I think it's winbind cache problem.
Try to set
winbind cache time = 10
on your global conf and restart.
winbind cache reply from ad server for only 10 seconds.
If your ad is a forest with multidomain the situation is different, the gc
cache reply from other domains and i don't know how to solve this. Is my
problem.

Yes, I tried that once, but could not even logon to those shares.
That was when I had the old redhat box as server. Could try this
new Ubunutu machine.

My worry was that samba and nfs would respect each other's file
locking. Do you know whether they do or do not respect each
other's file locks?

I have been away a couple days and there has been no log activity
that I can see. Will keep watching it.

Thanks, Gary!

That's not neccessarily true as I'm sure you know :-).

Use a network sniffer to capture packets if you think
something is wrong. Look for TCP retransmissions and
timeouts and dropped packets.

Any hints of a software/method to check the network? Many users use to say to
me that if they can browse a page (any page in the world), the Windows network
have to work too.

I have some problems at work that makes think that something is going bad in

Hi all,

We are using Samba to mount remote Windows share.
Would like to have the automatic unmount of remote share when:

1. Remote host is unavailable
2. Remote share is deleted.
3. Remote share authentication details changes.

In short theere should be a heartbeat kind of solutions which monitors the
remote host credentials.

That means the client failed to reply to the break request.
Usually means a network or client driver/software problem.

Get a network trace to be sure.

How do you know there are no problems in the network - have
you done a trace ?

People have this wonderful faith in their networks. I remember
feeling the same until I consistently had ssh sessions fail in
the middle of a multi-gigabyte transfer. Replacing the switch
with a more expensive one fixed the problem. Most cheap networking
hardware is junk.

I'm in a similar boat, but a little bit worse: in my lab, we have to

Hi Jonathan

Do You have ipp printing installed on your windows server? If so you
should be able to use the windows server as ipp server specified in
/etc/cups/client.conf

[Samba] valid-users still not work in 3.0.23a

2006-07-30 Thread Andreas Sachs
Hello,
i was using the debian version of samba 3.0.14a. Everything works fine. Then I
upgraded to 3.0.23 because of Windows Visa support. After that upgrade shares
with "valid users" could not be accessed. So I waited for 3.0.23a and upgraded
to this version. The problem still exists. The following message is in the log:
User andi not in 'valid users'.

Settings:

security = user
passdb backend = tdbsam
username map =  /var/lib/samba/users.map

...

[dokumente]
comment = dokumente
path = /home/dokumente
valid users = andi,root
public = no
browseable = yes
read only=no
force user = dokumente

Can anybody reproduce this problem or is something wrong with my configuration?

Thanks

I think so. I print regularly from Win
with Linux printer, and I'm able in effect
to print from Win with Linux printer.
I configured my printer in CUPS
as usual. Or there is a trick, to let
the printer be seen in the right place
in Windows?

Thanx
M.

[Samba] smbclient seg. fault

2006-07-30 Thread Sergei Antonov

Hi!
I have a segmentation fault in smbclient from samba-3.0.23a. Please, help me.

Here is my /etc/samba/smb.conf:

[global]
workgroup = WRK
netbios name = LINUX

[tmp]
comment = files
path = /tmp
read only = yes

Here is the commands and their output:

smbclient -d 3 -N -L windows

lp_load: refreshing parameters
Initialising global parameters
params.c:pm_process() - Processing configuration file "/etc/samba/smb.conf"
Processing section "[global]"
added interface ip=10.0.6.200 bcast=10.0.6.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
Client started (version 3.0.23a).
Connecting to 10.0.6.199 at port 445
Doing spnego session setup (blob length=46)
Segmentation fault

All commands are executed as a root. In the last command I enter
root's password.
Computer 'windows' runs Vista and is in the same workgroup 'WRK'. The
command 'nmblookup windows' finds this computer on the network.

[Samba] Printer settings don't stick

2006-07-30 Thread Stephen Thomas

Experienced programmer, Samba noob, CUPS noob; trying to use Ubuntu
6.06 Server as a print server for Windows XP clients on a home LAN.
Worked through the Howto and got point-and-print to work for my Canon
iP1200 (raw CUPS queue, and I used the Windows XP Add Printer Wizard
to upload the driver to the print$ share).

However, I can't persuade the printer driver to change the ink
cartridge mode from "auto-detect" (which is clearly not going to work,
given that Samba/CUPS provides no return data path from the printer
back to the client) to "black + color". The dropdown menu stubbornly
remains on "auto-detect", and print jobs are always prepared for color
cartridge only. I can change from portrait to landscape and back with
no problems.

Also, whenever the printer properties dialog is open, responses to
clicks in it are very very slow, and ethereal shows me a stupidly huge
amount of DCERPC request/response traffic between the XP box and Samba
(hundreds per second, with the same small set duplicated).

Questions for those kindly disposed to noobs:

1. Does ntforms.tdb only store certain standard settings (page size,
orientation, whatever) or can it hold anything a Windows printer
driver cares to throw at it?

2. Do I need to make ntforms.tdb writable by anybody other than root
(for example, should I set it to root:lpadmin rwxrwxr-x like the
directory where print$ is mapped)?

3. Is that amount of DCERPC traffic normal, or is this likely to be a
bonehead Windows driver trying over and over again to read some kind
of status data back from the printer?

4. Where should I be looking to find out how to decipher the DCERPC traffic?

Thanks for any insights - Stephen
