RE: [Samba] Samba 2.2.4 install
if you use make, samba gets installed in /usr/local/samba. if you want to start the new version you would have to start /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd -D /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd -D if you want 2.2.4 you should either remove the old version (and make sure that the one under /usr/local/samba get's started) or upgrade the old one using apt I guess (don't use debian myself) type smbd will give you the location of the old smbd. -Oorspronkelijk bericht- Van: P.Toth Zsigmond Verzonden: za 4/05/2002 11:30 Aan: [EMAIL PROTECTED] CC: Onderwerp: [Samba] Samba 2.2.4 install Hi, i've got a lame question. [Samba] Windows 2000 and Samba as PDC
Dear All, I config samba-2.2.1a-4 in Red Hat 7.1 as a PDC. I successfully add Windows XP as a client but I have to patch "Xpsignorseal.reg". On Windows 2000, it already display "Welcome to domain...". I restart windows and logon to my domain. [Samba] File Archive bit not cleared
Hello all, I'm having a problem with our Tape Backup user not being able to clear the archive bit on files after the backup has been completed (we're running ArcServe 2000 on a Windows NT box). After looking into it closer, it looks like Samba will only permit the archive bit to be cleared if the file is owned by the tape backup user. Even if the tapebackup user is part of the same group as the file and the file has group read/write permissions. This is a serious problem because it causes the tape backup software to continually backup ALL files. We do not want to change the ownership of each file to that of our tape backup user, because this breaks our file system quota support mechanism. Is there a magic flag that can be set in the smb.conf file that permits a user who has group read/write access from setting/clearing the archive bit? We're running Samba 2.2.0a, on a quad-SMP Linux 2.2.15 kernel box. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please reply to this email as well as the list. Many thanks, Stephan. ---Stephan A. Re: [Samba] Can't print from applications in W2K to Samba (version 2.2.3a, Debian woody)
I assume by this line: Printing to the printer directly attached to my W2K client works fine, too. you mean the LBP-1000 works fine attached to your W2K client. Although there may be other problems (filtering comes to mind. You aren't trying to filter the job on the linux server, are you?) I had an identical problem with a lexmark z53, with the same error message. The problem was two way communications. Some printers expect to be able to talk back to the PC. Two way communication is not possible, as far as I know, with a samba server. I found an option in my lexmark driver configuration, on the windows PC, to turn off two way communication. Then, all worked fine. [Samba] 2.2.4/spools/HP DJ 1120 driver problem
Hello Samba-Team and List-Members, Having the new Samba 2.2.4 installed I tried to upload all printer drivers for Windows 2000 to the server. For most of the printers (16) everything seems to work (after hacking some inf-files for older Texas-Instruments Postscript printers). With a HP Deskjet 1120 there are still problems. What I've done so far: (1) added a print share for the DJ 1120 in smb.conf (2) installed driver locally on a W2k client for testing (3) printed a testpage - everything ok (4) uploaded the printer-driver from the Windows 2000 Server CD to the server (the printer driver from the HP-Web-Site could not be uploaded because of one file - ecp*.sys? - PROBLEM) (5) tried to change the printer properties in the Server APW, changes are persistent - well (6) connected a W2k SP2 client to the printer via the local Add-Printer-Wizard and printed a testpage - o.k. (7) tried to view the printer properties on the client results in a message-box saying: The printer properties can not be showed. The procedure could not be finished (translated from german) - ERROR I'm member of the printer admin group and the upload worked - so this might not be an access-rights problem. (8) tried to view the printer properties in the servers APW and got the same message box - ERROR (9) detached the printer from all clients (10) went to the Servers APW and tried to show the printer properties. This works on _some_ clients on another client the message box ...properties can not be showed... comes up again - ERROR (11) reattached the printer to some clients, again no access to the properties on _all_ clients and the APW for the Samba server There seems to be some kind of locking with this driver that is not noticed with other drivers (mostly HP Laserjets und Xerox/Tektronix Phasers using Postscript Drivers). With this locking printer-admins loose control over the printe since properties can not be viewed/changed as long as there is a clients attached - and there will always be some clients attached because the printer is mounted through the startup-script. And even worse, applications which use the properties wont be able to read them and might reject printing to this printer, although MS Word 97 seems to work with the DJ 1120, one can change the paper size. Any solution for this, beside of 'use client driver'? I can send level 10 logs if someone is interested. [Samba] Help! desktop.ini hell!
I made a previous posting a few days ago about a problem I was having with certain things not following me around in a roaming profile. I have upgraded to 2.2.4, and have resolved a number of issues I was having, but one remains and it's driving me crazy. I am using Windows XP Pro clients with 2.2.4 on a RH 7.2 box. Roaming profiles work correctly. However, I have noticed that Samba seems to handle the desktop.ini file incorrectly. On startup using my roaming profile, notepad pops up with the contents of one desktop.ini file. Various other ones are scattered throughout my start menu. My desktop wallpaper follows me, but doesn't set. Obviously this is related to the desktop.ini problem since some sort of OLE functions are embedded in that file in order to customize Explorer's behavior. I read somewhere that various attributes had to be set on the desktop.ini files, like system and hidden. i've tried mapping system and hidden attributes in my [profiles] share, to no avail. Someone mentioned read-only as well because this is how Windows determines desktop.ini is a special file, yet it needs to write to it? Huh? :) Anyway, I'm nutso now over this. I really would like to get this resolved somehow, or at least (for my own benefit) understand more about the problem. If anyone has *any* information, *please* contact me as soon as you can. Thanks Patrick. I'll read up on winbind. -T Quoting Patrick Gunerud [EMAIL PROTECTED]: It sounds like your best option for using samba and Win2k server is to setup the Win2k server as the PDC and join each machine running samba to the domain. ( I do not use domain, only workgroup ) Then I access to samba server from win2000, I found my home directory, displayed user and password input window, and I input them. but could not authorize. This time, smbd run continuous at linux-box. == compile error messages == smbd/password.c: In function `grab_server_mutex': smbd/password.c:1198: warning: passing arg 1 of `message_named_mutex' discards qualifiers from pointer target type Seiichi Nakashima Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
[Samba] How do you configure SWAT to show all options with regular logon id?
When I log into SWAT with my regular logon id it only shows me HOME STATUS VIEW PASSWORD configuration Links at the top of the page. When I logon as root user I see all options. What do I need to configure to give my regular login id access to all configuration options in SWAT? -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
[Samba] Winbind doesn't authenticate users -2.2.4/RH 7.2
I have winbind authenticating against a W2K Domain Controller. It works just fine with 2.2.3. After upgrading to 2.2.4 I can no longer authenticate agains a W2K domain account. Everything compiles, installs, and starts successfully Under 2.2.4. wbinfo -u gives a correct list of users, wbinfo -t verifies that the secret is good. Howerver, running 'getent passwd' and 'getent group' yield only the local users and groups, whereas under 2.2.3 they yielded all local and W2K domain users. Any ideas? [Samba] Samba as PDC and Win XP Pro Machine Accounts
Hi there! I'm having problems to join a Machine Acount to a Samba PDC using Samba 2.2.3a Even if I apply the registry Patch XP reports the following error: - Is possible that the Domain Name FAMILIA was a NetBios name. If is that the case, make sure that the Domain Name is correctly registred with WINS. If you're totaly sure that it isn't a NetBios name, the following information will help you to solve your DNS configuration problems. The following error was occured making a request to DNS for SRV used to find the Domain Controller in the FAMILIA Domain: The error was: (error code 0x05B4 ERROR_TIMEOUT) The request was to the SRV for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.FAMILIA This machine is configured to use DNS servers with the following IP addresses: 192.168.1.1 -- I have been added the machine accounts and user acounts to smbpasswd and /etc/passwd. I can see the samba server in XP and all the shares work fine, but I can't join the machine to Samba server! I also try to set Samba as WINS server, to resolve the NetBios over TCP/IP and configuring the XP client DNS server to 192.168.1.1 (Samba PDC) but both things don't work. Here is my smb.conf file: ;basic server settings workgroup = FAMILIA netbios name = LINUX server string = Samba PDC running %v socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_SNDBUF=8192 SO_RCVBUF=8192 kernel oplocks = no ;PDC and master browser settings os level = 64 preferred master = yes local master = yes domain master = yes ;security and logging settings security = user encrypt passwords = yes wins support = yes log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m log level = 2 max log size = 50 hosts allow = 127.0.0.1 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 ;user profiles and home directory logon home = \\%L\%U\ logon drive = H: logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U logon script = netlogon.bat ; shares [homes] comment = Home Directories browseable = no writeable = yes [profiles] path = /home/samba/profiles writeable = yes browseable = no create mask = 0600 directory mask = 0700 [netlogon] comment = Network Logon Service path = /home/netlogon read only = yes browseable = no write list = root - Thank you all!
