It actually happened a couple of weeks ago. The guys name is Richard Price. I believe he was actually a doctor and he was just testing the airport security. He wrapped his gun in $20 bills and placed it in a peanut can; he also had a knife; plus he placed an 18 knife in the end of a walking cane. There is probably something in the Birmingham News. Not sure if any links are still available. but it did happen!!! The U.S. attorney's office in Birmingham charged 46-year-old Richard D. Price with attempting to board an aircraft with a concealed weapon. The charge carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Price also faces state misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed weapon and violating the state firearms act. Price's Oct. 25 arrest came as airports and airlines heightened security after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. Price appeared before a magistrate Thursday afternoon with his attorney, Richard Jaffe, before being released on a $500 unsecured bond. The magistrate gave Price a general order not to possess any weapons while out on bond and also ordered Price to undergo mental health treatment. Court papers said Price acknowledged when questioned that he attempted to board the plane with the weapons because he did not believe that the airline had provided adequate security. In an interview with The Birmingham News, Price, who has been dismissed from his medical resident's position at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, said that when he ordered his ticket to Seattle from Delta Airlines by phone, he asked what guarantee there was for his and other passengers' safety. He said the answer did not satisfy his concerns. Jaffe described Price as well-meaning. The U.S. attorney has no choice but to take all these cases seriously and I'm glad they are, Jaffe said. I think in the end when all of the information surfaces, I think that Dr. Price's true well-meaning intentions will be clear and apparent. Price checked in at the ticket counter and attempted to pass through the security checkpoint to the gate area, when security detected the outline of a handgun in his carry-on bag through an X-ray image, according to an affidavit prepared by FBI special agent Mark Sawyer . Birmingham police asked Price where the gun was and Price directed officers to a package wrapped like a Christmas gift, according to the affidavit. Inside was a peanut can that held a loaded .22-caliber gun wrapped inside two $20 bills, placed inside a clear plastic bag and covered with peanuts, court papers said. Authorities said Price also told police there was a switchblade knife in the shaving kit that was wrapped in foil, apparently to blend in with medical instruments found nearby within the bag. Well, if its just us...I'll get this first round and then we'll switch. It's kinda funny: During the week, especially closer to the game, the talk really drops off. I wonder sometime if the server is screwed up or something. Then, come Monday when I get back to work, tons of emails. I've had up to 900 emails after a game weekend. Talk about a 'select all - delete' Do the folks not get out into the sunshine during the weekends? Do they have an account with Papa John's and Steak-Out? I can only imagine what it will be like after the allbarn game. We're leaving Wednesday at lunch and won't be back until Sunday night. Come that Monday morning, I expect a new email record to be set. I would like to be a fly inside the car window of Ron and SonJa's trip over. I bet she has him crying by now. I wonder how many times they had to stop and wrestle to see who's right? We have a chance to win this weekend, but I'm not looking for a 'W'. All season we've found a way to lose in the final minutes and unless something changed this week, the same may hold true again.
