http://eduardosachs.org/mediawiki/index.php?title=Heimdal_Kerberos_%2B_Samba_PDC_%2B_OpenLDAP_%2B_Squid_no_Debian_Etch

But, it's only portuguese :(

Hmmm...

AFAIK this setup serves well with samba clients connecting to samba servers. Windows
clients joined to the domain don't seem to benefit from this kind of setup.

¿Am I ok?

Thanks

[Samba] unable to write to a share

2008-03-14 Thread Yvan Vander Sanden
Hi.

I moved my samba installation to another server yesterday because the
old one had a hardware issue. Since then, users can read their home
directories, but get a message like 'parts of this file are already
accessed by another program' when they try to save something on the
share. (The actual error message is in dutch, so this is a rough
translation. It's error code 33, but i cannot find an English equivalent
either.)

The smb.conf file is the same as the one on the old server. This is the
definition of [homes]:

[homes]
comment = %U's Home Directory
valid users = %S
read only = No
create mask = 0664
directory mask = 0775

I'm quite sure the users' rights on their homedir are ok, because if I
su to a user I can write something in his home directory from a Linux
console. It is even possible to write to the share if I make a samba
connection from a Linux machine with nautilus.

Only when using windows, i get the error message, and nothing is saved.
I can make an empty text document though. It gets saved on the server.
But when I open it and try to save it with even only one character in
it, it won't work.

I hope someone has any idea of what is happening here. Thanks for
reading anyway.

[Samba] Problems with Samba

2008-03-14 Thread onkel_e
Hi,

I administrate a server (debian etch) on which runs samba, version 3.0.24-6et.
Everything worked fine until today. I tried to logon on the server via a
clientmachine (win2k, winxp), but i got an error, System cannot logon because
domain not reachable. (it is possible to ping the server and to establish a
shortcut (to logon) to the server - that works). I have no idea what happens.
The logfiles of smbd, nmbd are ok to mind, there is no advise for an error
(..startet...becomes_domain_controller etc.). I already tested my
sambaconfiguration via testparm, no problems. A simple restart of sambe didn't
help too. testparm also shows the right name for the workgroup etc. Does anyone
have an idea, where the problem could be?

The last changes i did on the server where updates via aptitude.

thanks
Edgar

Volker There is no limit in the number of shares Samba can serve.
Volker If you list them all in smb.conf, you will however see
Volker increased memory usage, because all share definitions are
Volker loaded individually in all smbd processes. A single share

Volker that). So multiply the number of shares defined with the
Volker number of concurrent clients and you might see some memory
Volker footprint.

Thanks, but I don't think it is going to meet my needs. I see no way
to define 'hosts allow' or 'valid users' for a user share. I know I
could use a template but that wouldn't allow me to change it for
different shares.

It was a little tricky defining the shares. Apparently, you can't
define an ACL without a comment and defining the ACL didn't work as I
expected.

net usershare add archive /localdisk/software/archive test
'AMERICASE\boehm:F,AMERICASE\julieb:R'

net usershare info
[archive]
path=/localdisk/software/archive
comment=test
usershare_acl=Unix User\boehm:F,Unix User\julieb:R
guest_ok=n

I wasn't expecting 'Unix User\boehm'. Looking at net_usershare.c, it
looks like I am expected to provide an SID for the user. I don't
normally run winbindd.

I guess I will just have to live with the overhead.

What would happen if I created the usershare data file manually
instead of using the 'net usershare add' command? For example, adding
'hosts allow' or 'valid users' to the file created by the 'net
usershare add' command?

Volker So if you want to go REALLY large, in the order of
Volker thousands, you might want to look at the user shares. If
Volker the configuration options you can set in the user shares
Volker are sufficient for your needs, then these are much more
Volker memory-efficient because the definitions are only loaded
Volker in smbd on demand.

[Samba] Roaming profile works for all users except one

2008-03-14 Thread Alex Strasheim
I've inherited a small office network I didn't build. We're running
Novell's eDirectory, and using Samba as a PDC.

Everyone's profile roams but mine.

I didn't build our smb.conf file, but I've read tutorials on roaming
profiles, and it seems to be set up correctly. I've included the text
of that file at the end of this message.

I bungled creating my account in eDirectory, deleted it, and recreated
it with the same name. In particular, I didn't have the profile
directory set up properly the first time I tried to login. I don't
know if that could have caused problems. My account seems to be set
up like the older ones now.

Also, logon.bat doesn't seem to run for me. I end up with the X:
drive mapped, but logon.bat sets up other shares for every other user
that I don't get. I see a command prompt window flash by on the
screen when I start, but it doesn't work. I tried to put a pause in
logon.bat, to stop the command prompt, but it flashed by just the
same.

I'm really puzzled by this. Everything I've read suggests that the
action happens in smb.conf, which doesn't differentiate between users
-- so I don't understand how I could manage to break it for one
account.

Anyway, here is my smb.conf -- we had a lot of comments from the
example file, which I've removed for brevity.

Thanks in advance.

No, there's no way to have hosts allow in the usershare

Valid users should be possible. If you have local users, you
can use S-1-22-1-uid or S-1-22-2-gid.

[Samba] 3.0.28, symlinks, vmware windows

I am still having a problem which I am unsure of in regards to the
following configuration:

Linux Gentoo-x86
Samba 3.0.28
VMware (Windows XP virtual machine)
Symlink to users home directory

I am not sure what information I would need to post for assistance in
resolving this issue but here is a short list of things I have tried
thus far to remedy:

Tested /tmp as share root folder (works)
Symlink for share root folder ie. /tmp/desktop - /home/username/Desktop
(doesn't work)

Set permissions for /tmp/desktop symlink to 0777 (doesn't work)
Set permissions on /tmp to 0777 (doesn't work)

Any help, pointers etc. is appreciated. Thanks.

I can access the tmp share and the Printer share. This tells me that there
is not an issue finding the Samba server.

Permissions on Intranet share (/var/www/html):

I cleared out the samba log for my machine. Then I tried to access the
Intranet share. It asked for username and password which, of course,
failed. Here's the contents of the log after that attempt.

Then, looking through Webmin at the connections, I see this:

Which also coincides with the appearance of the Printers share which is not
visible when I first open Custer through Network Neighborhood.

Is this an old problem that I'm supposed to find the answer in an obvious
place, or has it stumped everyone out there?

 Running FC6 and Samba 3.0.24-11.fc6.
 Workstation is XP Pro

Initially, after disabling SELinux and turning off Iptables,
I could access the shares that were set up. Came in this
morning ready to start copying files and can't get in.
Prompts me for a username and password which is rejected. I
know it's not my workstation because I have another FC6/Samba
server running and have no problem getting to it. Here's
 what else I know:

 1. Samba log for my machine shows no errors. In fact, shows
 me as connected.

 2. Viewing connections to Samba through Webmin shows me as connected.

 3. Testing from the console connects me.

 smbclient //Custer/ccarpenter -U ccarpenter
 Password:
 Domain=[HCCMHMRC] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.24-11.fc6]
 smb: \

 4. From the DOS prompt on my workstation, I can ping the
Samba server by name. When I do a net view \\Custer it shows
the shares. When I do net use
m: \\Custer\Intranet it prompts me for a username and
 password and then fails.

I have added user=ccarpenter to the share--no effect. As far
as I know, I didn't make any changes to Samba

Re: [Samba] Cannot disable roaming profile in smb.conf

2008-03-14 Thread Cesar Amaya

I have a Samba-LDAP PDC and I cannot disable the roaming profile
feature in trough my smb.conf file.

The way to disable roaming profiles is to set logon home and logon
path to an empty value. It looks like you have that, so it looks okay
to me. Have you tried setting them as

logon home = instead of
logon home =

What is the output of testparm -sv 2/dev/null | grep logon

This is the output
amecc01pdc01# testparm -sv | grep logon
Load smb config files from /usr/local/etc/smb.conf
Processing section [homes]
Processing section [netlogon]
Processing section [Profiles]
Processing section [public]
Loaded services file OK.
Server role: ROLE_DOMAIN_PDC
   logon script = logon.bat
   logon path =
   logon drive =
   logon home =
   domain logons = Yes
   winbind offline logon = No
[netlogon]
   path = /home/samba/netlogon/

I put logon path = because that´s the way man pages of smb.conf says
to put it in order to disable this option.

Thank you very much.
Regards!!!

[Samba] log output and browse list problem

2008-03-14 Thread Wes Deviers
Samba List:

I have a multisite setup connected via T1/VPN. Each site has it's own
SMB server (Debian 4.1) and between 6 and 70 PCs connected to it at a
time. Each is a PDC for it's respective site, on different domain names.
Any given site may have to access files stored on a different site's
server, so SMB traffic is allowed between locations.

We've had a problem for a while now where the browse list on PCs never
expires old entries. For instance, one of the IT employees had a testing
workgroup set up that still appears in the browse list 8 months after
he's left. We've tried the turn everything off suggestion but it's 1)
hard to know if we really got *everything* off; we're a bit of a 24/7
operation and 2) a minor problem, so we haven't dedicated that much time
to figuring it out.

One of the servers sporadically has a weird log entry, though, and I
think it might be related. Once or twice a week, the log output looks like:

nmbd/nmbd_synclists.c:complete_sync(284) sync with DELETEME(0.0.0.0) for

I've seen similar behaviour before, always after an upgrade (it seems
more common when upgrading a 32bit OS to a 64 bit, IIRC). My fix was to
export the tdb to smbpasswd, and reimport. That seems to fix it pretty
consistently.

[Samba] Extended Error 161 Using a WIndows 98 client with a Samba share

2008-03-14 Thread Darrell A. Sullivan, II
When executing a directory listing in Windows 98 from the command line on a
Samba share for a directory I am receiving the following output:

Volume in drive K is E-DRIVE
 Directory of K:\files\1690

. DIR03-14-08 8:03a .
.. DIR03-14-08 8:12a ..Extended Error 161

Using an application to try to copy a file to that directory I get an
Access Denied error.

I have checked the permissions on the directory and they appear to be
correct.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what Extended Error 161 refers to. I
performed a Google search on it and only received 1 hit in Chinese on a
forum and the question asked there had no response.

Re: [Samba] Get logged on username (several sessions on the same machine)

2008-03-14 Thread Kurthermal
I'm aware that the fact connections aren't while the should is a client
issue (let's say due to a finger press on the reset switch). I also know
that it can possible that multiple users have a session open from the
same machine (let's say a Linux box where Alice and Bob are connected
with SSH and where they smbmount some ressources on a Samba Server).
I now understand that there is no really a way to do what I want only
with Samba, and that this is due to pure logic and SMB/CIFS
specifications (if I'm wrong, please correct me).

root preexec option in [netlogon] resource definition helps me now to
get the real name of the connected user (since in my case only one
person can use a workstation).

Note that I see more than one execution of root preexec in one logon,
as if client opens/closes/opens/closes/opens netlogon share from 2 to
4 times in its logon procedure...

Thanks for your answer, cheers.
K.

didn't close cleanly the network resources.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough. I wasn't attempting to explain your
circumstance. I was trying to state a general design principal using a
kind of Socratic method.

Windows workstations are notorious for not bothering to signal goodbye.
There are MS KB articles about fine tuning Windows servers to avoid
exhausting resources because the workstations are like that. It's not a
samba issue, it's a windows issue. I only tried to explain why it is
the way it is because you used the bug word.

There has been a samba option for forever (since at least 1.x or beta)

deadtime = minutes

just so the sessions don't hang around forever. I never tried setting
it to 1 min., but you could experiment. But it doesn't work if an
application forgets to close a file or release a lock..

I never tried it, but it should be possible to script something with the
root preexec if this is really an issue for you. But be warned -
there are legitimate reasons multiple users can be logged on to a samba
machine at the same time.

For example. My wife is logged on a widows machine. I connect with
remote desktop.

Samba version 3.0.28-0.1.95-1624-SUSE-SL10.3
PID Username Group Machine

 7339 ranger1$ machine 192.168.202.35 (192.168.202.35)

There's nothing I know of to readily distinguish your circumstance from
this circumstance other than quiescence on the connection for a period
of time.

Doug

Is there a way to get samba close all connections from a machine if
another user try to open a new network resource from that machine ?

Or is there another way to get the currently active session on a PDC
client ?

Am I the only one to have noticed this behaviour ?
Do I have to report a bug or so ?
Where can I get some answers ?

If a service was running as a prior user and needed network resources
from the samba server in addition to the currently logged on user,
wouldn't it be wrong to make the assumption those resources should no
longer be available?

It only takes one exception to break a general case.

[Samba] several servers, one xp box

2008-03-14 Thread george lockwood

i'm setting up some older boxes i have for repetitive processing
of files sent from an xp box. the older boxes are linux and set
up running mandriva 2007.1 spring, each with samba 3.0.24
server running. i also have a macpro in this small network. the
macpro has no problem logging in to all of the samba boxes at
the same time. xp (home) can only see one at a time though.
if i turn on the xp box it seems to randsomly select which of the
samba boxes it will choose to have accessible.

each of the samba boxes has a name like 'processing-01',
each numbered sequentially so each is unique. as i say, this
all seems to work fine from the mac.

if i only turn on one samba box at a time i have no problem
seeing each. it's when there's more than one on at a time
that i realize i can only see one. in other words, each samba
box is accessible to xp, but only if it is the only samba box on
the network

i can only ping the first samba box, processing-01. the others
all time out.

please help. let me know what other info might be useful in
trying to get the xp side running as smoothely as the mac side
does.

thanks,
BabaG

Re: [Samba] msdfs root -- client error refers to a location that isunavailable

2008-03-14 Thread Paul B. Henson

I still haven't been able to figure this out; and haven't seen any
responses to my inquiry. One of my colleagues wanted to host the Dfs root
on an actual Windows server, which seems to work fine. I was hoping to keep
an all Samba solution, but I guess I will have to let him have his way.

Clearly samba Dfs root support works for some people; it is rather
frustrating that it's not working here for no apparent reason.

On Tue, 11 Mar 2008, Paul B. Henson wrote:

I'm trying to get Samba 3.0.28 to work as an MS Dfs root providing a
share that links home directories to the actual servers they reside on.

Unfortunately, when I access the share from a Windows XP client, and try
to open one of the directories, the client gives an error that it refers
to a location that is unavailable.

I've done a lot of searching, and found a number of similar issues
raised, but sadly no real resolutions.

Samba was attached to our active directory domain with net ads join,
which worked perfectly and authentication seems fine.

 My configuration is as follows:

 -
 [global]
 allow trusted domains = no
 deadtime = 10
 debug pid = yes
 disable netbios = yes
 lanman auth = no
 load printers = no
 log level = 1
 map archive = no
 name resolve order = host
 passdb backend = tdbsam
 realm = WIN.CSUPOMONA.EDU
 restrict anonymous = 2
 security = ads
 server signing = auto
show add printer wizard = no
 smb ports = 445
 workgroup = WIN
 max log size = 512000

 [user]
 msdfs root = yes
 path = /var/lib/samba/shares/user
 -

I'm only running smbd, not nmbd, as I don't want to use NetBIOS naming. The
server is being accessed with a fully qualified name
 '\\files.unx.csupomona.edu\user'.

In the configured share directory, I made a symbolic link as documented:

 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 35 Mar 10 16:26 henson -
 msdfs:zfs1.unx.csupomona.edu\henson

I'm pretty sure the Samba configuration itself is okay, accessing the share
with smbclient works correctly and appropriately follows the link.

With debugging enabled, I also see the following message logged:

 [2008/03/11 15:10:29, 5, pid=28793] smbd/msdfs.c:is_msdfs_link(337)
   is_msdfs_link: ./henson - msdfs:zfs1.unx.csupomona.edu\henson

When I try to access it from a Windows client though, I do see this in the
 debug log:

 [2008/03/11 15:16:19, 5, pid=28904]
 smbd/trans2.c:get_lanman2_dir_entry(1215)
get_lanman2_dir_entry: Masquerading msdfs link ./henson as a directory

I'm not sure that's normal, but seems odd. I'm not sure what all to attach
from the debug log, it is rather large. The following seems associated with
 that request though:

   size=86
   smb_com=0x32
   smb_rcls=0
   smb_reh=0
   smb_err=0
   smb_flg=24

   smb_vwv[14]=1 (0x1)

I think the following messages correspond to the error I am receiving from
 the client:

 [2008/03/11 15:16:26, 3, pid=28904]

I think these are the flags relevant to that transaction:

   smb_vwv[14]=5 (0x5)

Any ideas what's going on? In previous postings regarding this type of
problem, it sounds like the Windows client is somewhat nondeterministic in
whether or not it is willing to treat a given share as a DFS root?

Any suggestions for additional debugging data that might be provided to
 further isolate the issue?

 Thanks much for any assistance...

Did you reboot the XP box after setting the dfs link up on the linux server?

The linux server never existed as a non-dfs root, and the client had never
connected to it before. However, on general principle (being Windows) I
rebooted it anyway with no change. I also attempted to access it from my
notebook computer, which hadn't even been turned on since before the linux
server was built, with the same failure result.

As far as I can tell from my research, it just seems that there are some
fair number of variables that determine whether or not a Windows client
will consider a share a DFS root, and evidently I'm missing one of them
8-/.

Thanks...

One other question. Does the path /var/lib/samba/shares/user have any
files other then the dfs links?

While I did create various files/directories during testing, on my initial
test only the following link existed:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 35 Mar 10 16:26 henson -
msdfs:zfs1.unx.csupomona.edu\henson

I also cleaned up the remnants of my testing, leaving only the above link
again, and tried again from a fresh client, with the same failure.

If I pull up an actual Windows 2003 server running Dfs, and right-click on
the share, there is a DFS tab. Pulling up the samba server, there is no
such tab on the share properties. Also, the Windows server is identified as
Windows Server, whereas the samba server is identified as Windows NT 4.9
Server; I'm not sure if that makes a difference...

Thanks...

There should be one for your samba share as well. I have a dfs tab in

libreplace: fix samba4 build (by not setting global LIBS).

This corrects the earlier fix of the standalone build, by setting
LIBS to the desired value only in configure.ac but not in getifaddrs.m4.

Not that this changes the standalone build in that it adds these libs
undconditionally and not only if they are needed by the getifaddrs
