[Samba] Windows 98 Client or Linux problem?

2003-03-02 Thread Robert Palmer
I'm running Samba on a Linux 7.2 recently upgraded to 8.0 system. I have
a problem that occurred
in 7.2 and also occurs in 8.0. My clients are Windows 98. If a client
reboots then regularly it is
not possible to access files on the Linux server without restarting smb
on the server. On the
Windows 98 clients, in network neighbourhood I get \\Robert is not
accessible. No permission
to access resource. /etc/init.d/smb restart fixes it.

Samba is version 2.2.5-10

A tcpdump of a failure from the Linux server gives:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# more smbbad.txt

For some reason I cannot fathom, Samba isn't calling the script. Can
anyone tell me what kinds of things might cause Samba to behave this
way? Anyone know a way around it?
I asked about this a few months ago, from memory. One of the developers
got back to me and said the code seemed to have disappeared for some
bizarre reason. I think he was going to reimplement it in a better way
or something...

(I ended up using winbind+nss instead, but I wasn't a PDC (or LDAP) so
that probably doesn't help you...)

NTconfig.POL shold be in the root of the NETLOGON share.

The only tool that can create a usable NTConfig.POL file is the NT Group
Policy Editor. I know that exists under NT4 Server. Not sure how to do
this under Win2K but I will have the answer within a two weeks. Someone is
working on a tool that allows this to be done from Linux/Unix.

Additionally, your MS Windows NT/2K/XP clients must be full domain
members, otherwise the client will not look for the NTConfig.POL file at
all. That is, when you right click on the 'My Computer' icon and select
'Properties, then 'Network ID' it should show that the machine is a member
of your domain, not of a workgroup.

I did tests, and Samba was faster (after serious
tweaks like TCP window size, etc...) so I stuck with
Samba even though it has some leaks with XP client
disocnnects. I think theres some idle time out
disconnects you can do to avoid this but I havn't done
the research.

[Samba] smaba 3.0 - domain groups

2003-03-02 Thread Łukasz Tomaszewski
few day ago, i've asked about mapping unix-windows groups under samba
2.2.7a.

now, i know that it is impossible. so i've changed samba on my PDC to 3.0
version (smbgroupedit).

but still i've got problems with groups.

before - from another machine when i've used 'wbinfo -g'i've got response
from my PDC:
Domain Admins
Domain Users

after change to samaba 3.0 with the same config file 'wbinfo -g' returns:
Error looking up domain groups.

any suggestions?

[Samba] Problem of access samba from rh8

2003-03-02 Thread Patrick Kwan
Hello,

I already setup a samba server as PDC for windows client to logon and
working fine now with the following config:
- redhat 7.3
- samba 2.2.7a

Then I try to access the samba share from Redhat 8, I can use smbclient to
access the share without problem but I can't access the share with "KDE's
Konqueror" (smb://NetbiosName/), it can show all shares, when I double one
of share, it can show the login dialogue box, then I enter the correct
username and password but nothing displayed, it seem to try connecting the
share.

So, I check the samba.log file, but it show that the user is connected to
the service successfully.

Any body have this issue before?

Thanks for your kindly help!

[Samba] NTconfig.pol not used

2003-03-02 Thread Pat Schlehuber
I am running Samba 2.2.7a on SuSE 8.0 and all Windows/XP clients in a PDC

All runs great except for one problem.

I cannot get NTconfig.pol to be used. I have placed it in the netlogon share and
read/execute permissions are wide open.

I turn on samba loglevel=3 and I never see samba even try to look for NTconfig.pol, or
any *.pol file. This occurs for all of my clients.

Any ideas?

Thanks much,
Pat

[Samba] Is it possible to run samba on HP-UX 9.05 ?

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen.

In the README.DCEDFS from Dir. docs/textdocs in samba 2.27a I read
that
Mr Doyle has tested samba 1.913 with HP-UX 9.05.
Do you have a binary backup of this running samba?
Is it possible to configure the version 2.27a on HP-UX 9.05 ?

When I run configure the logfile has errors with cc -Ae .
The configure command outputs ERROR No locking available.

Thank You very much for an answer.

Re: [Samba] Only printing one copy

2003-03-02 Thread Joel Hammer
This was discussed earlier on this board with another printer (Dec 15). It
was a driver problem. You might check the archives.

At least as far as postscript printing files, samba has nothing to do
with generating multiple copies. The print file sent by the client
contains within it the instructions for generating multiple copies.
I assume you filter the job on the windows client before sending it to
the samba server.

Things to try/think about:

If you print directly from the client to the printer, without samba in
the way, how many copies do you get? This will check if your windows
printer driver is working.

If you change your print command to something like:
print command = echo This is the job %s > /tmp/jobname
and then try:
cat job > /dev/lp0 (I haven't tried this command for a while, but I think
this is right. Your lp may be different.)
how many copies do you get? This bypasses your printing software on linux.

An almost sure solution is to filter your jobs on the windows client
with the HP laserjet III plus (or similar driver). Send this job to
the same queue you use for the jobs generated from the samba server.

[Samba] Only printing one copy

2003-03-02 Thread Dave Ansell
I have a SAMBA print share set up for an EPSON Stylus Colour 800 Printer.

It works OK, but when printing from Windows clients it will only ever print
one copy of a document despite selecting multiple copies.

My Print command is :
   print command = /usr/bin/lpr -r -s -P%p %s

How can I fix this.

Thanks,
Dave
