[rules-users] can't put formula on Guvnor screen
Hi Team ! Earlier I sent this mail to rules-...@lists.jboss.org. Mark Proctor asked me to mail here so I am mailing here in the hope of reply. Since yesterday only I started learning Drools with the help of Google and *JBOSS DROOLS BUSINESS RULES pdf file*. I faced many problems to understand the concept but now its going smooth. But the problem is the *version of PDF file of the book* and the *Govener version*. *Its quite different*. I request you all to please provide me the latest version of PDF as I am unable to find on net. The problem I am facing is to put the formula as given in the screen shot in the book. I am unable to put the *formula* as described in JBOSS DROOLS BUSINESS RULES pdf file on page no. 102.the formula is *salesValue-10 as the box is not capable of taking cahracters. *It is taking only integer. Thanks in Advance for all the help and material ___ rules-users mailing list rules-users@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/rules-users
Re: [rules-users] can't put formula on Guvnor screen
The book, as Mark also said, is out of date compared to the current (5.4) version of Drools and Guvnor. I suspect you've elected to set the field's value to a literal rather than formula. Please try deleting the constraint and adding back. When clicking on the pencil icon next to the operator be sure to select "New formula". I tested formula with 5.4 and it works as I defined. What version of Guvnor are you using? Re: [rules-users] can't put formula on Guvnor screen
Congratulations :) You win the prize for finding (possibly) the first bug in 5.4. Using free-format DRL is, as you've found, a work-around. Can you please raise a bug at https://issues.jboss.org/browse/GUVNOR and I'll fix as soon as possible. HI Mike, I am working with zeeshan on same project since last week and face problem in formula generation in *Then* section of a rule. We are targeting guvnor as user friendly tool with minimum coding and quick development of complex rules. But with missing formula section in *Then* we are getting dependent on coding using *free form Drl*.We raised issue as instructed by you on *Jira*. Re: [rules-users] can't put formula on Guvnor screen
Thanks for raising the JIRA. It is now fixed (for 5.5.0.beta1). For 5.4, you may have seen from the release notes, I made the "value editors" for different data-types more robust - only permitting entry of valid values. It is very unfortunate I missed "formula" on the "THEN" part, that as you noticed, was defaulting to a TextBox for a literal value (i.e. just a numeric, in your case). 5.3 did not have this problem (and might present features closer to those in the book you are reading). Finding bugs always helps the community at large :) As for your prize, rest in comfort knowing that whenever I see your name I will curse ;) If you'd like to get more involved with developing Guvnor, read the "Getting involved" part of the user-guide (I forget exactly where it is) and come to one of the IRC channels :) With kind regards, Mike On 16 May 2012 05:56, zeeshan khan wrote: > > > > *wo Mike.I can't believe it.its been only two days I > have started digging around Drools and found a bugIt would be great if > I can help this community in any ways... by the way MikeI am > desperately waiting for my prize ;-)* > > > > > > > > > *On Tue, May 15, 2012 at 6:38 PM, Michael Anstis > wrote: > * >> >> *Congratulations :) >> >> You win the prize for finding (possibly) the first bug in 5.4. Hahahahahaha ;-) and thanks Mike for the fix.so now I need to use *5.5.0.beta1*..?? Currently I am using *guvnor-5.4.0.CR1-tomcat-6.0* WAR file then imported it in Eclipse IDE, opened the browser and found the Guvnor Drools GUI and after that followed JBOSS DROOLS BUSINESS RULES(old version I asked u earlier about this and if u can provide me the latest version) file to create rules and fact models. Re: [rules-users] can't put formula on Guvnor screen
You can get the latest, bleeding edge, release from our Continuous Integration server:- https://hudson.jboss.org/hudson/job/guvnor/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/guvnor-distribution/target/ Make sure you pick a build that has the fix in it! You can also download the source and build from that, it's not too difficult (there is a README in Guvnor's root explaining how). Re: [rules-users] can't put formula on Guvnor screen
In an ideal world you should not normally need to think about sequencing the order of rule execution. I suspect you are thinking "procedurally". The "WHEN" part of a rule is evaluated as Facts are inserted into Working Memory. This causes Activations for the "THEN" part to appear on an Agenda (schedule). When you call "fireAllRules" the Activations on the Agenda are executed. If an Activation causes a change to the Facts is Working Memory rules' "WHEN" parts are re-evaluated and either new Activations added to the Agenda (e.g. if you modify an existing Fact, insert a new one etc), or possibly other existing Activations removed (e.g. if you retract a Fact or a change causes a previous match to no-longer be valid). There is a nice flow-chart in the Drools Expert documentation explaining this and Truth Maintenance. Production Rule Systems are meant to be used such that you place all your Knowledge (Facts) into its Working Memory and after a bit of churning your results appear :) If however you really need to order the execution of the Activations you can use Salience, Agenda Groups or a Process Flow (and possibly others, I forget). jBPM is now the de-facto Process Engine integrating with Drools. Rule Flow was jBPM's predecessor and AFAIK should be considered deprecated. There are others much more qualified on this forum to suggest best practice and the comment on the pit-falls of trying to sequence rules' execution. Hopefully they can also give you some advice. Re: [rules-users] can't put formula on Guvnor screen
I'd recommend Drools Expert 5.4.0's user guide. I always found it informative. Guvnor's user-guide has improved vastly over the past few releases, but it won't win any literacy prizes. http://www.jboss.org/drools/documentation has links to the existing book list. The Cookbook is the most recent and has good reviews, but I don't think it's a beginners guide. Perhaps, once you've learned more you can author an updated version of the book :) Or, if you want to get involved, helping improve Guvnor's documentation would be a good entry point. Re: [rules-users] can't put formula on Guvnor screen
It should be working in 5.5.0.beta1. 5.4.0.Final is what we released. I would not recommend using 5.4.0.beta1 as it is pre-release and some of it's internals could have changed for 5.4.0.Final (and later). Consequentially, and I believer other community members have been caught out this way, there is a risk something you author in 5.4.0.beta1 cannot be opened in 5.5.
