[Samba] can Xp join samba domain without root smbpasswd..?
I have a samba server for Win XP, 2000 and 98 clients. All machines joined the domain but I wonder if there is any way to skip the root&root_smb password when joining the domain with an XP or 2000 client. I have the ´add machine script´ to automatically create the machine account but I think is uncomfortable for the administrator to go to each computer and to give root account and samba password and only after that the machine to be actualy in that domain. I am looking for a solution for a school network, where computers are in 5 buildings. Giving root smb password to students is not a solution and neither for the network administrator to go to all those building... And of course I have to take into consideration laptops, students who may want sometimes to be on school domain. If anybody knows a solution... Pliz help. From what I read so far I didn´t find any. And another question, about printing from 98. I can install the printers I have on my samba server, it only takes 3 mouse clicks, but I´d like to use a script to automatically install printers, like rundll32 is for XP. I dond´t know if and what is the command... Thank you, Adina __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Re: [Samba] Win98 ==> Samba printing problem
I used cups and Adobe drivers. I downloaded the drivers from www.adobe.com, then a PostScript for HP (I have that kind of printer), instaled localy the driver on a win 98 machine, stored the files on the samba server in /usr/share/cups/drivers and after that cupaddsmb created the driver, pt it in print$ share, WIN40/0 directory. Hope this helps --- fredex <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Using SAmba 3.0.2 and Cups 1.1.17. > > How does one configure a W98 box to print to a samba > shared printer? > > Per my previous postings I can't figure it out, and > the methods I've > used on older Sambas don't work. > > I've been thru the lengthy discussion in the samba > with cups documentation, > which tells how to do it for NT or later, but not > 9x. > > I've posted the smb.conf before, won't put it here, > for brevity. > > I'd appreciate a clue. > > Thanks. > -- > Fred Smith -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] > - > The eyes of the Lord are > everywhere, > keeping watch on the wicked and > the good. > - Proverbs 15:3 (niv) > - > > ATTACHMENT part 1.2 application/pgp-signature > -- > To unsubscribe from this list go to the following > URL and read the > instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba __ Do you Yahoo!? [Samba] problems with rpcclient, adddriver
I have a problem using rpcclient with adddriver command. I want to upload the printer drivers on my server and clients (win xp and 98) to download them from print$ share. I tried first with windows printer driver - installed the printer locally, samba server took the files and deposited them in print$ share but the problem was when I wanted to actually install the driver on the server. Adddriver command creats the 0 directory (for win 98) but the result is: ´result was DOS code 0x0013´ and the driver is not created. I tried then with ADOBE drivers -stored the files in print$/WIN40 on my samba server and addprinter command returned the same error, ´result was DOS code 0x0013´. Google-ing gave 3 results, all 3 only asking for help, no answer... Does anyone have a clue on this? Thank you, Adina __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Re: [Samba] RE: CUPS - problems changing printing pref. on Win XP
Thank you for the info. I already upgraded samba to 3.0.4 version but I dont´t want to use cups again unless I have a hope that error wont come up again. Since the new cups win driver 6.0 will be released in a few weeks and I don´t have much time, could you please recommend me some other cups drivers? Because yes, I am using cups windows drivers 5.0rc3... I want to use ADOBE only for 98 clients, for XP and 2000 I hope is a better solution. [Samba] CUPS - problems changing printing pref. on Win XP
Hello Hope I can get some help on printing problems. I have samba 3.0.0-15 as a PDC and printer server for a small netwrok - Win98, XP and 2000. I installed printer drivers on my server using cups 1.1.20 (and ghostscript ESP 7.07) but I have a few problems with the clients. XP downloaded the drivers, I can print but I can´t change printing preferences on this machine. When I tried to see them I received an error: ´Function address 0x6a90450e caused a protection fault. (exception code 0xc005).Some or all property page(s) may not be displayed.´ I searched an answer to this problem but all I found was that I should delete printer and driver form XP client, reboot and install them again. But it didn´t work... For Win 2000 it´s even worse. I can´t install the driver because the same error message appers the moment I click on printer on samba share. Could anyone help me with an answer? [Samba] script to automatically install printers to win clients?
Hi I have a samba server 3.0.0-15 acting as a PDC on a Windows domain (98, XP and 2000). Is there a way to automatically install printers to windows clients when users log in? Maybe by running a logon script... Thank you in advance. __ Do you Yahoo!? Win a $20,000 Career Makeover at Yahoo! [Samba] samba printers
I have a domain - a samba server as a PDC (3.0.0-15 version) and a few computers running WinXP, WIN 2000 and WIN98. I try to make a script to automatically install the printers I have on the server to windows machine. The script has to be run when users log in. I read the samba HOWTO manual but I didn't find anything there. Does anybody have any idea about this? Thanks __ Do you Yahoo!? Win a $20,000 Career Makeover at Yahoo! RE: [Samba] Problem connecting XP to domain: "...specified domain either does not exist..."
Hello I have recently encountered yuor problem in my small network. I have samba server and onther windows machines. 98 and 2000 joined the domain without a problem but XP just refused to, although I made the registry modification. The problem is there a lot of differnt opinions about which registry should be modified and how... Use regedit on XP and try this: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters] "DisablePasswordChange"=dword: "maximumpasswordage"=dword:001e "requiresignorseal"=dword: "requirestrongkey"=dword: "sealsecurechannel"=dword:0001 "signsecurechannel"=dword:0001 "Update"="no" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System] "CompatibleRUPSecurity"=dword:0001 and also use the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) and enable "Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\User Profiles\Do not check for user ownership of Roaming Profile Folders". Hope it will work. And hope your root account on the samba server has is also a samba user. You need it to join the domain. --- Frode Lillerud <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi again, I'm trying to troubleshoot this, and here > is what I've found > so far.
