Based on supporting similar Optiplexes: is there a chance that low power mode is set to off in the BIOS and/or Wake on LAN is set to on? Screenshot here: http://www.itninja.com/uploads/images/22659/yEx4RP.jpg?1363380277845 http://www.itninja.com/uploads/images/22659/EmtLX4.jpg?1363380296775 Check that there are no USB-specific settings in the BIOS, too. I doubt there are but while you're there… FWIW we're using Supermicro chassis/mainboard/PSU components (Intel Xeons) for our 7 Rivendell systems (soon to be 9). But our first test box was a recycled Optiplex 745 small-form-factor desktop, which shouldn't be too different from your 740 (guessing here based on the 745s, 755s, 760s, and 780s we have). Want to rackmount everything in a central place? Instead of KVM runs, try a Teradici PCoIP card from eVGA and a PCoIP thin-client box in the studio. We've done this and it rocks. No drivers needed unless you need a USB CD-ROM drive at the thin-client box (we have remote-start CD players in the chain via the audio router, so that was not needed for our setup). You might check the mainboard for bulging caps like someone else suggested -- might try running a Linux-based live CD of some other flavor of Linux to ensure it isn't your particular distro. -- Dan Willson | Senior Systems Analyst Office of Public Relations and Marketing WBHM FM 90.3: Your NPR News Station UAB | The University of Alabama at Birmingham AB 1320 | 1720 2ND AVE S | Birmingham, AL 35294 P: 205.975.2825 | E: pony...@uab.edumailto:pony...@uab.edu uab.eduhttp://www.uab.edu/ Knowledge that will change your world On 04/04/14 16:58, Larry wrote: Larry larry@... writes: I have searched the archives and no one else has posted this problem that I can find. I have installed this on a Dell Optiplex 740 dual core 64 bit processor, 2GB Ram, 1TB hard drive, ALSA compatible M-Audio Delta 44 sound card and USB mouse and keyboard. After the mouse freezes the USB keyboard will still work using the up/down and F keys but the mouse stops no matter what USB port I use. Appreciate any help. This Dell Optiplex 740 has been running Windows XP reliably with the same mouse and keyboard since 2009. I have tried 2 different mice and they are USB and it is not the mouse. I have figured out the problem is all the USB ports go dead when this happens. When the mouse the stops, the keyboard works for a while but If I unplug keyboard and plug it back in it will no longer work at all. Nothing works in any of the USB ports after the mouse stops. I have tried re-installing the appliance, removing the sound card, removing memory one stick at a time and the video card and the USB ports will stop working. I have downgraded the BIOS to 4 former versions and that makes no difference. There must be something in this Dell chipset that is conflicting with CentOS. Nothing shows up in dmesg or the /var/log/messages file. My next step will be downgrading the the version 1 appliance but I don't have high hopes. The master output from localhost would contain mix of line and mic but the darkice jackpatch is capture device only NOT the master mixed output according to jack patch setup. To make matters worse when I stop any audio connections, and return to see alsa mixer, all are muted suddenly except mic audio and line AND automute is set to OFF. doesn't make sense logically from what I understand of the info re jack and alsa online and in RD wiki/lists; maybe I have got it wrong somehow Possibly changing to another linux box with multiple sound cards might help system in the patch window shows capture 1 2 which are configurable under alsamixer to beith either one of two mics or else line in. the monitor 1-6 I assume are the surround sound outputs with 1 2 being front 2ch stereo; does this mean that there has to be speakers connected to these jacks on the pc in order to here anything on playbacks 3-6 in jack patchbay? Re: [RDD] ALSA JACK Darkice/Icecast
We couldn't ever get the version of Darkice in the Ubuntu repositories to work. We moved Darkice to a Debian system using the Deb-Multimedia repository. You might want to download/compile the latest version from the project site or find a third-party Ubuntu repo with a newer version. Latest is 1.2. Hope that helps. Re: [RDD] CD ripping
Greetings from up the road at WBHM! This helped me the other day when I was in a similar situation with OSXS and Linux: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NFS_Troubleshooting Are you using no_root_squash in /etc/exports and/or --manage-gids in /etc/conf.d/nfs-server.conf? You mentioned locking problems… have you set the NEED_STATD value in /etc/conf.d/nfs-common.conf to YES? Also, you said Debian Wheezy (7) is the NFS Client… What's your NFS server's distribution? We recently had to migrate an older Ubuntu LTS server to Debian 7 due to incompatibilities between the two NFS versions, but YMMV. -- Dan Willson | Senior Systems Analyst Office of Public Relations and Marketing WBHM FM 90.3: Your NPR News Station UAB | The University of Alabama at Birmingham AB 1320 | 1720 2ND AVE S | Birmingham, AL 35294 P: 205.975.2825 | E: pony...@uab.edumailto:pony...@uab.edu uab.eduhttp://www.uab.edu/ Knowledge that will change your world From: Tim Camp t...@wnsp.commailto:t...@wnsp.com Date: Thursday, August 1, 2013 3:13 PM To: User discussion about the Rivendell Radio Automation System rivendell-dev@lists.rivendellaudio.orgmailto:rivendell-dev@lists.rivendellaudio.org Subject: Re: [RDD] CD ripping Greetings, Ok, I am confused here.
