[RollTideFan] Charlie Harbison

2003-05-27 Thread Pat Smoot

Please excuse my ignorance, but maybe someone that
has played football can answer my question. Is someone that has done
nothing but coach defensive backs qualified to coach wide receivers? Why
didn't we hire someone that has coached on the offensive
side?

Yep.

I'll tell you why in a little while. I've domestic chores to tend to at the
moment.

Re: [RollTideFan] Charlie Harbison

2003-05-27 Thread Jeff Todd
Back your question...

Let us think for a moment.

Defensive Backs defend who/what?

Receivers.

To coach players to defend against receivers, you have to be a pretty good
receiver yourSlef. Not in the physical sense, but the mental sense. You have
to understand formations, routes, timing, etc. If you know how to train a
defensive back, it would stand to reason that you would be able to train
someone to beat a defensive back. So the two positions kind of go
hand-in-hand from a coaching perspective.

For the record, Harbison HAS coached receivers for a couple years.

As an added bonus...Harbison's coaching days at LSU were over early last
Winter when he was reassigned to an adminstrative position. Sadly, his wife
died and Charlie is left with 4 children to care for. Not sure how coaching
in Tuscaloosa is going to be more conducive to raising children than LSU is.
Maybe Charlie has family in or around Tuscaloosa who can help out with the
kids.

No one was was happier to see Charlie Harbison leave Tuscaloosa than I was.
I honestly can't believe they are bringing back someone that DumBozo hired.
Like I've said so many times lately, we really aren't in a position to be
choosy. So, I reckon I'll just have to get over it and hope he does better
this time around.

Thanks. I really hate that about his wife hopefully with better
leadership this time around, he can do a better job. It really isn't fair
to blame anyone hired by Dumbose because he was the real root of all evil
they had no chance for survival.
