FWIW, I'm pushing to get gstreamer1-vaapi into Fedora proper -
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1062324 - it's not quite the same
package, as it's for GStreamer 1.x, not GStreamer 0.10.

If someone wants to use it as a baseline for a gstreamer-vaapi-0.5.8 package,
that'd be fine by me.

I ran a quick search and on F20 there's only libva-intel-driver, no such thing
as a freeworld package for it (compared to comment 2 and comment 3) - is a
separate freeworld package still required or the situation has been resolved
on that front?

What's the status when it comes to gstreamer-vaapi and this bug report? Comment
#9 hints that this should be moved over to Fedora core rather than rpmfusion,
and the rest of the comments don't seem to disagree on that.

FWIW, the 0.5.8 version of GStreamer VA-API plugins is out:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/gstreamer-devel/2014-January/045788.html

Would love to finally see this happen on Fedora :)

No, there are no runtime or other ffmpeg or gst-ffmpeg dependency anymore
  with
  latest versions.

You still need the driver for the video card though, otherwise it's pretty
useless, and for Intel drivers that means libva-intel-driver. Would be great
 to
get this package in as I've worked on enabling vaapi in GNOME 3.10 for Fedora
 20.

There is also the vdpauvaapiIntel VA backend layer that is now possible
using:
https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/2897
Probably less efficient than using VAAPI natively.

A new gstreamer-vaapi release was made 2 days ago.

Latest versions of gstreamer-vaapi should no longer have a ffmpeg dependency.

Does that mean it can go into Fedora now? Then the review request here should
be closed.

Latest versions of gstreamer-vaapi should no longer have a ffmpeg dependency.
The plugin used to depend on ffmpeg due to using the ffmpeg parsers, but new
parsers have been written for GStreamer and are now in the gst-plugins-bad
module. Latest releases of gstreamer-vaapi, or at least the git master do no
longer depend on it.

That said packaging this will not automatically mean that it will work with
Totem, but it should work for things like Transmageddon. For Totem the problem
is interaction between the GPU video decoding and the GPU OpenGL stuff in
Clutter. I think the final patches to make that a smooth process will only end
up being released targetting GStreamer 1.0 (there is a 1.0 branch of
gstreamer-vaapi, but it is quite immature atm).

--- Comment #3 from Nicolas Chauvet kwiz...@gmail.com 2011-07-12 17:41:12 ---
libva-freeworld version is the version that had the real VA backend driver.

libva only have the wrapper library. So in order to have the gtreamer-vaapi to
work, there is a need to have either libva-freeworld or even
vdpau-video-freeworld there. (the bridge to a VDPAU backend driver).

That been said, I never succeeded in using this VA-API capability in gstreamer.
(not tested recently thought)...

Anyone have it reported to work ?

I was wrong. The latest version of both libva and libva-freeworld are present

actually, hold this, just realized we're potentially going to be able to get
libva into fedora; if so, this should go there too. i'll see how that review
 goes.

Looks like libva is in Fedora. Is this some sort of forgotten review? Is it
still needed?

(Also noticed versions of libva (Fedora) and libva-freeworld (RPMFusion)
differ.)
