Re: [sage-devel] Huge patch on Trac 7477: Matroid theory

2013-05-24 Thread Travis Scrimshaw
Hey,
I'm for accepting en masse since it is (mostly) self-contained, provided
the doc builds cleanly too. From a skim-through of the patch, it seems like
there is some documentation formatting I'd like to see changed (and some
things that might be misformatted). However we can fix this up over time
since this is minor compared to the functionality.

Wasn't the second point addressed in http://trac.sagemath.org/14627, so
shouldn't the matrices be replaced?

Best,
Travis

Great, we appreciate this very much!

Well, I am not exactly volunteering :-) But there are a bunch of
regular dot2tex users in the Sage project; so with some chance we
should be able to at least find someone that would agree to do basic
maintenance (i.e. fix whatever little bugs we find for Sage, instead
of patching our package :-)).

But of course it would be nicer to have a real maintainer that would
develop it further!

You also both confused sage-the-distribution with sage-the-software.

If freetype's license were a problem to distribute it with gpl-licensed
code, it wouldn't be in any distribution!

[sage-devel] freetype license issue

2013-05-24 Thread Jeroen Demeyer
It seems that we cannot legally distribute freetype within Sage, since
it is GPLv2-compatible but not GPLv3-compatible:

http://www.freetype.org/license.html

We need GPLv3-compatible because some software is non GPLv2-compatible
(gcc, glpk, iconv, libgap, ppl, readline).

[sage-devel] sage-days ?52? arithmetic and complex dynamics

Adam Towsley and I and organizing a sage-days November 7-10 at the Florida
Institute of Technology (http://wiki.sagemath.org/sagedaysACD). The project
in arithmetic and complex dynamics is just getting off the ground and it
would be great to have a few more experienced sage users/developers there
(general topics of number theory and algebraic varieties). Anyone
interested in these topics is encourage to attend and we have some funding
for travel and lodging.

See the wiki page or send me an e-mail if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Sooo how do we do ? We check that the ticket is up to date,
does not break doctests, and we set it to "positive review" with as
reviewer "The Sage Team" ? :-P

Otherwise they may have to rebase their patch every second day.

It might not exactly be totally abandoned upstream (it's more "done"):
Here's what the author (David Harvey) wrote to me offlist earlier

David Harvey has come up with a trivial patch to the *test* code, and
I've created a preliminary spkg with that patch just for testing whether
it fixes the issue for you all.

See the ticket [1] for details and for a link to that spkg.
