rsync --server and "max connections"

2005-07-12 Thread Jeremy Lepore

Greetings,

There is a "max connections" limit when using rsync --daemon, as
per the rsyncd.conf file (default is 0).

Is there also one when rsync --server (on the target node) is us used (in
the absence of a rsyncd.conf file) ?

If so, would there be a warning message like "max connections (#) reached
- try again later" ?

(using 2.5.4 on aix 5.2 for source and target)

Thank you.

Jeremy

qsecretary notice

2005-07-12 Thread The qsecretary program
Hi. This is D. J. Bernstein's automated mail-handling program. I've
received a message from you addressed to one of Professor Bernstein's
public mailing lists. The top of your message is shown below.

Professor Bernstein has asked me to reject all anonymous messages and
bulk mail messages. But I'm a rather primitive computer program; I'm not
sure whether your message identifies you, and I'm not sure whether it's
bulk mail.

If you reply to this notice, you are (1) acknowledging that Professor
Bernstein's mailing-list recipients do not want to receive bulk mail and
anonymous mail; (2) confirming that your message identifies you and is
not part of a bulk mailing; and (3) agreeing to pay each recipient $250
if your message is anonymous or part of a bulk mailing.

I won't look at the contents of your reply. A simple OK is fine, as long
as it's sent to the address shown above. You don't have to include a
second copy of your message.

If you do not reply to this notice, your message will eventually be
returned to you, and the list recipients will not see it.

I realize that this confirmation process is inconvenient. I'm sorry for
the hassle. I hope that IM2000, Professor Bernstein's new Internet mail
architecture, succeeds in eliminating these problems. In the meantime,
we're all suffering because of a few inconsiderate people.

Sincerely,
The qsecretary program

P.S. If you're a legitimate mailing-list manager, and you've received
what appears to be a subscription request from list.cr.yp.to: That
request is a forgery. Professor Bernstein uses different addresses for
his mailing-list subscriptions. Please remove the list.cr.yp.to address
from your mailing list. Do not reply to this message.

Note that high-quality mailing-list software confirms each subscription
request with a secure cryptographic authenticator; supports tracing by
returning a complete copy of each request, including Received fields;
and supports filtering by adding a Mailing-List field to every outgoing
message, including confirmation notices. If your software does not have
these features, upgrade!

[Bug 2871] New: rsync fails on chown command.

2005-07-12 Thread samba-bugs
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2871

Summary: rsync fails on chown command.
   Product: rsync
   Version: 2.6.4
  Platform: PA-RISC
OS/Version: HP-UX
Status: NEW
  Severity: major
  Priority: P3
 Component: core
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 QAContact: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

When using rsync to copy files within the same server, to a different structure,
have been getting the following errors:
rsync: chown "/newexport/home/huffjl/dmesgout" failed: Invalid argument (22)

The original file looks like:

-rw-r--r-- 1 nobody sys 29 Sep 5 export/home/huffjl/dmesgout

The resultant file looks like this, if copied at all:

-- 1 root sys 29 Sep 5 export/home/huffjl/dmesgout

After a "quantity" of these errors, rsync just stops, no errors, no messages.

The primary command used was:
rsync -ax /export/home/huffjl/ /newexport/home/huffjl

rsync breaks suddenly while syncing

2005-07-12 Thread Markus Darges

Hello,

since two weeks I got problems with my rysnc. I wrote a script to sync
our ftp-server. Everything was working fine. Yet am getting errors like

rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (130353504 bytes received so far)
[receiver]
rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4092 bytes: phase "unknown"
[generator]: Connection reset by peer (104)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(909)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(359)

on mirror  ftp.gwdg.de::pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/

or for example on thar mirror:

rsync.uni-bayreuth.de::fedora-linux-extras/

rsync: read error: Connection reset by peer (104)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(515)
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (1771248 bytes received so far)
[generator]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(359)

I am using rsync-2.6.3-1.rpm. OS is fedora core 3 with kernel 2.6.10.
df shows that only half of my space is used.

Any idea what that could be?

Thanks,

Markus
