Looks like a nice idea. Will we server software developers have to account for this if distribution vendors adopt it? 


The software developers can implement socket activation if they like to support it. But they don't have to.

 Irrespective of what systemd wants, that looks like a pretty good checklist
of things a program ought to be doing when running as a daemon.  I'll make
a note of it and run through the list when I'm done squashing this ONE LAST
BUG that's been holding up the 8.02 release. 
  
 (I did make a lot of progress on it and we're almost there!!)
