RE: [Samba] Group file ownership...
set this in your share configuration force group = users -Original Message- From: Brad [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, January 17, 2003 1:32 AM To: Sambauser mailing list Subject: [Samba] Group file ownership... We have a Red Hat 7.3 file server that serves about 30 Windows PCs via Samba 2.2.3a. I have one group called users that everyone is in but when a file is created by a PC, the group ownership on the created file is not users, but the same as the file owner name. Is there any way to force the group ownership of created files? Also, is there any way to force file ownersip to a given user on newly created files? RE: [Samba] general question about samba.
The packages are likely installed by default. You can findthe documentation at www.samba.org -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: Monday, January 13, 2003 7:01 AMTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: [Samba] general question about samba. Hi there, I'm fairly new to the linux community so excuse my ignorance. I've setup a test network with w2k serer and linux rh 8.0. I'm using kde and trying to configure samba for file sharing between both. Is samba already setup by default or do I need to download the packages? Is there any decent doc's for this type of setup? RE: [Samba] The use of Samba
you can use samba as a domain controller and print server too... -Original Message- From: Ted Gervais [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, January 10, 2003 7:45 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Samba] The use of Samba Now that I have Samba all set up and working well with all the machines I have - some linux, some Win98, some WinXP , what more can I do with Samba than just allow access to each of these machines. Right now I can sit at any machine and access any others. I can move files around I can play music files from any machine and I can print on any Printer that is in the network. RE: [Samba] Initial configuration help
First thing I notice is that your net use command doesn't point to any of the shares you have configured, but this shouldn't give you password problems, just an error. you probably already have apache running on port 80. RE: [Samba] questions from a newbie
Your trying to access the Linux machine from the Windows machine by using localhost? localhost generally points to the local machine. Try using the IP address instead. Also, make sure guest access is turned on for the share. -Original Message- From: Sommers, David (NIH/NIMH) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, December 26, 2002 3:17 PM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: [Samba] questions from a newbie I have several newbie questions - any help much appreciated: 1. I run a combination Windows 98 and XP home network - have been looking at Linux on two boxes at home - one desktop - one laptop - RH 7.3 2 I can get samba to run okay and in each of the two Win98SE machines can see them as localhost 3. I cannot access any resources on the Linux machines - Win98 asks for a password - \\localhost\IPC$ - I must be missing a step 4.
