... type PRINT PEEK 15 on your Sam? This is the ROM version number, multiplied by 10. For example, my Sam, and Ian's Sam, have versions 3.0 and 3.5 (though I can't remember which way round, and I'm not in a position to check at the moment). The reason I ask is that MNEMOcompress, which was was on Fred 68, calls a few ROM routines which weren't specified in the documentation[1], and therefore might not necessarily have been exactly the same in different ROM revisions. Indeed, I made it print a big notice on the screen when you run it under a ROM version I hadn't had the opportunity to test. This, as it now turns out, includes the ROM in SimCoupe because Allan's Sam has version 3.1 in it. No one has ever written to me about this... I suppose it figures the ROM that has always been supplied with SimCoupe came from Allan's own SAM. After the discussion with Frode (and to ensure an official ROM was being supplied) I changed the version number back to 3.0 and left the PLC as upper-case. It sounds like this would be better for overall compatability too, even though nothing else is different between 3.0 and 3.1. Does anyone have a 3.5 image they can send me? I'd be interested in comparing them, and it'd be worth adding to the SA ROM collection Simon N Goodwin sent me (I thought that was on NVG already but can't see it). Si

Then why exactly did you send it, if not to reflect some glory on yourself? Would you rather we thought you did it to belittle Wolfgang and his efforts? Bob Brenchley once described me as a "stupid demo coder" and it merely made him look small (no mean feat...). You can call me "some idiot" if you like but in the same way it only serves to detract from your argument. What you wrote (originally) left a sour taste in the mouth, which is a real shame because I'm sure you put Wolfgang up with no ulterior motive.
