Hi again,

I've solved my problem: I was using smbpasswd, because I just migrated
to Samba 3.0. After I converted my password databse to tdbsam, the full
name and the description field in usrmgr are handled correctly. Even if
the GECOS field is still a dummy entry, I could change it with a script
that parses the output of pdbedit -L. But this is not needed at the
moment.

[Samba] OS X unable to determine free space

2004-08-29 Thread Vin
I have a Debian Linux machine running a Samba server. When I connect to
it using a windows XP machine, everything seems fine. I can create and
delete files from my home share, etc. The free space on the share
appears correctly as the overall free space of the partition that share
is on in the server. However, when I connect using OS X, it always says
0 free space. If I try and create a file, it succeeds, so long as the
app trying to create the files, does not check to see if there will be
enough space on the device first.

I'm not sure if OS X is at fault or Samba, or more accurately, my
configuration of one or the other.

Anyone have any advice on this one?
Thanks,

[Samba] PDC LDAP- user can't log in

2004-08-29 Thread Debian User
Hello,

I'm trying to configure a Debian woody with samba 3.0.5 and ldap from
www.backports.org. I managed to get to the point where I created a user
with
smbldap-adduser -m -a
smbldap-passwd
smbpasswd
I can log into the server with this user and smbclient
//server/user -Uuser%pass works as expected.
The WinXP is able to join the domain and the machine account gets created in ldap.
But I can't log in, it refuses my user.
I can't find anything wrong in the logs.

Can somebody help ?

Thanks

[Samba] Compters not logging in ...

2004-08-29 Thread C.Lee Taylor
Greetings ...
I have an FC1 installation with all the updates. I have a few of
these, but one of my installations has just freaked out. None of my
users can login.

I have tried ...
[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# smbclient -L //richardsbay -N
protocol negotiation failed
Which is odd. I have never has this problem. I have tried upgrading
samba from the 3.0.2 to 3.0.6 which is the dev of RawHide with no
difference.

I have tried turning off all security options to see if an upgrade of
the Win2K system could have done this, but I'm still getting nowhere.

What is got me, is the smbclient will not even list the samba server.
Could I ask for a little help with this.
Thanks

Do you mean so that it will not show up as a server in the domain - and when they click on it (currently) they find no shares offered? I think that is about as stealth as you can get it since it is

This comes up in school environments a lot, but due to the way the
protocol works, it's actually quite hard to get right.

There is a proposed patch to Samba 3.0 (posted to samba-technical) that
would allow students to login once only, and then be banned until their
account is reset, but that's a different problem.

[Samba] Disable multiple login to domain

2004-08-29 Thread JG Nasser Olwero
I run RH Linux 7.3 and Samba 2.2.3 as a PDC.

I have about 30 Win 98 clients loggin onto the Samba domain. I would
like to disable multiple logins so that a user may only login to one
client machine at a time and therefore not hold more than one computer
concurrently. Is this possible with my version of samba? If so, how do
I implement this?

Kind regards
