Re: [RollTideFan] Couple of Links to Start Your Day

2003-05-30 Thread Devonna Snuggs

Thompson linebacker Tony Bell, ranked as the No. 6 recruit in the country by
Sporting News, said it's because the SEC is in the South.

"I think it's because people not wanting a black coach in the SEC -- people
from the South," said Bell, who is black and is considering LSU, Auburn,
Georgia and Tennessee. "If it was up North or out West it would be a whole
different thing."

Stover agreed: "It's the South, Southeastern Conference, South; that's
letting you know right there. Everybody knows about the South, it's still
racist. Nobody is stupid."

Okay, so how many other schools (Div IA) have black coaches? ND is the only
I can think of and they are not part of a conference! Why the hell is the
SEC the problem? Ugh!

[RollTideFan] Couple of Links to Start Your Day

2003-05-30 Thread Joel Perry
http://espn.go.com/ncaa/news/2003/0529/1560644.html
DESTIN, Fla. -- The Southeastern Conference will distribute more than $100
million in revenues this year, yet another gaudy reflection of the strength
of the nation's richest league.
Then there are the facts and figures nobody at this week's annual conference
meetings wants to discuss.
Three of the SEC's 12 schools have football teams on probation. Six more
have had football or men's basketball teams under NCAA investigation in the
past 24 months.
In addition, Alabama is reeling from an embarrassing coaching scandal, and
when the Crimson Tide failed to hire a black coach, Jesse Jackson called the
conference a bastion for racists.

Several of Alabama's top black high school football players for the class of
2004 say they believe that the sidelines of the SEC are segregated because
of racism. But those same players will still consider signing with teams in
what they call the nation's best conference.
Half of the eight prospects interviewed overall -- seven black and one
white -- said they are less likely to go to the University of Alabama
because of its repeated coaching changes, while all of the black players
said they would prefer to be led in college by a black head coach.

[RollTideFan] Irishman (Non-Bama, Roll Tide Anyway!)

2003-05-30 Thread Rick.McMahan
Enjoy the joke!
Just 92 *freak'in* days till kickoff!!!

An Irishman had been drinking at a pub all night. The bartender finally said
that the bar is closing. So the Irishman stood up to leave and fell flat on
his face. He tried to stand one more time; same result.
He figured he'll crawl outside and get some fresh air and maybe that will
sober him up.
Once outside he stood up and fell flat on his face. So he decided to crawl
the 4 blocks to his home. When he arrived at the door he stood up and again
fell flat on his face. He crawled through the door and into his bedroom.
When he reached his bed he tried one more time to stand up. This time he
managed to pull himself upright, but he quickly fell right into bed and is
sound asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. He was awakened the next
morning to his wife standing over him, shouting, "So, you've been out
drinking again!!"
"What makes you say that?" he asked, putting on an innocent look.
"The pub called -- you left your wheelchair there again."

There's plenty of fault to pass around, but I would bet the parents have

Sounds more like "Survivor- RollTideFan style" except for the "the Vols suck" part (I
think they misspelt "Reagan sucks") and the sticker saying "I'm a soccer Dad" is
missing. That'd do it. :-)

[RollTideFan] Now This is really Reality TV!

2003-05-30 Thread Devan Orange
Due to the popularity of the Survivor shows, Tennessee is planning to
do its own, entitled "Survivor-Tennessee Style."

The contestants will start in Jackson, travel up to Big Sandy and on
to Grinders Switch and Hohenwald. Then they will head over to Pulaski and
down to Fayetteville and over to Monteagle. From there they will
proceed up to Tracy City, then back around through Rock Island,
Smithville, and finally end up in Carthage.

Each will be driving a pink Volvo with Yankee license plates and a
large bumper sticker that reads:
"I'm gay.
I'm a vegetarian.
Beer is harmful to your health.
The Vols suck.
Vote YES for an income tax.
Deer hunting is murder,
and I'm here to confiscate your guns!"

The first one that makes it to Carthage alive, wins. Good luck to all
contestants!!

[RollTideFan] UAB settles sexual abuse lawsuit

2003-05-30 Thread Joel Perry
UAB settles sexual abuse lawsuit

Associated Press

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB and a teenager settled a lawsuit that contended she
was sexually exploited by numerous athletes after enrolling at age 15.
The value of the settlement was not known. The judge sealed records in the
case, which he dismissed Thursday.
Brittany Benefield, now 18, sued in 2001, saying she became a sexual
"plaything" for more than two dozen UAB football and basketball players
after enrolling.
Benefield initially sought $40 million in the suit. The complaint at first
was filed anonymously, but a court ruled her name had to be made public in
records for the case to proceed.
Lawyers could not comment because of a gag order.
The lawsuit contended administrators, coaches and campus police knew of the
sexual encounters in a UAB dormitory and failed to stop them. The school
denied the claim.
Benefield received a high school diploma at 13 after completing a
home-schooling program. She left UAB in December 2000.
