you define a
"default" log that gets loaded if it can't find the next daily log.
