[Rosegarden-user] [Fwd: Re: How long have you been using Rosegarden?]

Since Studio to Go 1.5 at least, maybe a bit longer, which is close to the
very beginning. I mostly use it to create MIDI inputs to legacy analog
synthesizers, some standalone (now classic) digital/analog hybrid
synthesizers, and, of course, quite a range of Linux soft synthesizers.

I use the recording feature to record one track at a time. Mixing and
effects I do in Audacity. At least that is the usual work flow.

Plenty examples from over the years can be found at:

https://www.hydrophones.com/public

note that

https://www.hydrophones.com/public/Sydney-2019-Climate-Crises-Protest-h264-7p1aac.mp4

is in full 7.1 surround sound.

Most of the soundtracks on the:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCH44AXOYIeHxy1RStSsGl4A

and on

http://www.finevenuemusic.com/

also used Rosegarden in their creation.

I've been "using" it for something like 10 years. Maybe a little more
or less. But my use has been *very* sporadic. I haven't "upgraded"
since ... let's see, looks like 13.06. Gee, I think that's about when I
got my current desktop.

The I, IV, V chords? Those cover every note in the scale.

How do you define "the standard chords" for a key? The obvious thing that
occurs to me would be the seven triads that can be made with the scale
degrees (three major, three minor, and one diminished); but the dominant
seventh chord is not on that list and is probably more commonly-used than
the diminished triad.

It must have been the fourth quarter of 2001, so I'm coming up on 20 years.

Maybe 7 years, I took up music as a way to
forestall brain-rot inevitable with advancing
age, guitar more specifically, and I get midi
files into RG and then work over completely to
make my own backing tracks. Enjoy it immensely!

[Rosegarden-user] Canon like midis?

2020-11-24 Thread krsgrdn

hello gang,

I'm setting out to make some training videos
and need midi files of 'otherwise survivable'
songs of a particular nature: ones that use
all of but only the standard chords for the
key in question. I would then transpose a few
of these into every key offering a visual
tracking scroll of the chords and arpeggios
as the video rolls along. People learning
either rhythm or jamming lead would find this
useful (begining with myself!). Drums, a good
bass, clear chords and some lead or arpeggiated
chord tracks would be useful.

Slow rock/ballad is probably best because it
can be tempoed up or down. So far I have found
Pachelbel's Canon in D ...

  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QTCdA9Waj0
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38J8eQB0Pzw

... it uses all but two of the chords which I could
probably sneak into it here and there for the
learning exprerience.

If you know of any other similar songs, especially
with midi links, I'd appreciate very much.

TIA

About the same here. I also use the audio features when collaborating with
people who send audio tracks.
Initially I used to to control hardware synths, then included Qsynth and
hydrogen and in 2007 added ZynAddSubFX (2.2.1), moving on to Yoshimi.
These days it mostly just for Yoshimi :)

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.

[Rosegarden-user] How long have you been using Rosegarden?

2020-11-24 Thread Patrick May

Hello,

How long have you all been using Rosegarden?

Myself, I've been using Rosegarden 15 years. Oh god yeahh. I've got 1594
project files in my ~/rosegarden directory that I created in that time.

I use Rosegarden only as a MIDI sequencer for controlling synths. I've
never used the audio features.
