I'm broke
I'm the idiot who bid around 200 quid for a mint (apparently unused) SAM on eBay a couple of weeks ago. I haven't got it yet, but was wondering if you guys had any tips on how to keep the SAM Coupe logo bit from being worn away by the palm of my hand - I was sort of thinking of putting a strip of something clear and non-adhesive over it - any ideas? Gavin

Oh, cool - we had that problem too... The MGT logo's still there, so I guess I can't complain too bitterly! :) BTW, I don't think that paying 200 quid for a SAM is that bad - paying 100 quid for a SAM and never using it would be a different matter. -- Stuart Brady
Mod music from Fred
Hi all, I've uploaded all of the mod music from Fred issues 41-82 to http://convex.org.uk/~stuart/mods. They were taken from the disk images available on nvg. Btw, some of the modules seem to have problems on anything but the SAM mod player. Would anyone have any guess as to why this is? It's possible that there's a problem with the disk images or the code that was used to extract the files, but this seems unlikely to me. Has anyone checked the disk images against their own disks? TTFN, -- Stuart Brady

Btw, some of the modules seem to have problems on anything but the SAM mod player. Would anyone have any guess as to why this is? Some of the mods were converted to 4 bit samples, to reduce the overall file size as the extra resolution wasn't required at the time when using only the SAA1099 for playback. Does anybody know what was changed in the file formats to allow for this? (I might as well write a converter for it...) -- Stuart Brady
