I didn't need to make extra configuration because RH installer did everything for me as I guess. What I want to achive is setup the print server. I added to CUPS all printers in my network, which works with JetDirect protocol. I added it loged in as a root, and in this session when I want to print a test page it works without any problems. Problems starts while I try to use the printers in Windows 2000. When I tape in explorer \\computer_ip I can see all the printeres that are isntalled in linux, without any login message. When I try to add printers from Control Panel\Add printer menu and I choose network printer and type computer IP, there doesn't appear any list with all printers. To add printer I must type \\computer_IP\printer_name . How can I fix it? After choosing printer windows says that there are no good drivers in the host and I should choose drivers manualy. How can I make the drivers install automatically from samba server? Finally when I add the printer I can see that the Printer status is OK, the printer is connected etc.. BUT I cannot print even a test page but in linux I can print anything I want in the same printer. What can be a problem? [Samba] server can't find itself
I am running samba 2.2.8 on Red hat 7.1 and the problem that I am having is that the server can't see itself. It can the client without any problem but the neither the client or the server can see the server. My server name is linux and this is the response when I run the following commands: smbclient -L linux session request to linux failed (not listening for calling name) nmblookup -B 192.168.1.255 linuxname_query failed to find name linux but when I run the command, nmblookup -A linux, I get linux 00, 03, 20 active and workgroup active. Re: [Samba] Re: Finally winbind on RH9 working, but why ?
I have some new information on getent group not showing the groups in samba 2.2.8a on Redhat 9. in the client log on teh samba PDC I get [2003/08/06 09:47:47, 0] rpc_server/srv_samr_nt.c:_samr_open_group(2766) _samr_open_group: Not yet implemented. [2003/08/06 09:47:47, 0] rpc_server/srv_samr_nt.c:_samr_open_group(2766) _samr_open_group: Not yet implemented. every time I do 'getent group' I looked up the code in the source and guess what, it's : /* _samr_open_group */ NTSTATUS _samr_open_group(pipes_struct *p, SAMR_Q_OPEN_GROUP *q_u, SAMR_R_OPEN_GROUP *r_u) { DEBUG(0,("_samr_open_group: Not yet implemented.\n")); return NT_STATUS_NOT_IMPLEMENTED; } so it makes sense... HOWEVER there are numerous people for who 'getent group' apparently DOES work, so I have no idea why this call is in fact executed in my case. Probable he takes a wrong turn somewhere I am trying to trace back the call to find that wrong turn, but if anyone can give me a hint here please do, it's a big ... Jo De Baer Maybe I'll rephrase it shorter : 1) eventhough 'wbinfo -g' gives me the correct groups, they do nots how up when I go 'getent group'. Can it be the spaces in the Samba groups 'Domain Admins' and 'Domain Users'? Where is the information about these groups stored on the Samba pdc? 2) I only get winbind to do it's job (which is connecting to a local share on the domain member with a winbind user) when I a) set the parameter 'winbind cache timeout = 0' OR b) create the user locally on the domain member, which is of course what we try to avoid by using winbind... any idea's why playing with the cache timeout causes a difference? [Samba] File/Directory permissions
Hello, I'd like to ask for help on some Netware to Linux TRANSITION issues. Under Novell Netware, AUTHORIZED users can see ONLY the folders/directories they are allowed to see, whether or not they created them or not. I'm at a loss as to how to implement this under Linux+Samba-2.2.8a. I don't want the (ordinary) users to see all the directories that are under the /DATA directory. Yes, with my current setup they CAN'T enter the directories or view their contents if they're not given permission, but they shouldn't even see the directory names in the first place so they won't bother TRYING to ENTER and then end up getting frustrated by the "ACCESS DENIED" responses. How do I go about this? I hope that making individual Samba SHAREs for each allowed folder is NOT the ONLY solution, because I have too many of those folders to fit the ENGLISH ALPHABET (driver letters). Interestingly enough, using Debian woody (3.0) with Samba 3beta3 self compiled, plus some blood, sweat, and a whole lot of tears, a few other packages back ported or self-packaged... It worked fine once I added the user/machine to the ou=Machines tree (as above). The next step is to see if I can get Samba to autoadd machines to the domain on demand. I think I'll have to use a custom script which inserts a custom ldiff into the machines tree, modified with the machine name. Should be a pretty straight forward awk+base or perl script. Oh, on one other side note, why do you need a posix/unix account for a machine? It never "accesses" files on the server.. or does it?
