I've created a ticket http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/11081
to update the instructions on building Sage from source http://www.sagemath.org/doc/installation/source.html which are very outdated and therefore inaccurate. I'd appreciate any comments on the ticket, and hopefully a positive review at some point.
