[Samba] Probs joining Samba PDC with WinXP

2003-07-22 Thread Patrick Flohr
Hello,

I'm using Debian 3.0 with Samba 2.2.8a-1.0 when i try to join my
xp-mashine (xp-pro with sighnorseal patch) to the domain using the root
accout
i get the error: "unknown user or invalid password", but when i connect
via swat everything works fine.
i added a mashineaccount to passwd and smbpasswd, trying to join the
xp-mashine via a normal user accout fails with
"access denied", the following lines are taken from the log file:
[2003/07/23 03:22:22, 0] rpc_server/srv_samr.c:api_samr_set_userinfo(670)
 api_samr_set_userinfo: Unable to unmarshall SAMR_Q_SET_USERINFO.
[2003/07/23 03:22:22, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:pdb_getsampwrid(1418)
 unable to open passdb database.
using the root accout, nothing is loged.

I hope somebody can help, i try for days.
Thanks in advance
Patrick Flohr

[Samba] Profiles not working with W2K SP4,Samba 3.0.0beta2 (already posted but got no answer)

2003-07-22 Thread MH - Entwicklung
Hello,

I still have a problem with my Samba installation. Userprofiles don't work under W2K
SP4. They work fine with Windows NT 4. When loggin on for the first time the user
profile directory is created. After loggin off however no data is written to the
profile directory on the Samba PDC.

When logging on there ist the following activity in the logs (debug level = 1;
log.pc1):

=>
[2003/07/22 14:11:41, 0] rpc_server/srv_pipe.c:api_pipe_netsec_process(1351)
  failed to decode PDU
[2003/07/22 14:11:41, 0] rpc_server/srv_pipe_hnd.c:process_request_pdu(605)

pc1 (192.168.0.1) connect to service test initially as user test (uid=1006,
gid=1006) (pid 823)
<=

When logging off there is just this:

[2003/07/22 14:13:50, 1] smbd/service.c:close_cnum(873)
pc1 (192.168.0.1) closed connection to service test

If I log on at a Windows NT 4 Workstation the log is different (debug level = 1;
log.heu2):

==>
[2003/07/22 14:17:19, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(692)
heu2 (192.168.0.2) connect to service profiles initially as user test (uid=1006,
gid=1006) (pid 846)
[2003/07/22 14:17:20, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(692)
heu2 (192.168.0.2) connect to service netlogon initially as user test (uid=1006,
gid=1006) (pid 846)
[2003/07/22 14:17:20, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(692)
heu2 (192.168.0.2) connect to service test initially as user test (uid=1006,
gid=1006) (pid 846)

  call_nt_transact_ioctl(0x90028): Currently not implemented.
<==

In the logs I can see that W2K SP4 doesn't connect to the profiles share instead there
are some errors in the log (failed to do schannel processing, failed to decode PDU).

When logging off, Samba is only logging that the connection to the home share and
other open shares (The profile share never occurs in the logs) are closed:

Logging off from the W2K workstation takes about 1 1/2 minutes. W2K writes the
following to the eventlog (german log):

=>
Die Registrierungsdatei konnte nicht entfernt werden. Ihre Einstellungen werden nicht
repliziert, falls Sie ein servergspeichertes Profil haben. Wenden Sie sich an den
Administrator.

DETAIL - Zugriff verweigert , Buildnummer ((2195)).
<=

I'm not sure about this message, because it also occurs when logging on and off
locally at the machine itself. The registry tweaks I found on google didn't change
anything about this message. Also logging off locally takes about 1 1/2 minutes time.

Any help is welcome :-) and sorry for my last posting - I accidently hit the "send"
button before finishing my text.

Best Regards
Manfred

[Samba] XP clients regularly lose connection

2003-07-22 Thread Adrian Bolzan
Hi,

We have Samba 2.2.8 on RedHat 9.0 (from rpm).
We connect about 5 Win XP Professional PC's (with Service Pack 1)
to the server.
Roaming profiles are set up.

After about 30 minutes client connections are lost to the server and
the users cannot reconnect to the server, even if samba is restarted.
A reboot of the server is required.

This occurs, it seems at this stage, when large files are copied across
the network from the server to the workstations. Such files include
MYOB databases, and other files over about 50 MB.

(MYOB data directories are mapped to drives, and not UNC.)

Thanks,
adrian

Hi Mark,

I tried this and actually lost all connection to the samba
server!
Now the XP Pro machines cannot communicate with
Samba, so cannot get Roaming profiles, etc., drives,
etc.

Re: [Samba] I've always HATED printing with Samba

2003-07-22 Thread Joel Hammer
OK. Here is what works for me. As usual, your mileage may vary.
I assume you have installed the software for the lexmarkz53 on your
linux server. I assume you can print a test page. If you can't, likely
you are not printing the testpage to a raw queue. The testpage goes to a
raw queue while the real print jobs go to a filtered queue, in my setup.
I assume you know how to run the lexmark setup program which generates the
configuration file.

lexmark supplies print filters that work fine in linux to drive the z53.
I wrote a tutorial on print filters some time ago. I used this filter
as part of that writeup. Here is part of that tutorial.
Start Tutorial=
There is a shell script called z53.sh. This is what your printcap file
should be pointing to.
/usr/local/lexmark/z53/z53.sh
This print filter accepts either pdf files, text files, or postscript files.
Then, using ghostscript, it converts them into a ppm format (whatever that
is), then it pipes them to the real filter, which only can come from
lexmark, z53, and then to your printer.
Here is the z53.sh script:
  2 #!/bin/bash
  3 DEBUG=0
  4 PDIR=/usr/local/lexmark/z53
  5 TMPFILE=`mktemp /tmp/lexmark.XX`
  6
7 # lxgps is a little utility used to setup the
8 # Ghostscript parameters. It sets two parameters
9 # in particular: resolution and paper size. It
10 # determines what to set these to by reading the
11 # configuration file that is passed in.
 12 GSPARMS=`$PDIR/lxacgsparm z53.conf`
 13
 14 runz53 ()
 15 {
 16 cat > $TMPFILE
 17 file -b $TMPFILE | grep -i postscript > /dev/null
 18 if [ $? -eq 0 ]
 19 gs -q -dNOPAUSE $GSPARMS -sDEVICE=ppmraw
-sOutputFile=- $TMPFILE | $PDIR/z53 --config
 z53.conf --dotcounts
 20 else
 21 file -b $TMPFILE | grep -i PDF > /dev/null
 22 if [ $? -eq 0 ]
 23 gs -q -dNOPAUSE $GSPARMS -sDEVICE=ppmraw
-sOutputFile=- $TMPFILE | $PDIR/z53 --config
 z53.conf --dotcounts
 24else
 25 enscript -B -o - $TMPFILE | gs -q -dNOPAUSE
 $GSPARMS -sDEVICE=ppmraw -sOutputF ile=- -
   | $PDIR/z53 --output blackonly --config z53.conf --dotcounts
 26 fi
 27 fi
 28 /bin/rm -f $TMPFILE
 29 }
 30
 31
 32 runz53 2> /dev/null

Some of the lines are just too long to fit so they wrap around. But this
shouldn't cause us much confusion.
Let's walk through this program. First, the defined constants at the top,
lines 3,4,5.
Line 3 DEBUG = 0, may have no use, since it is not referred to elsewhere
in the script.
Line 4 PDIR simply points to where the lexmark software is installed.
Line 5 TMPFILE used by the mktemp command to generate a random name
for a file to hold the print job before it is filtered. This file is
needed only because this filter will handle pdf files, which need random
access to be properly processed. Text and postscript files could just
be piped.

Line 12 GSPARMS holds the ghostscript parameters based on what data the
user has given the lexmark setup program regarding paper size, resolution,
color vs black and white. At my current setting, echo $GSPARMS returns
 -r600 -g5100x6600

Line 32 The script begins here. Why they used a subroutine isn't obvious
to me, but maybe it helps to redirect errors to /dev/null. So, go to
line 14.

line 15: This simply puts the file sent to the print filter all in the
$TMPFILE. Note that standard input is assumed but the file is redirected
to $TMPFILE.
Lines 17 to 24 are repetitive, just checking to see if the file is
either PDF or Postscript. If neither is the case, then enscript is
invoked to produce a postscript file. Now, I have never had a problem
with a linux application sending a PDF file to my printer. Acrobat prints
in postscript. And, since enscript -Z doesn't convert postscript files,
these lines could all be just left out.

The gs command just converts a postscript file to a ppmraw format, which is
then piped to the lexmark supplied driver for this printer with the
appropriate parameters. Let's rewrite this thing:

 #!/bin/bash
 PDIR=/usr/local/lexmark/z53
 GSPARMS=`$PDIR/lxacgsparm z53.conf`
 enscript -ZB -o - | gs -q -dNOPAUSE $GSPARMS -sDEVICE=ppmraw \
   -sOutputFile=- - | $PDIR/z53 --config z53.conf
--dotcounts

Believe it or not, this works fine, both with text files and postscript
files, the only two types we expect to see coming to our printer. The
only problem might be the --output blackonly parameter which I left off
so I could get color printing. And, I am not sure where the errors are going
to be sent, if any. The -q parameter suppresses messages from gs.

Hi,

I ran into this problem with Win2K sp4. It wouldn't connect to a printer with a UNC
path. It would work with a captured LPT port.

Try that.

[Samba] using xcopy /O with Samba

2003-07-22 Thread Tom Dickson
Is it possible to copy ACLs from a Windows 2000 box to a Samba share and

Is there anyway to get the ACLs to Samba in some other way, and/or does
Samba 3.0 support this?

Sorry for all the questions.

Re: [Samba] pam_winbind.so

2003-07-22 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I think I've gotten a step closer. The entry in pam
'account sufficient pam_winbind.so' performs a
getpwnam() on the username. For some reason, it
doesn't seem to be going out the PDC to do this.

Is there a way to change this or get it to recognize
the PDC?

[Samba] Everyone group difference between ACL/no ACLs. (follow-up)

2003-07-22 Thread Tom Dickson
More questions! :)

By setting create mask = 0700 directory mask = 0700 directory security mask
= 0700 I get a sort-of-work around to the issue, but then I can't add the
Everyone group back in! The Everyone group will turn into CREATOR OWNER the
moment I hit "Apply." This creates the following output from getfacls:

# file: tdickson
# owner: tdickson
# group: root
user::rwx
group::---
other::---
default:user::rwx
default:group::---
default:other::---

I've also seen CREATOR GROUP - is this normal? I'm beginning to expect that
I'm going to have to go to Samba 3.0 to get this to work right.

[Samba] Offline Folders & Samba

2003-07-22 Thread jonlists
I've inherited a samba server providing file services to a group of
Windows XP workstations.

Samba is 2.2.7 -security-rollup-fix

security is user level.

I'm trying to configure the ability for the XP laptop users to use offline
folders. The folder will synchronize, but not fully. When the XP user
disconnects, the files are not accessible ("Access is denied" errors). I
resolved by chmod'ing the files to 777, although this still didn't take
care of all of them.

It does synchronize some of the files, but not all. If we go into windows
attribute, and change any of them, they will synchronize.

Questions:

- can someone confirm offline folders works with samba?
- what is the typical create mask on a folder set to?

- any configuration ideas are certainly welcome.

Thank you

[Samba] Everyone group difference between ACL/no ACLs.

2003-07-22 Thread Tom Dickson
Hello!

I'm running Samba 2.2.8a on top of a ext3 filesystem with ACLs enabled.
(kernel 2.4.20-gentoo-r2)

With ACLs disabled (i.e., mount /dev/hdd1 /mnt/floppy (no -o ACL)), the
Security box under windows 2000 works like I want it to with respect to the
Everyone group; If I want the Linux permissions to be, say, 770 (rwxrwx---),
I can select everyone and hit "Remove." The everyone group goes away, and
the Linux world permissions are set to --- or 0. This is what a Windows
administrator would expect, and group with no permissions doesn't appear in
the dialog. This also works for the Linux primary group.

However, if I enable ACLs (i.e., mount /dev/hdd1 /mnt/floppy -o ACL), then
the Security box works like it did with Samba 2.2.5 - the "Remove" button
does nothing. The everyone group pops right back up. I've done a debug level
10 dump, but it's all Greek to me (included below). If I try to remove the
primary group, the same symptoms occur.

If I manually (though Linux) change the permissions to 770, then the
Everyone group will not appear in the Security dialog.

Am I missing a simple config option?

Thank you!

You will get this if you have something like /persistent:no after the net use.
Win98 doesn't like that.

RE: [Samba] PANIC: failed to set gid

2003-07-22 Thread Jeanne Schock
Please see my post to the mailing list just yesterday on this very topic
with Subject "can't change user passwords from xp client machines."

I posted log excerpts with the same error, and my smb.conf.

No one has posted yet with any ideas as to what the problem is. I understand
that it used to work on my domain too some time ago, before I came on, but
it doesn't work now, and there has been no change to the smb.conf.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Thanks,

Jeanne Schock

[Samba] Restrict some directories in browse list

2003-07-22 Thread Miguel Koren O'Brien de Lacy
I have the problem of needing to hide some directories from the browse
list (Win98 clients) of some users (total of about 250). I am expecting
to create behaviour similar to the home directory where only the home
owner can see it. I would like to make some shares visible only to users
in a certain Unix group.

I have a share 'Automation' with a sub-directory structure and I use
Unix user and group rights to manage that. I would like 'Automation' to
be invisible to about 1/2 of the users (today they see it even though
they have no access). I am using 'hide unreadable' in the sahre and it
works great 'inside' the share but what I would like is to hide the
share itself.

I've searched around and found an idea of including conf files per user
or group (where I would define which shares appear) but this seems very
complex to manage on a daily basis with a large number of users. Is
there a better solution or would this be it?

Thanks

Re: [Samba] Samba 3B3 with LDAP

2003-07-22 Thread William234
Hello,

I am using OpenLDAP 2.1.22. To the best of my understanding, my server is
not set up as a replica. I don't know if there is a relevant section in
slapd.conf that you'd like to look at as most of it is just telling slapd where the
database goes, what the indexes should be and the basic configuration of the
schema's.

[Samba] Windows 98 logon server problem

2003-07-22 Thread Louis Nafziger
Anybody have any ideas about this?

Hi,

I have Samba version 2.2.7 up and running as a PDC for several
Windows 2000/XP clients, as well as file sharing working. However, when
I try to use it as a Win9X logon server, I can not seem to make it work.

Whenever I try to logon from the Win98 computer, I get the error
message "Incorrect Parameter" (in windows) and get the following message
in the nmbd.log file:

=-=-=
[2003/07/15 12:15:05, 1]
nmbd/nmbd_processlogon.c:process_logon_packet(69)
   process_logon_packet: Logon from 192.168.13.189: code = 0x0
=-=-=

I have the following lines (among others) in my smb.conf:

logon home = \\%L\home\%U\.profiles
netbios name = AIP-KY
workgroup = AIP-KY
security = user
encrypt passwords = yes
password level = 8
domain master = yes
preferred master = yes
domain logons = yes
logon script = logon.bat
logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U
logon home = \\%L\home\%U\.profiles

Please let me know if you need any more information!

[Samba] Samba 3B3 with LDAP

2003-07-22 Thread William234
Hello,

I have compiled Samba 3.0 Beta 3 and am attempting to get it to work with
LDAPSAM.

Whenever I run smbpasswd or pdbedit, I get the following output.

   sparc10:/etc/openldap# /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd -a bill
   New SMB password:
   Retype new SMB password:
failed to add user dn= uid=bill,ou=People with: Server is unwilling to
perform
referral missing
failed to modify/add user with uid = bill (dn = uid=bill,ou=People)
Failed to add entry for user bill.
Failed to modify password entry for user bill

To try to figure out what is causing this problem I have grep'd through the
source code looking for the error messages above, searched deja.com, and looked
through the archives of this list. I cannot find anything anywhere that
makes a reference to "referral missing" and as such have no idea where to go to
debug the problem.

Using DaveDAP, a PHP LDAP display / editing environment I am able to browse
the 4 entries in the LDAP server which are the initial entries needed to make
Samba work.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I am at a complete loss.

[Samba] PANIC: failed to set gid

2003-07-22 Thread Joseph
I have looked through the mailing lists for an answer to this. It would
seem that many people have had this problem, but no one has posted an
answer.

I have a Samba controlled domain with Windows 2000 Pro workstations. In the
past, users could use CTRL+ALT+DEL change password to change their domain
password. I'm not sure when it quit working, but it quit. I now get
"domain XXX not available." On the Samba server, the log shows:

[2003/07/22 13:14:16.379102, 0] lib/util_sec.c:assert_gid(114)
Failed to set gid privileges to (0,2060) now set to (2060,2060)
uid=(0,2060)
[2003/07/22 13:14:16.382020, 0] lib/util.c:smb_panic(1094)
  PANIC: failed to set gid

I can't find any reason why I'm getting this message. The configuration
file has not changed since I was able to get the password change to work.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Re: [Samba] Samba PDC

2003-07-22 Thread Mark Warner
Thanks, robowarp. I did not know that that particular Windows XP issue was
addressed in Samba 3.
However, as I said, the server is running Debian "Woody", which is Debian's
"stable" branch. As I do not wish to run "unstable" packages, I am sticking
with the Woody packaged version for this particular box, and the XP registry
fixes seem to work just fine.

Thanks,
Mark.

Re: [Samba] I've always HATED printing with Samba

2003-07-22 Thread Jim C

Hey.

By no means an expert, so just guessing. I sympathize with your hatred,
however :) . I do not have any experience with letting the Linux box worry
about the driver, so I don't know if I'll be of any help. I've always used
drivers on the Win side. If this is what you want to do, you may need to use
"use client driver = yes" in the section where the given printer is shared.

Tried this. I can get the driver to upload if I use Z52 drivers instead
of Z53. Supposedly they are 100% compatible on the Linux/Samba side but
I don't know about the differences between client side drivers. Anyway,
I can successfully add the printer this way but then can't get access to
it. I show these files in the /var/spool/samba directory but am not
sure if they are print jobs or drivers. Print jobs probably, but then
why don't they print?

[EMAIL PROTECTED] samba]#

I did try to do some printing as Administrator to try and get around the
access problem.
This is a Samba LDAP setup BTW but I doubt that this should matter.

Without this option, I _have_ been able to print from 9X and 2k machines,
however, under status the Win box will say "Access denied, unable to
connect". I do not have access to my config files as I am at work, but can
get them after 3:30pm today if you are still having problems. Something to
check would be the permissions on the "/var/spool/samba" directory and its
parent directories. I believe "samba" should be world writeable and the
sticky bit should be set on it. Parent directories should have execute flag
I believe they already are set:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] spool]# ls -l | grep samba
drwxrwxrwt2 root root 248 Jul 21 15:27 samba/
drwxrwxrwt2 root root 48 Jul 21 15:36 samba3/
[EMAIL PROTECTED] spool]#
Does the "t" represent the sticky bit?
Should I change the create mask?
. . . At least in a simple setup anyway. It looks like your doing something
with a bit more security (create mask=0700), however. I'll look into it a
bit more when I get home, as I am a bit lost without my box in front of me.
Good luck.

[Samba] samba 3 beta 3 smbfs

2003-07-22 Thread Beau E. Cox
Hi -

'mount.smbfs' in 3 beta 3 is _very_ eratic on my system.

I am trying to mount win2k machines (for daily backups)
on a Linux (SuSE 8.2) server. It is very hard to
explain exactly what happens, but the mount actually
works maybe 10% of the time. When it fails, I see
nothing in the samba logs, and don't seem to have a
smbfs log. Typically, when it fails, I can see the
mount daemon running, but trying to ls the mount point
'hangs'. umount clears the hang.

I have been upgrading and testing the samba 3 project
since the early alpha days W/O this problem. I cannot think of any system
changes between installing beta 2
(works) and beta 3. I have re-installed beta 2 and it
works.

Have I missed someing in the change log from b2->b3?
Anyone have any ideas?

[Samba] Groups not mapping correctly.

2003-07-22 Thread George Farris
Hello,

At one time I installed an alpha of samba-3.0 and it had a smbgroupedit
command that mapped unix and windows groups via webmin. This seems to
be missing in beta3, has it been depreciated?

Also I can't seem to get the group map to take effect unless the unix
group is the users primary group. Either that or I don't understand
something.

I do not have winbindd running or any idmap settings in my smb.conf file
as everything is local, I assume this is correct?

If I use "net groupmap" and map dadmin for example to "Domain Admins"
and set dadmin to the primary group of a user everything works fine.
If, however, I map "user" to "Users" and "pwruser" to "Power Users", set
"user" to be the primary group and also have the user be a secondary
member of pwruser, things don't work. The user never becomes a "Power
User".

I've installed samba on RH7.3 from a binary on the samba site.

Can someone please explain the function and flow of the group mapping,
much appreciated.

Re: [Samba] login script variable problem

2003-07-22 Thread Gémes Géza
The %U and %u variables are samba's not windows, but to generate desired
effect, you could use

net use driveletter: /home

in your login.bat

and

logon home = \\%L\%U\.profile
logon path = \\%L\Profiles\%U
in your global section of smb.conf

Good Luck!

Geza Gemes

Good morning. Let me start by thanking those of you who helped with my
first question posed to this group.
Now, I have a working PDC. This is wonderful. I have a problem with my
login script though. I can't seem get the %u or %U variable to work. I am
trying to map a drive letter via the login.bat script file for each user
that authenticates to the domain, however it seems to strip the % symbol
while running and gives an error that it can't find \\ntilinux\u

I am running Red Hat 8.0, Samba 2.2.8 and a W2K workstation.

Can anyone help? Thanks.

[Samba] Windows 2K roaming profiles

2003-07-22 Thread Sravan Kudithipudi
Hi all,
I have a problem regarding profiles.

One of the users had a widows 2k machine which he is using for a long time. I have
installed samba as the domain logon server with roaming profiles. The problem is when
the user logs on to the server, since he doent have a profile yet on the server, a
temporary profile is copied in the local machine when he logs on and sent to the
server. I dont want this behaviour as he already have lots of settings on his machine.

Is there anyway to disable roaming profiles on windows2k so that it will logon to the
server but will get local profiles instead..or a way to copy already existing profiles
to the server...

Thanks

[Samba] WIN NT 4.0 AND SAMBA

2003-07-22 Thread Kevin Smith
Do either NT 4.0 Sp6 or Samba 2.2.7a need any special config to get the NT
workstation to see the network?
What is happening is the DHCP service isn't activating, I suspect hardware
because even hard coding the IP doesn't work on the NT Box, I get Link and
100tx lights but no activity. I have set the workgroup, checked all
protocols ect.
I was just making sure I have the NT box set up correctly. I know the
network works because I have 3 other win 9x boxes and the samba server
working as perfectly as a network can .

What you need to remember is that Samba _by_default_ will enable the roaming
profile setting (logon path) and you must tell it not to. What I did on my
PDC is instead of commenting out the logon path directive I set it to
nothing, i.e.:

logon path =

It fixed my roaming profile issues.

Hope it helps...

Re: [Samba] Printing multiple copies

2003-07-22 Thread Matt Neimeyer

With XP Home, printing to a postscript printer on my linux box, the job is
sent as multiple, sequential postscript files, each file being just one
copy.
I don't know if this is a related phenomenon... but at work I had to
uncheck "collate" in the printer driver options to get things sent to the
printer as a single job. This was in Win98 and I did it simply to get my
duplicate copies (which we are required to print of some stuff) to stop
coming up with a seperate cover sheet.

I just noticed that the current swat in beta3 doesn's show the status of

[Samba] Disable roaming profiles samba-2.2.7a from RH8.0

2003-07-22 Thread Informazioni Darpha
I'm trying to definitely disable roaming profiles for my Windows 2000
clients. I've got a PDC with redhat 8 and samba-2.2.7a. To achieve this
I've commented out the line logon home & logon path. When I try to connect
a windows popup tell me that the system cannot reach the server's profile
and
goes locally. I've disable the same things on XP disabling some registry
keys,
but I cannot do that in Windows 2000.

Conflicting credentials; you may have another network connection to the
Linux server. Open a dos command window and delete all existing network
connections before you try to join the domain :
>NET USE * /DELETE

For the domain logon, what is your smb.conf listing, what is the error
message you are getting, and what operating system is on the Windows
machines?

Are you trying to join the domain as user root (required) and is root in
smbpasswd? Have you entered the windows machine in /etc/passwd and
smbpasswd?

I've had this problem with both XP Pro and Windows 2000 as well, but under
different circumstances. It was entirely related to CUPS when using the CUPS
driver as the problem was still present when bypassing Samba by printing to
CUPS using the IPP interface (a nice thing about that - one can easily
remove, or prove, Samba as a source of the problem). Creating raw printers on
the CUPS servers and using native Windows drivers cured the problem.
Right now I've tried a box with Win2K Professional SP4 + all the fixes
around ...
same problem!!! The box is RH6.2 with Samba 2.0.7, smb.conf doesn't define any
printing directive so it's RH default BSD as shown by testparm.
Using Win9x no problem at all.

It looks like your client is only sending one copy, since the single
copy and twelve copy print job are the same size.
When I send multiple copies with my print job, a pop up box on the screen
shows each job being sent. Do you see this?
No! But if I print from Acrobat Reader is see a popup where the system
say that the printing support only 1 print copy. Word or Excel doesn't show
anythink
One trick you might try is to remove the paper from your printer and
send a multiple copy print job. On my XP home box, the windows print
queue shows each individual print job or copy. If you used my print
command, you will see a nice file name, not the silly smbd name. So,
if I print two copies, two print jobs appear in the queue. (This is not
how it was in the old days when the postscript print file had the data
to print multiple copies.)
If you only see one print job, this would likely be a local configuration
problem on your XP home box.
This could be a problem, but why when connecting the printer to WinXP box
it print all the copies ?

Well, I have got to get to my day job. Good luck. I'll try to read my
email again in about 10 hours.

FW: [Samba] smbmount problem

2003-07-22 Thread Yair Naveh
Hi

Sorry about the misplaced Q

I tried to use a script that when user will logon to the machine he will
mount to smb mount (instead of fstab if it's problem)

I sow on several places the option to use on /etc/fstab this line
//server/share  /mnt/home smbfs   noauto,user 0 0
and I tried to put on script smbmount //server/share /mnt/home -o
username=$USER and get
libsmb based programs must *NOT* be setuid root
I changed the mod to smbmount to +s

any idea ???

Tank's a lot

Hy Yair
your Q is missplaced
i understand that your 50 users work on linuxboxes clients?? and mount from
server (previus nfs) with samba homes directories??
I dont understand why?
But this idea only work on one mount point that can mount only one user at
time. This can be mounted on boot but only one user rights will be used
(user logged to samba with options for smbfs) Or can be mount be login linux
client script then can aply users ruless but not can mount more as one at
time to one mount point /mnt/home.

Try write why and what you need solve.

If you need exactly mount one share for all users on boot then to fstab you
must write all needed parameters for this smbfs not user but
username=ACOUNT,password=PASS ... as writed on mount command -o switch
without spaces.

[Samba] Samba 3 - Can't create trusted domain account

2003-07-22 Thread Ganael LAPLANCHE
Hi !

I'm using Samba 3 - simple smbpasswd backend, no winbind.
I try to use interdomain trusts between (samba) domains TRUSTED and
TRUSTING.

I get an error while creating the TRUSTED domain account :
smbpasswd -D 10 -a -i TRUSTED
>Get_Pwnam_internals didn't find user [TRUSTED$]!
>Failed initialise SAM_ACCOUNT for user TRUSTED$.
>Failed to modify password entry for user TRUSTED$
Samba can't find the entry, isn't it supposed to CREATE it ? How can I do
that ?
Did someone manage to do it ?

Thank you,
Ganaël.

[Samba] W2K SP4, Samba 3.0.0beta2 and Profiles

2003-07-22 Thread MH - Entwicklung
Hello,

now I still have a problem with my Samba installation. Userprofiles don't work under

My smb.conf looks like this:

the profile directory looks like this:

In the logs I can see that W2K SP4 doesn't connect to the profiles share instead there
are some errors in the log (failed to do schannel processing, failed to decode PDU).

Logging off from the W2K workstation takes about 1 1/2 minutes. W2K writes the
following to the eventlog (german log):

=>

Samba is only logging that the connection to home share is closed:

[Samba] Samba 3beta2/3 with ldapsam as PDC dont advice itself

2003-07-22 Thread Jochen Schmidt
Hi,

i have a problem with samba3 (with ldapsam).
I've set up my samba3 beta2 (also tried beta3) as a pdc, but it seems that
samba does not anounce it's DOMAIN correctly. I don't see my JOCHENGROUP
Domain from any Windows-Workstation.
I can search for the name of my PDC using the 'Search Computer' Function
and Windows will find it. I can doubleclick the PDC and login using the
created testusers and browse the shares. This seems to be ok.

The thing which won't work is the PDC functionality of samba.
Samba as standalonefileserver seems to work fine.

Environment:

- Samba3 on RedHat AS2.1 (self-compiled) with external WINS
- Samba3 on RedHat AS2.1 (self-compiled) with internal WINS (isolated network)
- Samba3 on RedHat 7.3 (self-compiled) with internal WINS (isolated network)
- Samba3 on RedHat 7.3 (pre-comiled) with internal WINS (isolated network)

isolated network meens no changes to the Machines only cut the
uplink-cable to the rest of the network.

I think it is an ldap-Problem, but i can't find anything.
I've attached my Samba-Config an ldif-File from my Ldap (eDirectory
8.7.0.3 on Linux) and the converted edir samba-Schema for beta2 and beta3
as ldif.

Does anyone has a hint for me how to solve my problem (I've searched the
ML and it seems that i'm the only one with this problem).

thanks,

Jochen

[Samba] settings for Samba with Win2k and Win98 MYOB users.

2003-07-22 Thread Anthony Carmody
Hi,

I have Samba all set-up and working on a clients network, but i want to
tweak things so that in one 'share' the users can open files and write to
them at the same time. [they are using MYOB an accounting package]

some are using win98 machines with no passwords set, and one has XP pro. XP
seems to forget the password set to the share upon disconnection. very
annoying as this does not happen with win2k and 98 that i can see. anyone
got any tips? mail me directly please.

requiresignorseal = 0
signsecurechannel = 0

This is required for win XP.

Re: [Samba] Printing multiple copies

2003-07-22 Thread Joel Hammer
I don't know much about BSD printing.

It looks like your client is only sending one copy, since the single
copy and twelve copy print job are the same size.

When I send multiple copies with my print job, a pop up box on the screen
shows each job being sent. Do you see this?

One trick you might try is to remove the paper from your printer and
send a multiple copy print job. On my XP home box, the windows print
queue shows each individual print job or copy. If you used my print
command, you will see a nice file name, not the silly smbd name. So,
if I print two copies, two print jobs appear in the queue. (This is not
how it was in the old days when the postscript print file had the data
to print multiple copies.)

If you only see one print job, this would likely be a local configuration
problem on your XP home box.

Well, I have got to get to my day job. Good luck. I'll try to read my
email again in about 10 hours.

Joel

[Samba] Vijay - Win2K Domain controller need to connect to Sambabox !!!

2003-07-22 Thread Vijay Kumar
Hi,

Firstly I am exteremely thankfull to you for trying to help me out with the
samba problems.
I really appreciate your email. Thank you once again !!
I had to leave this a bit in between as some things cropped up in between.

Below is what I have did to connect to the Samba server from the Windows
2000 Domain controller.

a) in /etc/resolv.onf - domain : in.edapter.com
b) / in /etc/sysconfig/network, changed teh fwdn of the machine to
cvsbkup.in.edapter.com
c) disabled the interfaces and bind only form the smb.conf
d) smbclient -L localhost - no problem .
smbclient -L cvsbkup - no problem.
smbclinet -L NTSERVER - no problem ( this is just another NT domain
controller on the network )
smbclient -L x.x.x.x - no problem ( This is another win2K
Domain controller )
smbclient -L y.y.y.y - yes problem - This is the actual
Win2K domain controller which needs to connect to the

Linux samba box )

Note : I have not tried giving passwords anywhere above .

Now the file is as under.

Before doing these changes , I was able to access this from another windows
machine which was in "Workgroup".
Now I get a Access denied error.. Below is the error.log file which was
generated after the machine tried to connect to the linux box.

a) I am just going crazy - I am unable to connect to a linux samba box from
a Win2K Domain controller .
This is all I need.
b) Also I have done smbpasswd on the linuxbox.
Now when I do smbcleint -L localhost 192.168.0.229 and I give the passwd
of this username , I still get
NT_LOGON_FAILURE. message. Why is this happenning ? I have shared the
.smbshare directoru for the same user.

Please help,
regards,
Vijay.

Hmm, don't know exactly but it simply seems your installed Samba does

I can't remember exactly at the moment, but you will most probably need
the ldap-development package(s) be installed when compiling Samba.
(Otherwise it will probably compile and produce .deb-packages correctly

Hi.

I posted last week a question about a network with some XP PCs.
One PC connects fine to the samba server, but the other one
is quite slow, almost unusable. There are also Win98 hosts
running fine.
Someone kindly answered he had the same problem, and solved it
upgrading to samba-3 beta. I can't put beta software on this
server.
Do I have any other option ?

Here is an extract of the smb.conf file:

[global]
   socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
   local master = no
   domain master = no
   preferred master = no
   dns proxy = no
All the other is set by default.

Thank you for your time.

Hasn't accidentaly the slow XP machine got multiple network interfaces?,
check with ipconfig /all in a command prompt, I've had that problem with
a software wich created virtual network interfaces, and the XP's SMB
code wants to check all of them before giving any answer.

Good Luck!

Well, I just tried an experiment.

With XP Home, printing to a postscript printer on my linux box, the job is

not one job consisting of multiple copies. This is different from what I

printable = Yes
printing = lprng
print command = echo %J %p %s >> /tmp/junkJ;\

   echo This is truncated $a >> /tmp/junkJ;\
   /usr/bin/lpr -Pps -J"$a" %s;\
rm %s
lpq command = /usr/bin/lpq -Pps
lprm command = /usr/bin/lprm -Pps %j
lppause command = /usr/sbin/lpc hold ps %j
lpresume command = /usr/sbin/lpc release ps %j

That long print command captures the smb job name (%s) so I can see
what really is going on (whether one or multiple jobs get sent). And,
it captures the file name sent from windows (%J). The file name is
truncated to remove a Microsoft prefix sent with each filename.

If you have cups, I can't offer anymore advice. With cups you can't ( I
think) change the print commands in smb.conf. Although, there must be a way
to change the print commands in cups elsewhere.

AFAIK samba only knows simple auth with TLS.
Maybe I'm just too paranoid, but the idea of putting the rootdn password in the

Consider not using rootdn for your binddn, set up a dedicated manager

[Samba] Swat not authenticating root but other users work (PAMProblem?)

2003-07-22 Thread MH - Entwicklung
Hello,

I've got a little problem with Samba 3.0.0beta2-1 on Debian/unstable.
SWAT cannot authenticate the user root. In auth.log I see the following entry:

Jul 22 10:09:59 samba samba(pam_unix)[3709]: authentication failure; logname= uid=0
euid=0 tty=samba ruser= rhost=0.0.0.0  user=root

This only happens to the user root. All other users can use SWAT. Maybe this is a PAM
configuration problem?

Any ideas ?

Yes I know. My Win PC connected to this box are Win95&Win98 and no problem
