 Needs
  * adrianr:   IP address

Right now the mirrorlist code runs on 129.143.116.10

  * thias: DNS update

We should be able to change the DNS entry of mirrors.rpmfusion.org very
fast in case the mirrorlist server is not available. The mirrorlist code
depends on two dynamically generated files which can be easiy also copied
to another host. In case my machine goes down we could change the DNS
entry and it could then point to the backup mirrorlist machine.

I'll look into fixing iscsitarget.

As for qc-usb that will require quite some work to get to work with 2.6.27. I
vote for dropping it, as I'm working on rewriting it as a gspca subdriver. I
have fedora kernel package commit rights so if we get any complaints about this
one lacking I'll drop the new gspca subdriver into the Fedora kernel package. I
can even try to get it in the F-10 kernel, although I probably won't due to
lack of time.

k, so how important do we consider sl? And how fast can the review be

Or, IOW: Is the consensus then to not import the package to RPM
Fusion, even if that means that users then have no update/install

I cannot see any situation where sl could be seen as a critical package

+1

- get the mirror manager that adrianr put in place (see
http://lists.rpmfusion.org/pipermail/rpmfusion-developers/2008-October/001393.html

listed as mirrors.rpmfusion.org in DNS;

Needs
 * adrianr: IP address
 * thias: DNS update

Afterwards update rpmfusion-release packages accordingly.
As we have old style mirrorlists in place on download1.rpmfusion.org right now,
and as this needs Thias, who seems to have dropped of the radar, I think this
is a SHOULD

A strong SHOULD IMHO. Would be really nice to get this in place. And
it would be really good to have at least two different people that are
able to update the DNS. But I suppose that's not that easy to realize?

 [...]
- start importing and building the packages from freshrpms; I can do
that, but I want to get the ACK from thias first; especially as
http://rpmfusion.org/InitialPackageMerge likely is not fully up to date
Having a list of packages that are ready for importing would help things
a lot
First of all for moving livna (and dribble) user over, which is our first big
step I think, this is a SHOULD FIX.

I think it would be good to have freshrpms packages not in livna/dribble in
rpmfusion no matter what, so I think it would be good to start working on this
as time permits without waiting for input from Thias. If you encounter any non
trivial buildfailures let me know and I'll gladly help.

I'll try to take a closer look; but I feel not that well with this plan
-- even during imports from livna there were a few odd things. Most of
them I could deal with on my own because I knew livna quite well, which
is not the case for freshrpms...

- someone should run dep checks (e.g. for F8, F9 rawhide; once with only
free and once with both free and nonfree enabled); I suspect that some
problems will be found that way

This has just been done I believe,

Yeah, thx again for your help Michael!

MUST FIX

Most of them are not that important or rare corner-cases; I think I
commented on all the relevant ones and CCed the maintainers in those mails.

- check that the upgrade path from Livna - RPM Fusion is sane for each
package in each of the supported Fedora releases (I did a rough check on
F9; looks good, but there are some packages still missing; maybe we can
ignore those for now, as some of them are broken in livna, so it's not
much of a difference)
AFAIK we have (used to have?) some automated scripts for this in Fedora, maybe
we can use those ?

Setting those up just for the dribble/freshrpms/livna transition to RPM
Fusion is afaics not worth the trouble

 [...]
- move packages from testing - stable for F-8 and F-9; build new
rpmfusion-release packages that have the testing repo disabled!

MUST FIX

But for now I think it's best to leave everything in testing to make it
obvious that we are still in the testing phase.

Here is another status update. It's not also in the wiki at
 http://rpmfusion.org/ImportStatus ; please help with keeping it up2date;
 tia!

Replying to this in the same MUSt / SHOULD fix style as I did to Next

I'll look into fixing iscsitarget.

As for qc-usb that will require quite some work to get to work with 2.6.27. I
vote for dropping it, as I'm working on rewriting it as a gspca subdriver. I
have fedora kernel package commit rights so if we get any complaints about this
one lacking I'll drop the new gspca subdriver into the Fedora kernel package. I
can even try to get it in the F-10 kernel, although I probably won't due to
lack of time.

Anyways neither of this is a going live blocker: SHOULD fix

Re: First steps of the transition from Livna to RPM Fusion begins now for livna-devel users!

Find below a cut'n'pasted and slightly enhanced version of a post from my

As you'll likely have heard by now: RPM Fusion ( http://rpmfusion.org ), the
merger of Dribble, Freshrpms and Livna gets closer to its official
release/start. Most of the packages from Livna have been imported and build
for RPM Fusion already, hence we now begin to slowly move users from Livna
over to RPM Fusion by activating the RPM Fusion free and nonfree rawhide
repos for users of livna's devel branch *now*.
[...]

Is there any chance of getting all the kmod packages rebuilt against
the the current 2.6.27-3 release? The rest of the packages I've tested
look great, its just some of the kmod ones I can't.

I build the kmods for the kernel that were shipped with the beta. If you
follow rawhide then you might want to install the akmod-packages (e.g.
akmod-nvidia); then the akmods scripts will automatically build new kmod
packages when you install a new kernel-install (or during boot); that's
similar to how dkms does it.

The plan is to rebuild all kmods in RPM Fusion for the latest rawhide
kernel automatically once a week (likely on each Sunday) to make sure
they still compile (and for users with slow netbooks, where you don't
want to compile modules); but I haven't got around to set that up yet,
sorry.

[Bug 34] Review request: xmltv - A set of utilities to manage your TV viewing

2008-10-15 Thread RPM Fusion Bugzilla
http://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34

--- Comment #5 from NicolasChauvet [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-10-15 15:27:07 ---
(In reply to comment #4)
 * missing desktop file for xmltv-gui
The Fedora guidelines are pretty strict on this, so even if the use case is
limited here, it'd be better to have one.
 https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/Guidelines#Desktop_files
 Either http://wiki.xmltv.org/favicon.ico or http://wiki.xmltv.org/logo.png can
 be used for the icon.
So..., I have investigated.
The normal use would be to have:
tv_check --scan --listings /someplace/XMLTV_grabbed.xml --shows
~/.xmltv/shows.xml
(it would need to be --configured before).
XMLTV_grabbed.xml is usually generated from tv_grab_yourlocale but there is no
sure way where to expect this file.(It depend on where the related apps store
the file, but system wide TV.xml file isn't common). Also shows.xml are user
dependant, but might be different than the current users. (for example if user
schlobinux want to check shows from mythtv or freevo within the schlobinux X
session).
I would add that .desktop files aren't designed to support parsing of two files
until now, so it doesn't worth the case to use this as it will lead to hardcode
the path, whereas it can change often and for different uses.

 * Islandic grabber is not built. Adding the following fixes it :
 BuildRequires: perl(XML::DOM)
 BuildRequires: perl(XML::LibXSLT)
Fixed and mock tested in Rawhide and F-8 (it works).

Re: First steps of the transition from Livna to RPM Fusion begins now for livna-devel users!

2008-10-15 Thread Richard Koerber

Hi!

  * having libdvdcvs in one of our repos could lead to projects or
cooperation's not to mention or link to us. That's not limited to Fedora
or Red Hat; also some journalists and howto-writers will also chose to
*not* mention RPM Fusion and thus not link to us, as it might be to
dangerous in some countries

I can just endorse that...

For me as an author of a German Fedora blog, I am always having mixed emotions
about Livna. On the one hand, it's undoubtedly an important repository for
Fedora. On the other hand, I am not allowed to mention it because this could
indirectly be illegal advertising for a copy protection remover, which can be
punished with up to one year of prison in Germany. I know that other German
Fedora authors are thinking the same about that. Livna is that certain
repository with sweet content, but also with a bad smell.

I also offer a web service where changes in yum repositories are constantly
tracked. I always wished to add Livna, but I didn't because of the same legal
considerations.

I see it that way: You have put a lot of effort on RPMfusion. You already
offer a lot of packages that are important and also legal for non-commercial
distribution. RPMfusion will be, without any doubt, the most important 3rd
party repository for Fedora.

It would be sad to waste all this great work because of just a single package.
It would be stupid to give away all that free advertising in wikis and blogs
and magazines, just to keep that single package. After all, libdvdcss is just
a rpm -ivh http://someotherserver; command away, for those people who really
want to have it.

Just my 2cc...

Best regards
