I can confirm this problem on a pretty recent version compiled from
SVN if the audio file has a *different sample rate* compared to the
current jack session. Indeed rosegarden seems to fail the sample rate
conversion.

This seems to have been reported here:
https://sourceforge.net/p/rosegarden/bugs/1494/

On the other hand importing a file with same samplerate as the jack
session works flawlessly.

As a work-around you could either try resampling externally your audio
file to match the samplerate you use with rosegarden, or vice-versa
match the jack samplerate to the desired wave file.

I tried making sure the sample rates match, but unfortunately it is
still giving the error.

If I understand correctly you connect both your Korg keyboard and a
microphone to your Scarlett? Is the interface a 2i2?
In that case you would maybe connect the keyboard to input 2 and the
microphone to input 1.
One important thing to remember, if that's your set-up, is that on the
2i2 those are *mono* inputs.. so you're going to have to connect
'capture_1' as jack most probably calls it (your input 1 on the
Scarlett).

Yep, it's a 2i2, and this worked. I had the keyboard on in 1 L and the
mic on in 2 R. I switched the mic to in 2 L, and it worked exactly as I
want it to.

Thanks for the tip!

[Rosegarden-user] Recording Audio from a Mic

2017-09-28 Thread John A

Hi all,

What I am aiming at is to be able to listen to the midi tracks being
played through the korg in the headphones while recording vocal audio
tracks through the microphone, but I am having trouble.

I am trying to record audio from a microphone into a track in Rosegarden
15.12. I have the track set to audio, and I have the instrument
parameters set to 'in 1' and out to master. The input meter in the
instrument parameters shows that signal from the mic is coming in. When

output of the other tracks, and not the vocal from the mic. These are
midi tracks played through a korg keyboard. The keyboard and the mic are
coming through the same interface, a scarlet focusrite.

It seemed to me that the 'recording filters' under 'track parameters'
might be the place this should be fixed, but both 'device' and 'channel'
are grayed out. I'm not sure what to try. Help would be greatly
appreciated!

Thanks,

I fixed it. I forgot to write the proper global setting in the Korg to
use regular programs instead of GM.

I tried this, but nothing happened. I did fix this problem as well
though; somehow, I managed to clear the 'sends its data through' setting
in the 'manage midi devices,' so the korg was sending the data to
nowhere. All the levels in the MIDI mixer were zeroed out to; easy
enough to change, but I am not sure how I did this in the first place.
Either way, I am back in business.

Thanks for your help!

[Rosegarden-user] MIDI settings messed up after restart

2016-11-25 Thread John A
Hi all,

I had previously asked the list for help with getting Rosegarden to
recognize the program names on my old Korg triton studio. I was able to
make all this work, but it is doing surprising things after a restart. I
was able to set up the Korg Triton as a MIDI device, and save it in the
default studio. From there, I could change programs on RG and the Korg
would just do as it was told; I didn't have to mess with the Korg at
all, to change programs or anything. I was able to see and use the korg
as a MIDI device in any new file. After the restart, when I try to play
the same file, the programs as listed in the 'instrument parameters' box
do not match what they originally were, and the programs on the korg are
seemingly random general midi instruments. When I change the programs in
'instrument parameters' to the right ones, the programs on the Korg
either don't change, or they change back to the GM instruments almost
immediately.

In addition, when I open files made previous to my addition of the
Triton as a MIDI device, it is not available as a MIDI device. It seemed
like I might have to to do Studio -> import default studio, but after
this not only does the triton still not show up as a MIDI device, all
sound is muted, even though the meters are still jumping.

I have messed around with this, but I have no idea what the problem is.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

John

This worked. Thank you!

The bizarre drum doubling seems to have gone also; I'm not sure what I
did differently, but after a restart of RG and the Korg it's gone. I
could have sworn I tried this before, but either way it's no longer an
issue.

Thanks again!

I managed to get the following instructions to work, and have
successfully set up the Korg Triton as a MIDI device. I can now select
the KT programs directly from within RG, and it all works great, except
for two problems.

1.) The device doesn't save. I have to set it up again every time I open
RG, unless I open a particular file I have saved with this device. Is
there any way to make this device available be default for all new files?

2.) Drum programs have this weird annoying doubling. Ted Felix suggested

following article:
http://www.rosegardenmusic.com/wiki/doc:using_thru_routing. I looked
through this, and tweaked settings both on the Korg and in RG, and I
can't seem to fix it. It happens with local control on and with it off,
and only on drum programs. Every other program works fine. This problem
makes no sense to me whatsoever, and I am totally stumped on what to
even try; I can't find anything that all these programs have in common,
other than that they are drum programs. Any ideas on this?

Thanks in advance!

[Rosegarden-user] Basic Midi Set up

2016-10-25 Thread John A
Hi all,

I am a new Rosegarden user, trying out how to sync RG with my Korg
Triton. I have existing sequences in the Korg, that I would like to
bounce over to RG. I have managed to get the data to record from the
Korg into RG, but still not in sync, and I get frequent unexpected
occurrences; specifically, I have trouble with unexpected program
changes and notes sticking or feeding back.

From reading the handbook, it seems that setting each channel to
'Receive External' should result in RG just sending the MIDI data to the
programs however they might be arranged on the keyboard, but I still get
unexpected program changes. 'Receive external will even uncheck itself
almost immediately after I check it.

I looked into setting the exact bank and program numbers for each
channel, but RG doesn't "see" the korg, it only "sees" my Scarlett 2i4
"general midi device." I tried to set it up through "Manage MIDI Banks
and Programs," and imported existing bank settings for the Triton
Extreme. (This was the closest I could find to my keyboard) I thought I
could at least set the right bank and program numbers, even if the names
didn't match. This didn't seem to work at all, and now each channel is
just playing whatever program each channel on the Korg is set to; this
is what I wanted it to do initially, but when I try to use it that way I
get the aforementioned surprises.

I'm not sure what to do about the issue. I would greatly appreciate any
help in this problem!

Re: [Rosegarden-user] Drag notes vertically without changing timing

In matrix editor, select the note, or several notes, whose pitch you
want to change. Then just use the keyboard up arrow or down arrow to
shift the pitch up or down. Same method works in the notation editor.

Or have I missed something here ?

horizontally to correct timing without modifying their pitch. But I
can't do the opposite, dragging vertically to change pitch when I have
pressed a wrong key without changing its initial time (except if I am
extremely accurate with the mouse). With other software (MIDI
sequencers, Image edition...) one can usually do this by pressing
 Shift while dragging.
It seems that dragging vertically in the notation editor respects
the initial time of notes. However, what about the Matrix editor?
I searched this list and the manual before asking, but maybe it is
already written somewhere. If so, please point me in the right direction.
 Thanks.

Yes, as the OP stated and D. Michael McIntyre confirmed, that is the way
it's supposed to work, at least if jackd is installed. Some would prefer
this didn't happen and need to use tricks to achieve this. Personally I
like it, but find it shut down when RG does. Some don't have this
problem For others it seems this is happening already. I'm using Debian
 Testing.

 I've lost track - is this JACK1 or JACK2 being used? I have JACK2.

I have jack2 also.

To clarify the garbled mess I wrote above, what I should have said was
I find jackd _doesn't_ shut down when RG does. Some don't have this
problem. For those who use jack all the time it doesn't matter.

IMHO, whatever the pros and cons of using jack for everything, it would
be good if the -T option to jack was behaving as expected, i.e. jack
should shut down once no clients remain.

However it turns out that this issue isn't restricted to RG: qsynth also
leaves jack running after exiting on my system.

My ~.jackdrc has:

/usr/bin/jackd -dalsa -dhw:0 -r44100 -p256 -n4

What I see in my task manager after running RG and/or qsynth is:

jackd -T -ndefault -dalsa -dhw:0 -r44100 -p256 -n4

Notice the extra -T -ndefault in front of the option string. Any jack
experts out there able to cast some light on this?

I would like to thank all you respondents who tried to help me..I have Jack,

together to produce any sound.
How to plug in any of these pieces?
The info message box in rosegarden says visit
Edit-Preferences-Behaviour-Graphics performance. There is no obvious way
to do this !
The Union interface of Ubuntu 12.04 does not lend itself to do things as one
would do in a KDE environment.
I wonder if linux is getting so smart, that it tends to outsmart itself with
the increased complexity. Michael McIntyre Tutorial is a great write up, but is
not geared to modern hardware. It is based on KDE
and I am lost how to apply it to my Union interface.

On the other side, there are not that many (native) softsynths for Linux,

[Rosegarden-user] Linked-copy segments don't work with lyrics in lilypond

2012-04-15 Thread John O'Hagan
Hi,

Recently returning to Rosegarden after a couple of years, I'm very impressed
with 11.11.42 (Debian testing). Many thanks to the developers.

One outstanding improvement is the linked-copy feature, and its ability to
create repeats with alternate endings in the score.

But it has one little problem I haven't seen mentioned yet: if linked segments
contain lyrics, the lilypond print only shows a single copy: no repeats, no
endings or other segments, even if they are selected for printing. With chords
and other text, linked copies print fine.

Should I report a bug?

Regards,

John O'Hagan

[Rosegarden-user] Lilypond export broken?

2012-03-31 Thread John Galbraith
I cannot export to lilypond with version 11.11.11. The resulting file,
instead of having any staves, says

\score {
% (All staffs were muted.)

  % notes

My staves are definitely not muted, and I get this even if I export
selected tracks or all tracks. This used to work fine, and I am
sure this is just an easy bug that must have crept in.

I've had trouble, over the years, with older Rosegarden files not
loading into new versions correctly. Have any changes to the format
occurred recently? This file is definitely an RG version or two old...
