[Samba] Samba 2.2.1a and Dataflex
Hello, I have been running Samba 2.2.1a (on Mandrake 8.1) as a domain controller and document file server for several months at two sites without any problems. I moved my 4gl Dataflex files to a Samba share 2 weeks ago and have been experiencing escalating datafile corruptions. The application runs on hundreds of workstations in Windows networks for the last 10 years without any file corruptions even with power and hardware failures. Opportunistic locking is an issue with Dataflex in Windows networks so I turned oplocks off on the Dataflex share (level2 oplocks is also turned off on the share). I had to turn Kernel oplocks off as well to support logon scripts for users with more than 8 characters in the name. Opportunistic locking registry settings have been turned off at the clients. Is there something else I should be doing? I need to solve this quickly as new clients are interested in going with Samba rather than Win2K server - if I can't make this work in the next week, I will have to abandon hours of work learning Samba and go back to Win2K (argh!). [Samba] Getting Samba up and Running
Hello all, I am having problems getting my Samba Server to work as a PDC, version 2.2.3 and I am not sure why I can not get any NT Workstations to Join the domain at all. It says that a primary domain controller can not be found for this domain, does not matter what name of the domain I have in there, or what Name Server I change the name of the Samba server to. Also I have another issue that when I am working with the system, I have a standard config file, and still I can not get onto it al all. Can someone please tell me where I am going wrong, and do not say, I am using NT4 ! Thanks Please find below my smb.conf file. Re: [Samba] The Network path was not found - Please help
This is a question of cross subnet browsing. Read the BROWSING.txt file in docs/textdocs directory in the sources. You need a wins server for cross subnet browsing. I think you have answered your own question, pretty much. Basically, netbios names and DNS names are not always the same. If the clients just have to find the one server, not all the other clients on all the other subnets, just putting the server netbios name and ip in lmhosts on each client might do the trick. Putting the server netbios name on your DNS server also might help. [Samba] Gurus please clear the password expiration and must change issue in SAMBAPDC
Hello Everyone ! I trying to reach the status on my Samba PDC when it is able to send the correct commands to the windows client when the password expired or when it is manually forced to change the password ! The suggestions was that you can do it with LDAP... I've learnt what is LDAP how it works... , and slowly I've prepared my Samba with an LDAP backend, it is working ! Then on the OPenLDAP list I've got a feedback that the OpenLDAP in the current version (2.0.23) is not able to handle all the time stamps except the Last Change now value. The result is that If I set the Password must change on the user account, then it stays in that state until I don't change it back manually, it doesn't matter that the user has changed the password, next logon he can logon with the new passsword but he get the Password must change prompt again ! - I've played with PAM, I cannot say that I understand it well, I'm trying... but am I right that is it possible to force the Samba to use the Unix Passwords for autenthication with the help of PAM, and in this case if I set on the Unix account that the password expired (usermod -e ) then through PAM the Samba can handle this correctly ? I've discovered the last few month's Samba List archive, and I see that this Password Expiration question raised week by week and almost all of the questions stayed in open state because the Gurus are always give info that how to do it (which is very good, and really thank you), but they think that who asked the question is an Expert in LDAP, PAM and Samba, but come on it is not true ! So it would be very good to clear this question, or make a 2-3 pages how-to with the main points of this ! I think lot of Administrators are fighting with this question, including me too ! Sorry if I was a bit long, but I'm pissed off a bit because I've spent to much time to solve this, and I always went into some impasse ! Just One question at the end, does anybody know somebody who has a Working Samba PDC with this Function ? Thanks in advance if anybody answer some real solution on this problem ! Best Regards ! [Samba] freezed application
Hi all, I've got a problem with samba and a windows application which gets the data from a samba share. Sometimes if the users selects the addressbook in his application, it freezes. At the same time appears a "connection reset by peer" in the log.smbd. If the filesharing server is a windows machine the application doesn't lock, so I think it's a samba issue. Some information: The clients are windows 98 machines The server is a linux pc with kernel 2.4.9 and samba 2.2.1a Other network applications ( mail, web, ssh, telnet ) have no problems. The oplocking feature is disable. Any hints, pointer, solutions or possibilites to get further information about this problem are welcome. [Samba] smbpasswd and unix password sync, Samba v2.2.2, Solaris 8
Hello: I am a Samba newbie. Our users want to be able to access their home directories as well as any of the group accessable filesystems. I have this working just fine for a single test user (me). I am using user authentication security. The next step is give access to the users who already have unix accounts. What I want to know is if there is a way to sync up the users smb passwords with their existing unix passwords (Win98 clients, encrypted passwords). The less that I mess with the client side, the better. One option is to add the users to the smbpasswd file using a new password and then reset all of their unix passwords to match. A second option is to add the users using smbpasswd, provide access to the smbpasswd program to each user via sudo and let them change their smbpasswd entries to match their unix passwords. These users are primarilly unix, with the access from windows as an added convenience. If there are any other options, I would like to hear about them. In my smb.conf I put the follow in [global] : printcap name = /etc/printcap load printers = yes printing = lprng print command = /usr/bin/lpr -P%p -r %s lpq command = /usr/bin/lpq -P%p lprm command = /usr/bin/lprm -P%p %j lppause command = /usr/sbin/lpc hold %p %j lpresume command = /usr/sbin/lpc release %p %j queuepause command = /usr/sbin/lpc -P%p stop queueresume command = /usr/sbin/lpc -P%p start and in the [printers] : [printers] path = /var/spool/lpd/%p comment = Impressoras browseable = yes public = yes guest ok = no printable = yes I can map a Printer from my Windows client but when I try to send something to be printted The document dont go to the printer and no error occurs... Anybody knows what's wrong? PS: Sorry my bad english Thanks... RE: [Samba] W2k protection fault w/HP drivers and Samba 2.2
HP driver issues-I think the newer ones need two-way comms with the printers, for Plug and Play purposes, maybe. We have an OfficeJet 570 hooked up to an Intel NetPort Pro; HP says (and it's true, so far) that the 570 drivers won't work if it's hooked up to anything other than the PC's LPT. To use it on the network, they say to use the DJ550C drivers. That's how we've got it set up, and it works. Except for the annoying persistent "Paused" status that is displayed on all of the PCs. The jobs print ok, and I haven't figured out what's causing it. I have a HP DesignJet 450C connected to the second port on the NetPort, and it works just fine. [Samba] samba 2_2 cvs binaries available as RPMs
Hi, we've build samba RPMs from the 2_2 CVS tree. The packages are available for SuSE Linux 7.2, 7.3 and 8.0. You'll find them at ftp://ftp.SuSE.com/pub/people/lmuelle/i386/ in the corresponding subdirectories. Users from Europe, in particular German universities, please use our primary mirror at ftp://ftp.GwDG.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/people/lmuelle/i386/ The source RPM for all SuSE Linux versions is in the src subdirectory. This version is compiled with an appropriate include/version.h to allow people to check which CVS date is the base by calling /usr/sbin/smbd -V Be carefull with starting samba while booting your system, cause the start script asks you for a explicit confirmation about using a CVS snapshot version. This might lead to a hanging boot process. This message also informs about the samba bug reporting page http://www.samba.org/samba/bugreports.html You'll find this message for proofreading in /usr/share/doc/packages/samba/WARN-cvs-version If you find a bug only in the package or have any further suggestions, please feel free to contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] We'll try to build fresh RPMs on a daily base. Hope that helps to develop a stable 2.2.4 release. [Samba] Failed To Join Domain
We've got several samba systems here working (mostly using local authentication), but would like to remove one of our NT servers and replace it with a Samba server using winbind. After compiling Samba 2.2.3a (including pam and winbind), I cannot get the system to join the domain. After several false starts and attempts, I stopped smbd, nmbd, and winbindd, removed the MACHINE.SID file and the secrets.tdb file, deleted the samba server in Server Manager on the domain controller, waited 30 minutes, then added the server. Upon trying 'smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r PDC' on the samba server (without smbd/nmbd/winbindd running), I got the following error message: cli_net_auth2: Error NT_STATUS_NO_TRUST_SAM_ACCOUNT cli_bt_setup_creds: auth2 challenge failed modify_trust_password: unable to setup the PDC credentials to machine PDC. Error was: NT_STATUS_NO_TRUST_SAM_ACCOUNT. change_trust_account_password: Failed to change password for domain DOMAIN. Unable to join domain DOMAIN. [Samba] weird pblm-logons stopped working
interesting problem on my server-- Logons stopped working. In investigating, I noticed that the group family I use was removed from the machine.. (huh?-how?) Also got logon failures.. changed passwords, enabled users via swat, STILL no good. I tested pw's are now good by doing an smbclient -username, and password worked fine. Also, can someone tell me what the X in smbpasswd (5) does? I see documentation for the U,D,M, options, but not for option X Any ideas on what might have happened? I tried re-starting the smbd/nmbd servers --still no good. Mitch B.

RE: [Samba] problem with setfacl
You are looking for the SGI XFS filesystem - this has built in support for ACLs. It requires you to either download their SGI kernel or patch your own. You might be more comfortable patching your existing kernel with the patches from http://acl.bestbits.at/ Whichever one you go for, you will need to recompile a kernel and some tools before you can use ACLs with Samba, Noel -Original Message- From: Vijendra Agarwal [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 22 April 2002 11:13 To: Wade Winright Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [Samba] problem with setfacl hi thanks for ur co-operation. Yep, I see what you mean. I don't actually think Samba has support yet to change these for you but I may be wrong.
