Newbe....

2001-12-14 Thread jdespres

I'm just starting out with rsync and having the following problems: I'm
getting autorization errors when I try to fire up a transfer between two
e250's. I would like to basically mirror users between two systems.

I've used the basic format that has been stipulated in the doc's still
having problems

Joe: I'm guessing you're doing the external transport thing: 'rsync
-options /path/to/whatever remotehost:/path/to/where/you/want/whatever'
In that form, it relies on host-based authentication... rsh, rlogin sort
of thing. if you can't 'rsh remotehost rsync --version', you can't use
the rsh external transport.
If you have ssh available, you can add '-e ssh', which will have rsync use
ssh instead of rsh.
If you've set up a rsyncd server, make sure you're using the '::' syntax,
else your client will try rsh again.

man rsh
man hosts.equiv
man rhosts (may be same as hosts.equiv... ymmv)
man ssh
man rsyncd.conf
man rsync?

Well, as another newbie I would say first of all try rsync again with the
'-v' option to see if it gives any more info about the problem.

Newbe help please

2000-12-03 Thread ghorghor Bey

Hi,

i tried to use rsync to backup a remote sun station to a
local linux RedHat 6.2 station.
I install the same ( last ) version of rsync on both machine
(tar, ./configure, make, make install )
on the sun i create a rsyncd.conf
to let a test directory available,
i launch the rsync daemon on the sun server.

Now on my linux station i can do : rsync my.sun.station::
and i see my directory that i configured in rsyncd.conf

but if i do
rsync -a my.sun.station:directory local_directory
i have this error message :
 permission denied
 unexpected timeout in read_input

WHY ?
can someone help me ?
