[sage-devel] Re: Sage 9.2 does not works in macos Big Sur

2020-11-05 Thread Juan Luis Varona
But, actually, it seems that macos Big Sur is not the problem.
I have not noticed it before, but *sage-9.2-OSX_10.15.7-x86_64.app.dmg
<http://mirrors.mit.edu/sage/osx/intel/sage-9.2-OSX_10.15.7-x86_64.app.dmg>
does
not work *in macos 10.15.7. !!

I do not understand how a sage for macos 10.15.7 that does not works on
macos 10.15.7 has been released. Perhaps some additional software installed
in the mac where this version were checked?

The problem seem to be python3, the same than in my previous message (I
copy and paste from my try in macos 10.15.7):
***
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named '_ssl'
┌┐
│ SageMath version 9.2, Release Date: 2020-10-24 │
│ Using Python 3.8.5. Type "help()" for help.│
└┘
Please wait while the Sage Jupyter Notebook server starts...

The Jupyter notebook requires ssl, even if you do not use
https. Install the openssl development packages in your system and
then rebuild Python (sage -f python3).
***

The suggestion sage -f python3 again gives an error, after a very long
quantity of messages in the terminal .

(I'm not an expert, I do not know how to install the openssl development
packages in my system as, I suppose, most sagemath users.)

[sage-devel] Sage 9.2 does not works in macos Big Sur

2020-11-01 Thread Juan Luis Varona
(Sorry for my bad English)

I have downloaded *sage-9.2-OSX_10.15.7-x86_64.app.dmg
<http://mirrors.mit.edu/sage/osx/intel/sage-9.2-OSX_10.15.7-x86_64.app.dmg> and
it does not work *in macos Big Sur (that is, macos 11, that it is now yet
in beta, but that it will be released in a couple of weeks). I suppose that
the same will happens with *sage-9.2-OSX_10.15.7-x86_64.dmg*
<http://mirrors.mit.edu/sage/osx/intel/sage-9.2-OSX_10.15.7-x86_64.dmg>.

The problem is that it cannot make (I'm not sure if this is the correct
cord) python3, because some packages such as ssl does not exits. The
suggestion of using sage -f python3 again provides an error.

However, *sage-9.1-py2-OSX_10.11.6-x86_64.app.dmg
<http://mirrors.mit.edu/sage/osx/intel/sage-9.1-py2-OSX_10.11.6-x86_64.app.dmg>
*(that
uses python2) works correctly.

It is true that macos Big Sur is yet in beta stage, but it will be released
very soon, and now sold macs will become with this system.

Till the problem is solved, I suggest to include, in the download pages
http://mirrors.mit.edu/sage/osx/intel/index.html
(or similar) a note about what to use with macos Big Sur.

(Of course, this is a different problem of the use of sagemath in the
fortcoming macs with arm chips, but it is a previuos step)

Yours,

Juan Luis Varona

Unfortunately, I'm not a developer expert, and I do not know how to manage

another thing is too much complicate for me).

2016-02-18 Thread Juan Luis Varona
I have installed
sage-7.1.beta3-OSX_10.11.3-x86_64.app.dmg
in my macbook air (late 2010) with os x 10.11.2 (El Capitan) and it seems
to work without problems.
Great!!!

>From the app, I can see only the traditional notebook, so I can not to
check jupyter (as long as I know, it is not possible to use sage -n jupyter
from the app).

But, if, inside SageMath-7.1.beta3.app, I execute
/Contents/Resources/sage/ sage -n jupyter
the jupyter aspect appears and seems to work also without problems.

It is not possible to add a preference to the app to choose if you want to
use the traditional notebooks or jupyter?
I do not know if this is difficult or very easy.

Juan Luis

This is true, usually it is necessary to wait for the new version of Xcode to
be able to compile sage under the new versions of osx.
(Now, Command Line Tools OSX 10.11 is already available, but not the final
version of the new XCode.)

But, usually, new versions of osx can execute already compiled versions of
sage, and this does not happen this time. (I like to have always the last
version of osx in one of my computers, and I do not remember this problem in
the past.)

[sage-devel] Re: Sage in Mac OSX 11.11 (El Capitan)

2015-09-10 Thread Juan Luis Varona

Apple released macosx 10.11-"el capitan" (golden master) yesterday. It will
be freely available for everybody in september 30.

I have tried with both
*sage-6.8-x86_64-Darwin-OSX_10.10_x86_64.dmg
<ftp://ftp.fu-berlin.de/unix/misc/sage/osx/sage-6.8-x86_64-Darwin-OSX_10.10_x86_64.dmg>*
and
*sage-6.8-x86_64-Darwin-OSX_10.10_x86_64-app.dmg
<ftp://ftp.fu-berlin.de/unix/misc/sage/osx/sage-6.8-x86_64-Darwin-OSX_10.10_x86_64-app.dmg>*
without success.

Also, compiling from sources generates errors, as with the betas of macosx
10.11.

Then, it seems than sage cannot be used at all in macosx 10.11.

Perhaps somebody more expert than myself should worry about this. :-)

A few days ago, Apple released mac osx 10.11 (El Capitan) public beta5.

As in previous public betas, I can confirm that sage 6.8 does not work.

I have tried again to compile it and it gives similar errors.
The entire log file is here (a 22.9 MB file):

Re: [sage-devel] Sage in Mac OSX 11.11 (El Capitan)

2015-08-08 Thread Juan Luis Varona

Looks like everything is linked correctly. The following suggests that there
is a bug in DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH handling in the OSX 10.11 betas:

 https://forums.developer.apple.com/message/31148

Possibly thats an intentional change of the spec to fix the (still unpatched
on all released OSX versions) DYLD_PRINT_TO_FILE root exploit.

In any case, please file a bug with Apple to bring this to their attention
(even if you wont' get any useful information from them)

Thanks. I have reported it to Apple using the Feedback Assistant for beta
versions of macosx.

I will inform in this list if there are improvements in next betas of mac osx
10.11 (El Capitan).

Yours,

Juan Luis Varona

None of them can be used due to an error. I have not found any information
about it in any sage page, so I report it.
This is the error message:

[sage-devel] Errors with long integers in Mathematica

2013-12-15 Thread Juan Luis Varona
Perhaps some people in this list would like to read this preprint:
http://arxiv.org/abs/1312.3270

It shows the erratic behavior of Mathematica computing determinants with
big integers.

Yours,

Juan Luis
